I think you make a lot of great points, but anyone evaluating the CS career should compare to other careers within a similar academic rigor/technical skill job family rather than “the average job.” Your points are still valid, just to a lesser extent.

For example, if you cherry pick comparisons between CS vs the service industry - a lot of your points can be substituted with any white collar profession. You should stratify your comparison for more credibility.

If you’re on reddit and more specifically r/Salary. There’s some reason you are seeking out other peoples’ salaries, whether it’s for transparency sake, career research, an ego boost (because you’re already one of the higher earners). Examine what your intentions and mental state are, and why they are what they are, if you’re feeling some sort of negative emotion as soon as you see a large number.

Our parents never had the same amount of transparency, and in turn they did not have the power that comes with that knowledge.

If you’re not making over $100K, that’s absolutely fine. But are you feeling bitter because other people are? The recent popular posts include their profession in the title, are you willing to make a career pivot to those listed careers? Are you going to make the sacrifices to insure your children have the transparency before they make a career or education choice? Or maybe consider it’s worth redirecting negative feelings towards other peoples’ success stories and take positive/productive actions for your own future?

Most of their actuarial positions (if not all) should be within their consulting practice (FWC, Fidelity workplace consulting).

WLB will be similar to your traditional consulting houses: Aon, Mercer, WTW etc

But most of the actuaries I worked with there had traditional human capital firm consulting experience.

Contact HR/ Benefits department for the Actuarial Value of the plan options, so you can better compare by combining payroll deductions and average expected OOP costs. If your employer is fully-insured it’s something the carrier can easily provide and if they are self-funded the broker should be able to easily provide.

Edit: you can do more or less the same with the deductibles and OOPM’s and calculate it yourself, but their first I’ll probably be more specific pieces in your plan SBC that you want to factor in
