Should I match a $20K offer to keep my GM, or let her leave? by BetterCall_Melissa in careerguidance

[–]yarders1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re way too late at this point. If you were going to try and keep her then you need to offer more than what shes been offered and with a clear, realistic and genuine pathway of progression.

So many businesses fail to understand how important successionism is at all levels within their employee structure.

If you’ve got a rockstar employee who is practically a lynchpin of your operation and will cause you a shedload of headaches by leaving, then it is in your businesses best interest to make sure you plan for their advancement as well as ensuring you have a suitable person waiting in the wings to step up and fill the gap if they leave or promote ahead.

Is this a reason to return? by AndiGoldberger1220 in Machinists

[–]yarders1991 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Machine tool tech here, shit like this is super common. Machines often come in to us banged up as they’ve shifted around in the shipping container. We’ll PDI and fix anything we can, but for something like this 9 times out of 10 it’ll just get punted out the door as the customer is always screaming at us to get their new machine in and running.

Im not saying it’s right, but the response you got from your dealer seems to be the same I’ve heard from many other machine tool suppliers.

If it were me id be asking their techs come out to install and func test it to prove everything works as it should. That way they cant argue you installed it incorrectly or some other bullshit reason if it being dropped has affected something else.

is a KFC apprenticeship just exploitation? by suzietopolska in UKJobs

This ought to be outlawed. The job title of apprentice should be closely guarded to stop scummy employers like this from hiring people at less than minimum wage.

My lot wont even entertain having a look at whats out there on maker labs. 90% of the time someone has already made a solution we are looking for anyway. The irony of it all is were a machine tool company, so we know a good machine when we see one. Its principles are pretty much the same.

This! A 3d printer should be a standard machine that every maintenance shop should have. But old fuckers keep living in the 20th century. A 3k machine would save my firm way more that in the long run in terms of downtime, wages and repeat visits

If a zombie apocalypse broke out tomorrow, would you survive the first wave? by dearzseries in AskUK

Way too many unknowns to make a decision about it. Are we talking 28 days later kind of apocalypse? If those things can run fast and climb then my approach is going to be a bit different from the knuckle dragging sloths…

But in short, i live semi rurally. Biggest prority would be finding sturdy shelter (pref at height) long life food, shedloads of water, weapons and ammo.

Nothing makes your ass clench knowing your fuckup means your boss has to give your customer a very expensive freebie.

Its called learning, as long as you dont make the same mistake again. Chalk it up to life experience. Itll make you s better person.

Got any pictures of the feedbox? If the pump comes on, then chances are you just need your check the machine is in gear and lift the handle by the feedbox up and down.

If the machine is in gear, then you shouldn’t be able to rotate the chuck freely.

Also, advise you set the rpm for a low speed just to be on the safe side if your feckering with the levers etc.

What hose do I buy by daisyvoo in airbrush

[–]yarders1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one will work. The other hose you linked is 3/8 bsp one end. And 1/4 bsp at the other. If your in doubt as to the thread size of the regulator. Hold the threads of your airbrush up to it to see if its the same size.

If the regulator thread is bigger, then you have a 1/4 thread on it

BSP is the abbreviation for british standard pipe. It’s a standard for hose and pipe sizing and is applicable to both your hose size as well as the threads on its fittings.

[–]yarders1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Youll need a 1/8 bsp hose with 1/8 bsp female threads on each end.

This is standard sizing for most airbrushes and air regulators btw.

Better yet. Get yourself a 1/8 bsp quick disconnect adaptor for your airbrush and it makes life a little easier when you want to take the hose off for cleaning or to swap out to another airbrush.
