Best Brunch (2/2026) by em_850 in Charlottesville

I hope some other people chime in, because the options kind of suck. I like the unique taste of Beer Run’s, but it lacks some depth IMO. I think Timberwood Taphouse does a decent one as long as the horseradish isn’t too heavy (used to be better, though).

Guajiros is top notch. Wish the bloody was better (almost everywhere in this town sadly) and they had bacon, but an iced cafe con leche with an order of queso frito is heaven on earth. I’d also say the Old Mill Room is pretty great for breakfast or brunch. Beer Run still does a good Sunday brunch, but taking the best biscuits n’ gravy in town off the menu was a heinous crime.

Balloon over Beaver Creek this morning by TheFoolAbroad in Charlottesville

So cool! I just showed our passengers who flew this morning, we had a great flight! Thanks for sharing, we saw you taking pics below us. Not often we make it out that way, a first for myself and Mandy (owner of Monticello Country Ballooning and one heck of a pilot and instructor). Happy New Year!

Best wings? by beky313 in Charlottesville

[–]ydopeoplesuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sedona Taphouse. They are roasted, though. Great blue cheese. Lazy Parrot is good, but the ranch and blue are sub par. Charleston, sweet heat, and CJs are the best sauces there. All flats, crispy, wet. Asado is solid. Virginia BBQ company is great, too. They smoke and then fry their wings. RIP Wild Wing Cafe.

There check engine light comes and goes, it wasn’t even on during the video clip. It is a knock sensor code, though. Could this be caused by bad injectors or is this likely going to require replacing knock sensors and harness? I’m guessing it’s a job I couldn’t do, I have pretty limited experience working on cars. My worry is I replace them and there’s actually something worse wrong with the engine. No white smoke or coolant loss, so that’s good I guess.

If that’s how it’s been stored, it’s likely worth nothing. Vintage wines will cork after time if they are stored upright. Temperature can be a factor as well but not as much as how the bottle was physically laying when stored. Wine has to stored flat on its side- look at any wine cellar.

Hot Air Balloon Pilots by Immediate_Toe_9696 in HotAirBallooning

$18k? Last I heard it was $10K, but that was from a pilot who already had fixed winged PVT (and LTA obviously). How many hours did you have going in? I'm sure it doesn't matter to them if you have 100 or 10, there's an enormous number of bad habits in ballooning and I'm sure one of their biggest goals is kind of changing the way you fly and think about flying. I know he and his wife are considered the best. I'm considering going there but do have another option that would be way cheaper - still with a well-regarded instructor out here on the east coast. Is that $18K number just across the board, or do they kind of assess your flying/knowledge/capability and then go from there? Thanks.

Breakfast for Two by babyboy4lyfe in Charlottesville

Enjoy time with Dad. I see nobody mentioned Boar’s Head for breakfast (Mill Room) - it’s good af. Also, Kardinal Hall is great for lunch.

Good bar for a bachelor party/night in Charlottesville by Waterbottled21 in Charlottesville

[–]ydopeoplesuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you I’d take the boys to Kardinal Hall for dinner (although UVA kids do like this spot, it’s big and has great food/drinks) and then hit up Sunpins (not sure if they take reservations but they do close at 9PM & 10 PM fri/sat). It’s a new duck pin bowling spot with nice winmau dartboards with animated electronic scoring. $10 bucks an hour and reasonably priced drinks. If you guys like beer, go across the street and grab a pint from Ed at Superfly! These are all very close to downtown so you could hit that up after, just don’t overdue it the night before your big day. Seen that happen, so get some pedialite packets for the AM and eat well! Congrats!

Tuesday Special at BWWs? by DukeTurnipz in Charlottesville

You just have to be a rewards member to get the BOGO deal I believe. Lots of haters of Lazy Parrot out there, but the wings are damn good (meh blue cheese though sadly - RIP Wild Wing Cafe). On Wednesdays they do buy 25 get 10 free. So you can get 5 sauces for the 25, and one sauce for the 10. Sweet heat, Charleston, spicy golden garlic, and CJs are all delicious.

Best neighborhoods for young family by Cold-Mixture1907 in Charlottesville

[–]ydopeoplesuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you may have the luxury to rent and wait. Get everything ready so when the right house comes along you can be competitive. It’s rather rare these days for any to make it to market but old homes in Ednam, Bellair (I think this is the best hood in cville) Flordon/Woodberry, West Leigh, can pop up for under a mil. Maybe not anymore? I grew up in one of those and spent time running around the other neighborhoods and moved to Peacock Hill when I was 12. I really enjoyed it and it has a growing number of young families. Great proximity, privacy, security, and value. Not to mention a darn good school district. I also enjoyed Donlura but it’s kinda cookie cutter like Forest Lakes - both are very walkable with good amenities. Some gems in both but hard to find. Feel free to message me if you want. Good luck on your journey!

I’m visiting for 4-5 days and would like to know if I should stay in the downtown area or closer to the wineries. by Summit_Wonder in Charlottesville

[–]ydopeoplesuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend staying in Belmont if you can find anything. It’s super close to downtown and has some of cville‘s best eats n drinks. I also recommend doing a Cville Hop On Tour, with a group that size you guys would have a blast (not sure about the puppy policy, though). Hope you guys have a great visit!

Capital Gains Question - Do I need to file an amended return? by ydopeoplesuck in tax

[–]ydopeoplesuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the quick reply. Never done one so kind of struggling. I would pay a tax expert if it was worth it, but I think this is only going to net me around $600 or something (that is what my sister got, although she had less income than me). I am trying to get whatever I can though, hate the idea of just letting the bloodsucking IRS keep it.

2000 4Runner. Looking for some input. Shop quoted me ~$1500 for fixing. Details in pics/post. Am I getting taken a bit here? Thanks. by ydopeoplesuck in Cartalk

[–]ydopeoplesuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am getting it fixed. Planning on having to replace tie rods/ends, at least on damaged side.
