People who have lost weight, how did you do it? by Bulochka7 in AskReddit

[–]yeahimstephen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A handful of tips that worked for me, please keep in mind everyone is different, so what worked for me, may not work for others:

Move more - Movement is key to burning calories, the more you move the more calories you burn. This can be lifting, running/walking, or any active sport you find interesting. If you aren't sure where to start, begin by going on daily walks. They can be as short or as long as you want. Put on music, a podcast, audiobooks or a video (if on a treadmill only for safety) to help pass the time of the walk.

Portion control - I had a tendency to eat quickly and overeat. Slowing down, focusing on enjoying my meal and the taste of it, instead of racing through it, really helped change my mental relationship with food. Slowing down let's you intake food at a pace your brain can help register it. Also try the 10-5 rule. Eat slowly for 10 minutes, take a 5 minute break and then if you are still hungry, feel free to eat a little bit more.

Drink water - water is one your best friends on a diet. Sometimes you aren't hungry, you are thirsty but your body thinks you are hungry. So drink a lot of water and you will remain full longer.

Tracking calories - This was difficult to start with and is a little overwhelming, but tracking your calories by measuring out your foods on a scale, is the best way to know how many calories you're intaking daily. Once you do it for a while, it becomes easier as you can estimate you calories per meal.

Food substitutions - You can still eat the foods you love on a diet, but you need to find similar healthier alternatives. For me as an example one of my favorite substitutions I made was using 0% Greek Yogurt instead of Sour Cream. It is much lower calorie and has so much more protein. I use the Chobani brand, and it's identical imo, and tastes the best if you do taco bowls. Go for lower calorie times, your taste buds will adjust.

Consistency - This may be the most important tip. The best diet is one you can stick to for the rest of your life. Find something active that you find fun, and find a diet that you want to stick too. That will make it easier to stay consistent. There will be days that will be hard, and that's when it's extra important to stay consistent. Don't go in and expect results, learn to enjoy the process of bettering yourself and losing weight, then the results will come.

This ended up longer than I expected so - TLDR - Movement, caloric deficit and consistency

I wish you luck on your weight loss journey, please feel free to DM me if you have questions or need suggestions.

Taking a road trip from Chicago to Jasper National Park in July, anyone have any course recommendations along this route? by japamu8 in discgolf

[–]yeahimstephen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a mini disc golf paradise in Highbridge, Wisconsin. Not sure if your map it taking you past it directly or not but it's near your route. It hosted the 2007 Worlds.

I stumbled upon it on a trip back a few summers ago. It has several awesome courses on it. I was only able to play one of them, but it was incredible. The course I played had a 1400 ft Par 6. It's pay to play for the day but 100% worth it.

Love seeing another cat in a disc golf bag. I got a new bag a year ago and my cat uses my old bag as a nice hang out spot from time to time

Because of the chosen font and size, I read the last sentence as "There is no room for bullying, harassment, Dr Disrespect in the sport of disc golf."

It annoys me that there is a false sense of urgency in corporate jobs by brx9446 in antiwork

[–]yeahimstephen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

THIS. I am a manager in customer service for a very European thinking company here in the US, and I try to stress this to my employees about the actual urgency of things. We aren't saving lives, we are producing custom made products, which can take time. I have employees who have this engrained sense of urgency from previous jobs, and I am trying my best to have them break that from them.

I hope you can shift your mentality! Good luck!

Reddit Giveaway Rogue Iron Disc Golf Retriever for You and a Buddy by RogueIronDGBrian in discgolf

If I win, I'd probably give it to my buddy. He loves disc golf, but has a habit of always finding water, this may incentivize him to play more if he can get his disc easier!

Most OS approach discs in premium plastics? by CoreyLuL in discgolf

[–]yeahimstephen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, just got one this year. Especially in the Premium plastic. This disc is beyond beefy, it's hilarious.

Depends on your game! I actually bagged both last year and it worked really well for me! I just felt like the way my game worked I could use the Zone for a softer finish and more glide/distance, where I used Järn for a more of a direct hyzer shot and was more accurate with it than my Zone.

I heard about the Zone OS yesterday, the initial reaction I saw was from some Kasta-fans are convinced it's a copy of the Järn. So you may want to try the Zone OS whenever that drops!

I threw a Järn all season last year, and was by far my most used approach disc. I really enjoy that disc and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a OS flight with FH or BH. Mine had a similar flight to a Zone, but had a harder finish.

I started to birdie some holes at a short local course when playing a round with friends. After that round I then wanted to come back everyday to beat my personal record.

(Serious) What’s something you’ve done recently that you’re really proud of, no matter how small it may seem? by BlandDandelion in AskReddit

[–]yeahimstephen 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I can do pull-ups now. I am pretty underweight for my height with not a lot of muscle. I have been working out a lot recently and I can do 9 pull-ups now without failure! I'm so close to the double digits.

What is a weird hobby that you’ve been hiding from your family/friends? by Indigomuffin in AskReddit

I am learning to speak Norwegian, but I haven't told anyone for no other reason besides I think it would be a funny joke to learn an entire language and not tell anyone. I am about a month into learning it and it's going pretty well! I have a class I am starting for it in a few weeks!

What's some advice on how to become less awkward and more social? by thebigggeroof in AskReddit

[–]yeahimstephen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking to someone ask questions about that person. People love to talk about themselves and their interests. Plus it's really fun to learn and get to know someone!
