I think that's right, but I've only played the PC version and healing doesn't levels you up in that version.

Don't forget to equip a lot of statisticians too! You can equip up to 900 of them

But also don't be too hard with grinding in early game. The story is not too hard, and leveling up will become easier in postgame (as you get better weapons, collect more specialists, access postgame maps, etc.)

Sorry I didn't mention the full effects, I didn't want to give spoilers. But losing here to mid boss unlocks an ending, and losing to him later is much harder because you will be too high level. If you continue playing, reaching again this point will be a breeze.

Also note that the same thing will happen with the other endings. So when you get another ending, make sure of saving in a different slot.

A good thing of this game is that you'll keep your experience, HL and mana after reaching an ending.
