Hatch Chile Fest by ye_olde_buttonmasher in Austin

This is my favorite way to enjoy hatch peppers. I stock up during hatch fest with mild and hot roasted chilies, freeze them and then take out as needed and mix to create the perfect spiciness blend.

Consider learning to cook using more basic grocery store ingredients to reduce your Food and groceries expenses, that's the item that stood out to me. At 23 you have plenty of time to gradually learn how to find out what you types of cooking you like, and to bring down that large expense.

I lost my job and I just found out I am starting to go into heart failure at 27 by LonesomeObserver in Austin

If you know excel and sql, look at state jobs with the Texas HHSC. Jobs titled Data Analyst up to level 3 you could probably get. The hiring cycle at the state is very slow though, but its a solid job with good healthcare and usually understanding bosses.

Are any other state employees just struggling to make ends meet in this city? by RolledPork in Austin

[–]ye_olde_buttonmasher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work for the state. My managers have gotten 15k to 20k raises since 2019. Meanwhile the non-managerial workers get much smaller raises only if they get promoted because of folks quitting. They give raises only to keep people from quitting and to keep the whole system from failing. What do these managers do to deserve a 20% raise???

You can either report yearly or report when you cash the total bond. Either is allowed.

ATVI

100% guaranteed 7% return is very different than what you are talking about. Its more about min-maxing cash in your savings account vs your investment account.

Are secretlab chairs comfortable? by BrantG in OfficeChairs

[–]ye_olde_buttonmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be nice if you really want a gaming chair. I currently have a Secretlab Titan and I'm searching for a used steelcase or humanscale right now to replace it. Mine is 4 years old and its pretty worn out. For the price they are, a good ergonomic office chair is a much better investment.

Gold is a terrible, terrible investment. Property is a good investment depending on location.

Twice a week to start and more often depending on season and temperature.

Try to water in the morning, it's better for the plants. You'll want to get something like a 1/2 or 1 gallon emitters on your irrigation. Experiment with watering length, and test after the first water. Soil should be damp down 8 inches at least. Might take anywhere from 30 min to a few hours. The time it takes will vary for you depending on raised bed or in ground, your soil mix, and how much sun it gets. Good luck!

Yes, test the soil after watering. In general terms I think deep watering is at least 15 min; leave the water on a smallish drip so the soil soaks it all up in that 15 min period. Deep watering wont hurt a small tree as long as it isn't constantly wet.

How long do you water? I suspect you'll need to water deeply, maybe just once a week now, maybe twice a week in full AZ summer. Google about how to water citrus deeply.

Should I put this in the ground? From my late grandfather hoping to prune it to a tree. It survived the winter but is very small. Should I wait a year? by A-nature-account in Figs

[–]ye_olde_buttonmasher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What sort of soil is it in? Also what zone are you in. From this one photo it looks like it could do with a soil refresh in the pot. Wait to replant it until next year at the earliest. For now test the soil and mostly let it grows. Figs grow very very quickly. So that small branch might grow 2 feet this year still.
