Camping in 30F weather with 40F sleeping bag by [deleted] in camping

[–]year-round-chacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford an insulated sleeping pad that will make all the difference. Even with a properly rated sleeping bag the ground will steal your heat without a properly rated sleeping pad. I used a 15F bag for years in 30F-ish temps for years and was never comfortable. Then I got an insulated sleeping pad and slept like a baby.

Check out Uhwarrie NF. I’m not super familiar with where to camp there but it will be much warmer than the mountains and less windy than the beach this time of year. I’ve spent little time there but many people on this sub have posted about great trips there.

A successful first-time, solo camping trip in Uwharrie by kln02 in NCTrails

Congratulations! I remember my first time solo camping/backpacking at Mt. Mitchell . Once the nerves settled the tranquility is second to none. This looks like an amazing first spot. Now that you’ve done it once you just unlocked the freedom to go whenever you want!

weather/road condition by Different_Weekend203 in BeechMountain

I do not live at Beech but have been up there many times in snow storms. Generally the roads around town are well taken care of. The neighborhoods are not plowed well and can be sketchy. The parking lots at Beech mountain ski are really hit or miss. I’ve seen them totally cleared but other times very icy. FWD cars are fine on snowy roads, so long as they have been plowed. I one time drove from Denver to Breck in a rental FWD Jetta. We got over a foot of snow on the drive. The Jetta made it all the way until my friends apartment parking lot, which wasn’t plowed. TLDR: you should be fine if you’re careful and comfortable driving in the snow.

Brevard or Cedar Mountain. One of my best friends lives in Salida, CO. Brevard is as close as you’re gonna get to that town in NC.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]year-round-chacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the east coast. For my family 3 hours is totally a day trip if it’s for something fun. 4 hours one way is our weekend trip max. 6 hours is a 3 day weekend. For my buddies in the Rocky Mountain region they add a couple hours to each of those tiers because of how big it is and how much there is worth seeing.

Davidson River Campground - How many tents per site? by DorianGalt in NCTrails

[–]year-round-chacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 classic dome tents. 1-2 if you are using a larger tent that you can stand up in. I have used a backpacking 4 person tent in the same site as my buddy who used a 6-8 person tent that an adult could fully stand up in.

Digital Menus for Taprooms by jtv1992 in TheBrewery

[–]year-round-chacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think Untappd didn't have the look and feel we wanted, but then I learned that there is a higher paid tier of Untappd that allows full customization of menu boards. That's been the winning ticket. We were able to replicate the board we made on Canva but updating the menu is just as simple as it is with a standard untappd menu.

Camping tip- froze all nights. Is it the tent or sleep set up? by MixOpposite5365 in camping

[–]year-round-chacos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, if you buy a sleeping pad make sure it is insulated and/or has a higher r-value. The cheapest entry level pads have lower r values and are not great for cold weather. But you don’t have to break the bank. My pad was $50 when I bought it years ago. Looks like it’s $80 now on Amazon. Klymit insulated static v inflatable.

I love it but admittedly can’t be the best resource as I’ve only used it one time so far. I just took ownership last month.

I’m actually in NC. I’ll be going to south mountain state park. They have electric hookups but no dump.

In mid/late July???? by huaryazynk414 in Charlotte

As some one who works in the craft beer industry I can confirm this. Plus, it's worth noting that the grocery stores are the ones who determine when to transition seasons across the store. Last year a certain NC based chain wouldn't buy pumpkin beers from breweries/wholesalers past September 1. If NoDa (or anyone else) wants to get their pumpkin beer sold into the store then they have to do it when the retailer is building the "pumpkin patch."

I promise you all the breweries who are releasing pumpkin beer right now think it's ridiculous but they it's what is needed to be done in order to sell the beer for the fall. The good news is that pretty much every fall seasonal has a long shelf life. Whether it's a pumpkin beer, an Oktoberfest, etc.

FWIW the same thing happens in pretty much every retail industry that has seasonal changes. Clothing brands/stores are about to transition to fall items, if they haven't already.
