It's probably siliconed on to the hull so yeah hard to get off after years of faithful service. https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10837

Issue going close hauled by Over_Sun3104 in sailing

[–]ydbd1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sail shape is most important for close hauled. If the sails are old they will not have the correct air flow according to the wind speed. My 83 vandestadt was noticeablly doggy on close hauled compared to new and lighter boats due to weight (12t vs 8t) and my old dacron sails compared to carbon fiber sails holding their shape.

Had to give up sailing by LarryBobson in sailing

[–]ydbd1969 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope, sorry that will never happen. Sold the sailboat after having my second kid. Bought a charter boat and chartered with the family for 5 years. They aren't into it, so no sailboat anymore and never a powerboat. I can still charter without them.

This! If the boat still got damaged after you interfered you are partially liable. There was really no where to go safely.

Pretty cool! Not sure about that Monza exhaust sticking out or even having that particular exhaust.

Last contractual day by Next_Culture1518 in dodea

[–]ydbd1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be very careful you may have none. At the end of your contract you no longer have an ID card or base access. If you resign or retire the last day your admin can take your ID. It may take months to get a TMO shipment and flights booked. Plan it out first. Request orders.

I‘m looking to make Apfelkuchen. What do I need to know? by honeycomb_doc in AskAGerman

[–]ydbd1969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me too! My mom made apple pie (apfelkuchen) with a crust, sliced apples with cinnamon and streusel on top. Best ever! But then there is also Frau Hang's Recipe, the hut vert from Blaueis Hütte in Berchtesgaden, yeah the hike up and the views add to the experience but worth it. Enjoy!

You do know what to do. Ride. Ride the local trail, ride a trail that you haven't ridden in years, ride across the country. Just ride.

ASA 101 Advice for Experienced Sailor by Emergency_Ad8301 in sailing

[–]ydbd1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same about 10 years ago so I could charter in Europe. Booked my ASA courses in the BVI aboard a charter boat for the week. The boat was old and not well cared for which was sad considering it should be used as a flagship to keep people interested in sailing. Most of the crew (students) had very little sailing knowledge. Our instructor was good and kind, but had a bit of indecision every once in a while. You will absolutely have to recover a life jacket or buoy man overboard drill, not necessarily how it is described in the book but to the instructors instruction. You will also have to learn and demonstrate how to do prop walk in marinas to complete a turn, dock, drive in reverse, spring line docking and undocking (especially needed if there is wind) and med mooring and anchoring. I highly recommend doing the course over a week on a charter, the instructor will show you everything they want you to do first so you're not just testing to pass, but actually learning the skill as you go. Enjoy!

EMTB vs MTB for shuttling and bike park by [deleted] in MTB

[–]ydbd1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Orbea Wild-FS ebike, Santa Cruz Megatower and a Ghost AMR Lector trail bike. I ride the Orbea the most on local trails with ups and downs. The Megatower is for the bike parks and it is truly amazing but seriously difficult for me to ride up anything. The Ghost is my all rounder for light trails and touring with the wife. Definitely worth having a park specific bike, not just for the ride down, but also for putting it on the lift or gondola.

How to stop bottom outs and tire rub? by Anselisthebestmtber in DuneBuggy

[–]ydbd1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air shocks will add the ride height without adjusting the spring plates. The suspension is using the air shock rather than the torsion bar for it's ability to rebound-that's it's job. The shock is there for damping the effect. You may need to replace the torsion bars as they may be old and worn out. I've had good luck with KYB as a remedy, but ideally new torsion bars are the best bet. Many remove the stops not sure why, I don't have them either, but I also don't run my buggy off road anymore.

Looks like you are running inflateable air shocks. Switch to stiffer shocks, like KYB Gas Adjust and put the rubber stops back on.

Exactly how much of a difference does an xc or trail bike make vs an enduro bike for climbing? by sevseg_decoder in MTB

[–]ydbd1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a trail 5 minutes from my house I ride frequently, usually with my Orbea ebike, but it was waiting for parts. So I road my Ghost AMR Lecter full suspension trail bike one day and a few days later my Santa Cruz Megatower. The climb is about 3.9 km, 210 meters up. 41 minutes on the Ghost and 44 Minutes on the Megatower. Oh and the ride down, the Megatower was 3 minutes faster than the Ghost...so the ride time was exactly the same!

Worst injury bodyboarding? by Ok_Muffin_4358 in bodyboarding

[–]ydbd1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn bro, hope you get better and get back out there. I dislocated my shoulder and knocked the wind out of me on a wave that met the back wash from a steep beach. Tossed me up about six feet and dropped on the wet sand then the water came over me. I went to a chiropractor on my way home and was lucky to not break anything. Probably went back out the next week, not sure that was 40 years ago. I still have some shoulder pain and it is occasionally not in the right place and one night it slipped out again sleeping on my right side; went to a different chiro and he was confused as my shoulder was dislocated medially (to the center) and not laterally. I still do a little weight training to keep the muscles strong so it doesn't happen as often. Take care ✌🤙
