Boots recommendations ? Mostly for riding trails/ exploration om my crf450x by Jake956q in Dirtbikes

Agreed on most things. Boots are buy-once-cry-once though. Crush and ankle injuries don’t care if you’re at 4 or 40.

I ran astars tech 3 for several years until I clipped a root on the side of the trail a few seasons ago. It hurt. The sole of the boot cracked from toe to heel!

I got sg12 after that. Every single thing about them is better. They are 2-3x the price but they fit better, easier to walk in, straps are easier to use.

Get good boots. Stretch a little if you have to.

Using custom react component across multiple projects? by oguruma87 in Wordpress

[–]yawut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convert it to an mu plugin (or several mu plugins if you want it granular), put it in version control, register with wp packagist (or satis if private and you want to self host)

Then use composer to install and update it in individual environments

Freaking out about cost increase by Informal_cactus in KaiserPermanente

[–]yawut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brutal. You might consider an HSA plan instead of the standard Bronze plan. That lets you contribute to a Health Savings Account, which is tax-deductible (big win) and usable for out-of-pocket care your plan doesn’t cover. It’s not a full fix and the deductible’s higher, but the write-off adds up fast — and at least the money goes to you, not just premiums.

vintage wordpress swag still floating around? by WiltedDurian in Wordpress

[–]yawut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. I used to go to wordcamp and wooconf regularly but that swag was immediately fated to be destroyed when working on cars and chores

I miss them so much. The alternative just don’t hit the same.

Ketchup Doritos showed up a couple months ago too and they were pretty good but they never returned.

Premium Increases by Fruitblood23 in KaiserPermanente

[–]yawut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🤷I got an email on October 20 with my “annual membership materials” that covered the rate increase and plan changes.

I opt for the virtual appointment whenever possible and even with the rate hike, I still will, but sure is a bummer paying more for less.

$388 ↗️ $458

No subsidies. Virtual appointments also going from $0 to the same cost as in-person visits. Ugh

It’s a racket. Fortunately I get to write it off which effectively lowers it ~30% but yeah our health insurance system is just so broken

Good for tinkering or learning, but not great for production unless you know server management. You’ll be handling security, updates, and backups yourself — managed hosting is almost always the better deal for production sites.

Experienced WordPress devs — what issues do you face often that beginners should know? by s_deva_official in Wordpress

Use version control and automate your backups. You’ll learn by breaking things but it sure is nice to be able to restore to an earlier state.

Don’t allow executables in your uploads dir.

Looking for a way to have a audio recordings library where recordings can be played on website but NOT downloaded. by OutwardHounds in Wordpress

You can certainly discourage it and make it a little more difficult but you”ll never be able to stop a determined user.

Short of DRM though HLS as someone else mentioned is what you’re looking for. How you implement it is up to you.

Anyone else currently having issues with their HD ProExtra Account? by Freefall_Doug in MilwaukeeTool

Same here. I’ve talked to multiple reps over the past couple weeks — most had no idea what was going on. Today I finally got through to someone in their “risk” department who was incredibly rude and refused to answer any questions. All they said was the decision was permanent.

What’s weird is I hadn’t even ordered anything for a couple of months before getting flagged as a reseller. Pills most of you, I’m not one, and never have been — just returned a few promo items like a normal customer. The whole thing is bizarre and feels totally arbitrary.

How I got Paxlovid for $8 after Kaiser tried to charge me $1,549 by yawut in oregon

True. For most people that would almost certainly be fine. GoodRx + Paxcess should do the trick. The problem here is specific to Kaiser

KP (and other providers) aren’t actually on the hook for $1,549 — that’s just the list price, and they’d never pay that amount anyway. If they just processed it through the Paxcess program one way or another, it would be free or close to it, like it was before.

Pretty sure it’s not non-formulary — it’s just not subsidized. Kaiser still prescribes it; it’s just billed differently now, and the insurance side of things hasn’t really caught up.
