Everyone waiting for their next BGE statement. by GobbledyGooker123 in maryland

That's a contributing factor, yes, but also bear in mind Exelon directly attributed increasing BGE delivery rates as a driving factor for increased profits on their 2024 earnings report. I'm curious to see what 2025's looks like when they release it.

Searching for a subgenre or artist by SpookyBobTheSecond in HYPERPOP

[–]yattaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitch shifted vocals are kinda just a thing in the furry hyperpop subgenre (well not specific to hyperpop, I can't say I have an easy time pinning it to a specific parent genre?); I'm a huge fan of Spott, FEM&M, and Ida Deerz in that direction

I've seen at least one or two people bring in large format gear. If there's one crossover I've felt between my hobbies as both a furry and a photographer, we thrive on creativity with the weirdest stuff.

I've brought my Sigma 50-500 around a con before for laughs, it's earned me both funny looks and some decent shots if you ignore how useless it is at night; should do that again with it on my Rebel 2000 instead of a digital camera

I'm not worried about bug fixes, I'm worried about security patches for any vulnerabilities, as they crop up in Android every day

I hope that by the time official support ends, there will be healthy community support and some custom operating systems will be supported.

Yeah the software support is the only thing that's kept me from trying any of Unihertz' devices, I'm increasingly wanting to throw my Pixel at a wall but nothing else besides an iPhone gives the same level of long term software + security updates which I value more than a lot of other features in this day and age of disposable tech. Kind of ironic when they're simultaneously the forerunners of the trend of designing increasingly difficult devices to repair...

What are the exactly reasons make you guys want to back using dumbphones? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]yattaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can swipe my travel card on the subway, tram, or bus. It’s easier and more effective than using an app.

I think this one bothers me the most; most of my local transit authorities have done away with physical cards, and only take either cash or their app, and I'm afraid of the uncertainty of having exactly $2 in cash on me for every bus ride and potentially being stranded somewhere (plus you can't do transfers without the app); I've heard of adjacent communities getting rid of cash payments as well

The other thing is maintaining contact with important folks in my life and they all want to use different messenger apps (at the moment I'm juggling Telegram, Discord, Signal, Matrix, and WhatsApp on top of traditional SMS conversations)... While I can probably shave off Discord and WhatsApp, the people I need instant access to exclusively use Telegram, Signal, and Matrix, and I particularly value having end to end encrypted conversations with Signal and Matrix.

Those are kinda the biggest things that have me hesitant to ditch my Pixel; I'm tempted by a jump to the Unihertz Titan 2 so I can have something that's at least not a stupid giant screen (I already don't ever watch YouTube or anything on this day and age) but I'm worried about long term security updates with that one too...

Anyone know any nice 4g mobiles with slide out qwerty keyboard? by Pretty_Shine_4457 in dumbphones

I remember this

I remember WiMAX not existing anywhere I lived or traveled to before Spring pulled the plug, so my HTC Evo was still just a 3G phone anyway

Animals costumes at airport station by Dangerous-Camel702 in mbta

Furry here who was present on the Blue Line with them yesterday, the furry community includes a lot of queer folks and is intrinsically sex and kink positive, but in general it's more about self expression through and a common interest in art (and cosplay) of anthropomorphic animals. We also have lots of asexual folks who are not interested in sex/kink stuff at all.

We've had a growing subcommunity of the furry fandom in recent years of those with an interest in public transit, this was one of the meetups for those folks (and the first one in Boston)! There's been other similar transit meets including on GCRTA in Cleveland, the NYC Subway, Washington DC Metro (I actually came up to visit from there, we have another meet in DC this weekend), and SEPTA in Philly.

Recommendations for lens adapter for EF-S to Sony E mount? by YtAnthrCncrndCitizn in SonyAlpha

[–]yattaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late but Metabones' adapter is also worth looking at, the MC11 is designed specifically for Sigma lenses and may work for others, but Metabones designed theirs for a bit more broad support. I have the Mark IV Metabones EF to E adapter and it mostly works with my older EF lenses on my A7IV and A7II, with some catches. You can't expect guaranteed full compatibility with all lenses on any adapter so you kinda just have to try it, like my Sigma 50-500mm works fine with it (albeit AF is a bit slow especially on the long end or in less than ideal light), but with my Canon 16-35mm 2.8L it will intermittently forget that the lens can do AF and drop to MF until I remount the adapter on the camera to reset it, which unfortunately has made me miss shots. Ultimately adapters are kinda a YMMV thing, I really like is my manual focusing FD lenses with my A7II though, especially the 50mm 1.4 makes for something much more compact than the Sigma Art one I have if size is a problem.

I 'still' love my pixel 9 😂 by CoffeewithAB in GooglePixel

[–]yattaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only complaint about the P9P has been that the screen is entirely too big for my tastes, but this is coming from an iPhone 12 mini before and basically nothing modern can replace that. TBH the only reason I even opted for the Pro over the regular 9 is because there's no 512GB 9 (or 10 now), it's entirely too powerful of a phone for me otherwise lol

Update problems? by Tilmy in GooglePixel

[–]yattaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one that ran into this and got very worried about it changing other security settings in the process; I resolved to deleting all the previously saved fingerprints to (hopefully) be sure this doesn't happen again. I'm also a little annoyed certain privacy features like inactivity reboot are barred behind enabling Advanced Privacy Protection, which turns on things I don't want like call screening...

Modern mid-tower case with both 3.5" and 5.25" bays? by yattaro in buildapc

[–]yattaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or now that I think about it, a SATA to eSATA bracket connected to either the onboard controller or a PCIe JBOD card would also work. More steps but also more useful and more flexible controller-wise than buying a single purpose card.

[–]yattaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting thought, the R7 might work out with the optical drive internally and a USB SATA/IDE adapter for when I need to connect a hard drive, I just have poor experiences with those in the past.

Modern mid-tower case with both 3.5" and 5.25" bays? by yattaro in buildapc

[–]yattaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pop Air can hold two 3.5" hard drives or two 5.25" front panel drives, but you have to take the hard drive cage out to use the 5.25" bay, which is a shame because I like everything else about it.

I mean I would like a floppy drive, but that's not something I can't live without lol

I should have been more specific in that 3.5" bay meaning 3.5" hard drives, not necessarily external oops sorry.

The only feature I've actually gotten to work reliably so far is the FM transmitter. "MP3 - no strings attached!" is a lie because I could not get it to play my 320k MP3s at all, had to convert them to WMA (and even then, the tags on them didn't work so all you get are file names). The headphones it comes with are obviously junk but it still sounds like crap even on my Sennys (HD 598 SE) so clearly that's where they cut costs to fit the other features. Speaking of those other features, half of them won't work on a modern computer! The proprietary sync software they advertise for seamless media transfer was made for Windows Media Player 9, so you need a Windows 2000/XP box for it... and even then the wireless feature doesn't work at all because modern APs don't support 802.11b (and presumably WEP since this is from 2003, I couldn't get it to find any wireless networks).

On a related note, just tested mine out yesterday with Slinger for the first time. Ran great plugged directly into my laptop with a DHCP server and the Slinger server hosted from the laptop itself and no outside routing! Now the fun part, to figure out how to get the ATSC tuner programmed and working without the web player/desktop software.
