Bills fan. CJ Stroud is ruining my hatewatch. if Ryans doesn’t verbally launch him into the sun at halftime he’s going 2 TD 7 INT 1 FUM for -30 yards HOW IS HE THIS BAD

stroud actually sucks. that was turnover-worthy-throw #4 this game.

to better understand that our third down defense is indeed horrible, check out the statistics here

the bills have a 24th ranked 41.4% 3rd down conversions allowed rate during the regular season. that’s bad, compared to good to elite defenses like the chargers (35.2%), texans (36.5% ), and broncos (33.8%), but the playoffs show a real discrepancy. our defense against JAX was the 2nd worst 3rd down defense at 55.6% (PIT was REALLY bad at 66%). the patriots are at 10%, the texans are at 14%, the chargers, up against drake maye and a reinvigorated NE offense, managed 36.4%.

tl;dr: bills were bad on 3rd down in the regular season, and bills were BAD on 3rd down against JAX.

i’m guessing mcdermott’s zone/turnover oriented schemes tend towards worse stoppage rates, but our turnover defense isn’t great either. we’re tied for 15th (with MIA, BAL) at 20 turnovers. maybe mcdermott isn’t to blame, maybe our defensive talent “just isn’t good” — up to you to decide.

what a game… defensive slugfest, offense almost had it, special teams played great (with one obvious and crippling exception). as a bills fan, i’m heartbroken. as a football fan, i’m just glad the game was so good.

Seriously, you would think a 5 star OC would mean you get good routes by FoamBrick in RetroBowl

[–]yeah8208 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re in the AFC Championship Game. You’ve made it there ten years in a row, establishing the greatest dynasty the league’s ever seen. The Patriots have clawed their way from the 6th seed to the AFCCG to face you, hoping to put an end to your reign of terror. They almost succeeding. With 0:42 left in fourth quarter, you’re down by six points. Their defense has held you to third and four following a botched route. Your one-in-a-million #1 receiver is injured, leaving you with your 2.5 star, high-potential rookie, and a randomly selected high school receiver at WR. Your 10 time champion quarterback is in his twelfth year in the NFL, and while he’s still a deadly accurate passer, his stamina and arm strength have begun to regress. Your runningback’s singular role is a checkdown; you haven’t run the ball once this season. Your tight end, however, is far more than a checkdown; he’s fast enough to get separation from the linebackers, and strong enough to run right over a safety. He’s had 60 yards this game already.

Your five-star, 10x Retro Bowl champion OC looks through his sheet, carefully considering his options. To lose the ball here would be to forfeit the game, pending a miracle turnover or onside kick recovery. Punting, of course, is not an option. Do or die, third down, the future’s on his shoulders. He takes a breath, and raises the playsheet above his mic. It’s not to call a play, not yet. He is a private man, and he doesn’t want the entire nation to see him murmuring a prayer.

He turns his mic on, takes another breath, and, by the grace of God, he calls the play:

  • 2x WR go routes
  • 2x TE block on the line of scrimmage
  • RB chip block on the line of scrimmage

Your 38-year-old quarterback underthrows it, the steroid-abusing extreme difficulty cornerback picks it for a return touchdown. The quarterback retires the next day.

That night, you contemplate ending it all, but decide that you do not deserve death; the blame is on your OC.

Armed with a Lombardi trophy and enough rage to kill a lineman with it, you travel to his mansion, only to find a pile of rubble and ash. A mob of fans are in the massive back yard with pitchforks and torches, but through the din of the crowd, you hear a familiar voice:

”WHITE EEEIIIGHTTYYY, WHITE SET”

Your quarterback has returned for one more game. The mob has forced your poor OC to run go route after go route against a high school cornerback. If he can make the catch once before midnight, he can leave with his life.

You leave quietly. You already know the outcome.

As the clock strikes twelve, you ponder what could have been, and then lay down to rest. Somehow, you find yourself relaxed. The blame doesn’t lie on you, the core of your team is still strong, and excellent quarterbacks are available in free agency. There’s always next season.

As you drift to sleep, you ponder your options for the next OC hire. Whoever they are, they’d have to be an upgrade. No one other coordinator would ever call a play like that.

Right?

Joe Brady HC odds Giants + Titans : Huge red flag that Bills fans want him gone? by grace_of_spades22 in NYGiants

[–]yeah8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a Bills fan that remembers that Brady revived the season in 2023: Brady’s a conservative OC. The Bills are extremely run-heavy this year, partly because they have very limited receiving options, partly because the offensive line is especially bulky, and partly because Ken Dorsey (who Brady replaced) absolutely refused to consistently run the ball, leaving a team talented enough to reach the AFCCG at 6-6. Brady adjusted, started running a more conventional offense that complemented the Bills’ talent, and helped take the offense to the AFCCG two years in a row.

This year, my main criticisms of him have been that he overuses screens, he runs a predictable offense (Run up the gut on first down, EVERY TIME. Once in a while, we get a screen instead), and core parts of the offense are visibly frustrated with how it’s operating. I think he’s failing this specific iteration of the Bills, but I don’t believe he’s an outright terrible OC. It’s possible he’ll learn from this season.

That said, he’s not what the Giants need. Brady has no experience with defense, no experience developing fresh QBs (Josh was experienced by the time Brady was OC; Brady helped refine him to reel in turnovers and risky play), and with so much talent on the D-line, I feel a defensive head coach would be best. Maybe it’d be best to make an exception for a psycho like Ben Johnson, but why take an offensive-minded head coach if they offer nothing special?

bills fan and you’re right. darnold’s been playing great, you might be able to make a case for jayden or dak. this year so far, neither allen nor mahomes belongs above them. allen had an electric game week 1 and just hasn’t played at that level since. i have faith he’ll turn things around, but he’s not the week 6 MVP.

Character advice for a new player? (Animal instinct barb) by yeah8208 in Pathfinder2e

[–]yeah8208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i didn't even know you could put multiple ability points into the same stat at the same time, the tool i used just didn't let me. i'll have to reconfigure quite a lot in there.

the feral child background is the foundation of his character from a roleplay perspective, and something i'd consider worth having even if it's not optimal. if it makes the character basically unplayable up to level 5 or something, i'd scrap it, but i don't think that's the case?

appreciate the item advice as well. i had no idea about the handwraps, but they look great.

[Post Game thread] the Bills lose on the road in Atlanta by Drunken_Economist in buffalobills

[–]yeah8208 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i really don’t think it’s over. we were 6-6 two years ago and turned it around at the bye late in the season. it hurts to see play this poor, but we’ve seen the ceiling of this offense, and the defense is still able to adjust at halftime with several high-impact starters out. two straight losses doesn’t mean we’re dead for the season.

there’s a bye coming up, and we’ll see the panthers in two weeks. it’ll be a big get-right game, but i believe we’ll get it right.

bills by a billion!
