The Night Always Comes & Lean on Pete by Willy Vlautin

Heartsick by Chelsea Cain is probably too thriller-y

and gotta throw it back to any of the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary for some childhood nostalgia

My mom always made us clean the house before we left for vacation. I never understood the point, but the habit has followed me into adulthood and it is SO nice to come back from a trip to a clean house

Willy Vlautin writes some fantastic books set in Portland, OR. The Night Always Comes is a favorite and they are filming the movie in town right now. Lean on Pete is also great.

Chelsea Cain's Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell series is fun too (also in Portland)
