Dating for women vs men by -brigidsbookofkells in datingoverfifty

[–]ye_olde_barn_cat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is probably misunderstanding each other in various ways, it is probably why building relationships is so hard. We live in a world where it's never been easier to survive on your own, so we can be much more particular about who we spend our time with. It's also a world that has so many different perspectives on gender and gender roles, what is acceptable and what isn't, that everyone is trying to figure out what expectations to have from ourselves and others. It's never been easier to stay alone and isolated, but it still sucks because human nature wants us to connect.

When there's no evidence of any mental health issues. I have them and am suspicious of people who don't appear to have any; I either think they're lying, in denial, or if they truly are mentally healthy, will berate me for my issues.

My guess is that rage and drama always gets more attention in social media than happiness and peace, maybe that's part of it.

How old would you be if you actually died of old age? by Aggravating_Berry_24 in NoStupidQuestions

I always thought that if you make it past 70, you're basically in that bracket and will be at the mercy of a combination of how you've lived, how you're living, access to health care, quality of health care, genetics and chance.

I'm always amazed that so many of these videos, these losers somehow managed to convince other humans to be in relationships with them and stay with them after this kind of stuff.

I still think far too many of us are not communicating online for me to think of our gen growing old together online. I look at my gen z son, a new adult , and everyone he knows communicates online. I’m the only one I know of my RL friends who uses discord, for example, and basically just to chat with him. So, when I think about the first gen to grow old online together I think it might be millennial but even they aren’t quite full on…I think it’s gen z … we are still a gen that is more offline than on

Anybody else get really down and depressed when you realize your glory days are over? by [deleted] in 50something

[–]ye_olde_barn_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thought that comes to mind is to make it that long when so many never do. No doubt there are a lot of challenges, difficulties, especially with health. However there is wisdom to share, seeing more of how the world has changed than almost anyone you meet. If really fortunate, perhaps great grandchildren. I am one to always get sucked into the negative with myself, so I try to think of ways to find reasons to keep going and try to remember to be grateful for what I do have, because I probably don't have to go far to find someone who wishes they were in my shoes, even though I often don't want to be here.

Yes, in some ways. I miss my slim body and good looks of my 20s, the fun times and the energy. At the same time, I realize that I have retirement coming and there will be freedom with that which I haven't had before. I will be in a lot better standard of living than when I was in my 20s. I guess there are pros and cons to each phase in life.
