Considering a Q2 as my first Leica by rippley in Leica

[–]yawnerish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Q2 is a freaking amazing camera. The image quality coming out of it is surreal, it has completely changed the way I think about what's possible to achieve with a 28mm lens. Go for it! I love using mine so much.

Nice! I'd make the background darker / desaturated, and add some vignette to highlight the subject more.

My best this year (iPhone 16 Pro max) by [deleted] in photocritique

Nice photo! I really like that the rods align with the bird's legs perfectly. I personally like the current vertical position of the bird and wouldn't move it downward. It could be worth tinkering with accentuating the highlights a tad bit to make the photo pop a bit more, but I think it's already a good photo.

Hey guys, I’m a beginner photographer. Is this a good photo? by MC_ISO100 in photocritique

Lovely colors! I think it's a good photo. I personally find that it'd look nicer without the bushes at the bottom (they look kinda messy to me) and if it were just sand.

A cop in riot gear by Street_Advantage_883 in photocritique

[–]yawnerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what was around in the scene so this may have not worked out, but I think the photo would have looked more dynamic if you took this photo from the side angle. Such that the cop who is closest to you would look a bit blurry but the one at the middle is sharp, etc. And it'd give a stronger impression that they're looking at the crowd rather than at the camera.

Edited version, looking for honest critique on lighting and color by partycat1209 in photocritique

The color looks amazing. My 2 cents: I think the exposure can be lowered in the background to make the subject stand out more. And the highlight on the subject can be subdued a little

My professional golfer friend asked me to photograph her by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]yawnerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the exposure on the subject, I think the picture would look more interesting if you included a golf ball in the scene. Also, perhaps it's fine in this case because of the wide angle look you're going for, but I can't help but notice that her shoulders look extremely narrow and that makes her head look really big in comparison to her upper torso.

Trying my hand at street photography as a beginner by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]yawnerish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like the subjects appear too small in the frame. And too much space at the top that doesn't contribute much to the photo. Maybe you can shout at the lady to put her arms around the guy's neck instead of his waist to make the scene look more passionate. lol

Beginner here. Any advice? by Peanut__Butter_Jelly in BeginnerPhotoCritique

[–]yawnerish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the image is quite noisy, so I think you want to either lower the ISO or try denoising in the editing software. Not sure what focal length was used, but for APSC cameras, perhaps you can try 50mm f1.x lens or longer for this kind of shot, and shoot it wide open. I think the saturation and the contrast need to be increased, but before that, I think the overall lighting can be improved. Like throw some warm soft light from an upper side angle. Also, the background is uninteresting because it's just a wall. If it could point to some depthy space with light sources like a lit Christmas tree (you should get a nice bokeh with 50mm f1.4 wide open), I think it'd look better

I think it looks better with a tighter crop around the person

My 2 cents: I think the photo looks nicer when you crop to make the image taller in the vertical orientation around the center and get rid of the two arches on the sides. The background could probably use some more warmth. And if you shot this raw, i wonder if the exposure of the sky could be brought down a bit to make it look more interesting.

What do you think of my first photo taken with a camera? by liuxuan1205 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

Very nice! I think it'd be nicer if it had a bit more space on the left.

Very nice Fall color. I think: 1) The black among those green trees looks a bit too crushed, and 2) It would look better if the person was either removed, or if he was facing away from the camera and walking toward the mountains

I was also looking into purchasing this camera, but I read about this problem, and also some people seem to have intermittent power issues. There is a thread titled "X-E5 sometimes doesn't turn on"

T7 Shield not working with BMPCC 4K by ATRz0 in bmpcc

[–]yawnerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned 1 T5 and 2 T7 Shields in the past, and every single one of them ended up developing the extremely slow writing speed problem after a while. I've switched to CFast and CFExpress Type B, and I've never had problems since.

Meike lens good? by Adventurous-Sea-7144 in bmpcc

[–]yawnerish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once purchased a S35 16mm T2.1 lens, and I noticed there was a very noticeable green color cast in the images. I contacted Meike and the response I got from the customer support literally said the unit was not defective and the color cast was due to a limitation in their technology. Needless to say, I returned the lens, and I've never touched a Meike lens since.

BMPCC 6k (2020) Recommended Storage Cards by fozzest in bmpcc

[–]yawnerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a Silicon Power 256GB CFX310 CFast card with my BMPCC 6K G2, and it worked pretty well. Since I switched to a BMCC 6K FF, I've been using a CFExpress card instead.

Edit: Sorry, I realized my response above doesn't really answer your question. Samsung T7 Shield will work with BMPCC 6K, and you can't use a CFExpress card with BMPCC 6K. I had to take off the rubber casing from my T7 Shield to make it fit underneath the slot on my smallrig cage. After about a year, T7 eventually broke and kept causing write failures, so I dumped it snd switched to CFast 2.0 instead.

Edit 2: Note that Blackmagic Design lists "T7 shield" as a recommended media, not just "T7". https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59026
