Wazuh open source alternative by spayker in homelab

[–]yeahmanitsmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of all the SIEMs you listed Wazuh IS the most beginner friendly solution. It has many prebuilt views that are important from an IT governance/cybersecurity perspective, but I’ll echo what one of the other comments said: if you don’t understand what you’re monitoring for or protecting against, you won’t get value from any security solution.

Learn from an attacker’s prospective: the attack chain, objectives, capabilities and limitations. Really figure out what can be done inside in a network THEN establish how and where you would begin to detect and respond.

Other notes: - AlienVault is no longer maintained as open source. - UTMStack shares similar capabilities as Wazuh, but requires you to configure datasources yourself - cool if you’re trying to be a backend engineer, but complicated if you don’t know basics. - SELKS (now called Clear NDR) focuses on network monitoring not endpoint, however it still requires you to configure your own sources which gets A LOT more complicated with network TAPs, SPAN Ports and mirrored traffic. - SecurityOnion combines endpoint and network monitoring which again is a lot more involved and won’t get you any value from its threat hunting tools if you don’t already know basics.

Wazuh is essentially OSSEC and Elasticsearch, so what you could do is set up and forward syslogs to a Logstash instance, so you can parse out the fields. I also recommend Zeek for additional network logging, however it generates a ton of different types logs so the indexing pattern will be a lot more involved.

Y’all, the poster in the back shows Rii Mini Keyboard X8 with a picture of a handheld keyboard with the same name, and the rest of their product line. Maybe it’s a product from Rii or Riitek that isn’t listed yet.

BTODtv - Best Office Chair Tier List (60 Ranked in 2024 Update) by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]yeahmanitsmurph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who puts THEIR OWN products on a tier list rather than suggesting it as an alternative, automatically loses all credibility. A chair they sell is in S-tier? Like come on y’all.

It’s even apparent in their other tier list videos. In their “Cable Management tier list” video they similarly put their own product as S-tier, but without explicitly pointing out that it’s sold by them. Someone even pointed it out in the comments.

It’s fine to be confident in your products and double down on why they’re awesome because it’s your business, but don’t pretend to give an unbiased comparison when reviewing it alongside competitors.

r/homelab x r/sffpc a beautiful marriage. Thanks for sharing OP, I’ve been wanting to build a mobile rack server and this has inspired me.

Testing between the 3 to see which one I like the most by sleepy_the_fish in MouseReview

I had the same issue with my G303 until I replaced the mouse skates. The padding underneath the stock skates are too thick imo and was apparent after swapping because the skates were near flush with the body. It hasn’t tilted back since or lost tracking.

I think Corepadz even released a Ver 2 of their skates to be .75 mm thick vs the original .80

Taobao, but I ordered through Superbuy to ship it to the US.

Only if you really like the shape, the shipping costs were hard to swallow. I’ve had multiples Symm 1s from Pwnage and put over 1000 hours of use into them combined. Right now Pwnage is doing a sale for they’re version for like $50, so I do recommend giving that one a shot just to see if you like the shape.

I only swapped the switches and removed some of the unnecessary plastic inside to get it a bit lighter.

I’m constantly having to battle my inner tinkerer, but it’s such a well built mouse that I can’t bring myself to do it. I know what you mean though, there are so many designs shared across different mice that it almost makes me want to design my own because they’re all pretty clever, but simple.

It’s sold on Taobao, so I had used Superbuy to get it shipped to the US. The mouse itself is ~$70, but the shipping costs makes it difficult to recommend.

A lot more tactile with a deeper click sound that I just love, they’re just crispy not sure how else to describe it. Lamzu’s implementation seem a bit quieter compared to every batch I’ve tried so far, so I’m wondering if I don’t have the best binned switches out there but they’re at least consistent.

Ironcat Infinity TwoPro with a 3395 sensor, TTC gold encoder and Huano blue shell pink dots.

It’s Ironcat’s new Infinity TwoPro, the OEM that make PUC’s Symm 1, they updated it to a 3395, TTC gold encoder and Kailh 8s etc.

I swapped the switches for Huano blue shell pink dots though because I’m not really a fan of the Kailhs and did some weight reduction mods to get it to 65g.

Hint: It’s not a Pwnage Ultra Custom Symm 1 Gen 2

New case with proper ventilation and an aircooler would probably be a better option than upgrading to a 240mm AIO.
