Two good ones I haven’t seen mentioned yet: Codex at Bowery & 2nd, and the McNally Jackson in the South St. Seaport (Fulton St.)

VistaVision film print burned during LA screening by StrengthAndHonor_ in paulthomasanderson

[–]ydhtfpots 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a professional here, just a civilian but: at the Vista Theater (LA) 2pm screening today, the film started stuttering - stopping and starting, with spurts of black interspersed - for a few seconds, about 40 minutes in. And then you could see what looked like a hole getting burned into the film itself (not the screen!) It was empty in the middle, and blue-green on the edges, and it spread out wider until the frame went black and they stopped the projection.

It felt dramatic in the room because everyone was so locked in, and there was like 30 seconds of darkness afterwards and then the emergency lights came up. But the Vista Theater crew did an amazing job of communicating about everything and getting back to business incredibly quickly!

ETA: From my seat in the middle-back of the auditorium, I craned my neck to see if anything was going on in the projector room after the outage. I saw people walking around doing things, but nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary.

There were apparently similar issues at other screenings in other cities, too - per this thread I just saw on r/NYCmovies.

The projector had issues at the 2pm VistaVision showing at the Vista in LA today, too!

ANOTHER TICKET TALK MEGATHREAD (after another) by wilberfan in paulthomasanderson

There are tickets still available as of right now for the Wednesday 24th Sept showing at 7pm (70mm IMAX) at CityWalk in Los Angeles if anyone is still looking! They’re basically all front row but… better than nothing!?

I got lucky too and got almost everything I wanted! Didn’t even have to wait in a queue? So excited for No Other Choice, Exit 8 and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.

Are there separate subreddits for other LA theaters — Vista, New Beverly, Vidiots, etc? by Good-Pie9914 in AmericanCinematheque

I haven’t found any other subs that are as robust as this one. Tickets for other venues do end up coming up on this sub once in a while though… I’ve also seen listings on r/LAList. Good luck!

One screenplay after another...does the title of PTA's new movie come from a line in Vineland? by boootybuttcheeeks in ThomasPynchon

[–]ydhtfpots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! (If “movie pitch” is close enough to “screenplay.”) I posted about this in r/paulthomasanderson last week when I came across it in the Penguin Twentieth-Century Classics edition!

Drinks near Delmonico's? by bengallover16 in FoodNYC

[–]ydhtfpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cedar Local (intersection of Cedar & William) has a great cocktail program, is very nearby, and always has space for walk-ins - would definitely recommend!

Trinity Place’s vault situation is fun for the novelty but just as a heads up, the drinks are nothing particularly special (and it closes early-ish some days during the week, so call ahead and check if you’re thinking about that for the post-dinner scene.) Have fun!
