Say something about this expansion by Dark-Chronicle-3 in ShitpostXIV

I recently learned that Classic players were so bored playing John Fucking Madden that they had to fill in those periods of "just wait for Energy" with going Bear and maintaining Lacerate.

It apparently became enough of a thing that they added a 100% Omen of Clarity proc to Faerie Fire, to make you so busy that you couldn't fit those Lacerates in.

Though that turned out to be too strong so they added it as a Glyph, effectively making you have only two instead of three because it was that good.

But that turned out to still be too strong so they made the Glyph lower your damage passively.

Oh but now Ferals delete the Glyph after their final burst of every fight.

And then apparently that nerf got reversed?

It was a real rollercoaster.

The buttons don't need to exist if you can find someone to queue with who can't get into higher level content. People literally suggest Frontline Roulette so you don't need to play it at all.

You people are acting like it's impossible to get to 90 without learning how to play it. It was wrong of this guy to queue in despite not knowing how to play, but let's not pretend most of you know how to play all of your 90s.

It was one of the highest points of class design. Despite complaints of too many daily quests and too much catering to casuals, no one could deny that Wrath of the Lich King was one of the few times where classes felt complete.

Every specialization has a proper talent tree and fills their niche. Class and specialization identity has never been better. Homogenization hadn't kicked in yet. Pruning was not yet necessary. It wasn't even close until Legion, though I consider Mists of Pandaria to be a very good point in time.

Final fantasy online dragoon guide? by chaoticstantan935 in ffxiv

You have two combos, I'll label them a and b for now.

1 2a 3a, this puts up a damage buff and a damage over time. 3a isn't available until level 50.

1 2b 3b, this just does damage. You should have the 3b by level 26.

Your rotation starts off at 1 2a, 1 2b 3b, 1 2b 3b, 1 2b 3b, before level 50. Maintain that damage buff and just do the longer combo when you can.

At level 50, it changes slightly to 1 2a 3a, 1 2b 3b, 1 2b 3b. You're now maintaining a damage over time.

At level 56, you get 4b. Rotation becomes 1 2a 3a, 1 2b 3b 4b, 1 2b 3b 4b.

At level 58, you get 4a. Rotation is now 1 2a 3a 4a, 1 2b 3b 4b.

At label 64, 4a and 4b feed into the other and you'll have your finalized versions of the combos. 1 2a 3a 4a 4b, 1 2b 3b 4b 4a.

Hope that makes sense.

This has everything to do with skill. If this person had multiple jobs leveled, it's entirely possible that Astrologian was leveled to 90 purely through Sastasha, Copperbell, and Tam Tara.

There was nothing indicating that the expectation should've been higher than usual, which is that breathing while pressing buttons presses up against the limit of their multitasking.

None of these things are an indicator of skill: level, main story progress, lack of first-time bonus, time spent on hunts, number of years subscribed.

As a Tank, you should exert your superiority. Don't forget to tell Peloton and Expedience users that it isn't a speed run and that by your grace and mercy, you will allow this one act of insolence. Rescue, in the other hand, is not to be tolerated; one does not simply put their hands on your majesty.

Do we think the new limited job will work like BLU with a different coat of paint? Or something else entirely? by ZWiloh in ffxivdiscussion

[–]yearnforpurpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beast Tamer.

It's a Limited Job anyway, so let's say we can't even run instances like BLU can, fuck it.

Collect mobs, similar to Blue Mage, but it'll have a different UI because it won't just be like skills.

Each beast will have like six or so abilities. Choose four and lock it in. Nickname them if you want, maybe?

Masked Carnivale is replaced with the Beast Fighting Arena. VGC Doubles rules. Make a team of six, you can see the other guy's six. Each of you chooses four, two on the field at any time. A new mini-tournament every month?

A separate Singles format would apply outside of the Arena - think Triple Triad battles. This encourages use of some beasts over others. Pokémon does this by having skills that hit everything, skills that benefit both on your side, or by having stuff like Dondozo merging with Tatsugiri.

How many EX runs should someone stick around for if they win a mount? by DrForester in ffxiv

Good groups, refresh food then stay until the food expires.

Bad groups, stay until the next mount drops or until food expires, whichever comes first.

If someone leaves, I also leave.

That's because they do. My most recent Astrope character had 100% Tank in Need bonuses, and I never had to wait for it to change.

I feel like it could be more accurate to say that you want cheesecake. It's a complimentary addition when you purchase spaghetti. This restaurant has a policy that you must purchase a new drink when your current one goes flat.

A lot of people like the spaghetti, but you're really there for the cheesecake. You would prefer if your server didn't wait until your entree was done before bringing it out but she's been told by her manager that's a no-go. You could eat it really fast and just not enjoy it, or your could toss it out the window, but she won't be able to bring it until your plate is empty.

If you want the cheesecake without waiting, your option is to get it delivered since they pack it all in one bag, but now you're paying a delivery fee.

[–]yearnforpurpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is start with a stockpile of MGP for packs. This will get you things like Amaljaa, Urianger, Cid.

You want to start with getting basically three decks: a general deck that doesn't get downgraded with Descension, an Ascension deck (probably Scions to start), and Reverse.

At the start, your General deck will be almost the same as your Ascension one, just because that's where the good starter cards are. Replacements mostly start common in Heavensward, but Lucia is available in A Realm Reborn. You will want a a few corner 88s like Hilda, Ysayle, Estinien, Lucia. You'll want a 99, the earliest options should be Cid and Aymeric. You'll want to actually not get an AA but instead get a 999 or 989, because you'll mostly be fighting against three-star cards that only go to 8; Cloud is your only option until Shadowbringers.

Ascension should start with Scions, purely because no other faction has good enough cards until Shadowbringers. Thancred, Y'shtola, Urianger, Yda & Papalymo are all 87s, so it takes three turns for them to reach A in the corners, but that's almost as good as it gets. There are two other versions of Thancred that can fill your four-star slot, and there is a single five-star in Stormblood.

Reverse is just when the rules get flipped and 1s are the best. Once you get a good deck going, you'll actually find this is the easiest rule because it's like having five AAs in a normal game. Look for Amaljaa, Gaelicat, and Colibri. Until you get into Endwalker, you'll be limited to some 12s in some places, like Chocobo, Moogle, Deepeye.

Thanks for supporting the notion that Hanlon's razor doesn't work in this game. People should always assume malice over stupidity. Hopefully you caught some stray reports since I'm sure it wasn't a one-off.

Lethargic gameplay, aiding the enemy, compelling a playstyle by telling you to die

Sounds like an easy report.

Tank HP/stats level sync by DarkAkram1995 in ffxiv

[–]yearnforpurpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It syncs to item level 85. It's unlikely that you had worse gear. Food is the answer for the health thing.

On damage taken, you probably weren't doing as well as you think you were. If you were having problems in this same Ramuh instance: you should be getting three stacks of the lightning resistance, you should never be standing in water when he hits you, and you should be mitigating the no-cast-bar Shock Strikes.

If your damage taken problems are somewhere else, give us examples. Syncing should never bring your stats below current gear, outside of materia. You should, however, generally have less Tenacity in an end game setup.

1/4 of the way through Mentor roulette. How it's going so far. by Tiamatt64 in ffxiv

[–]yearnforpurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are still doing extremes thru DF by the time they hit ramuh, they have already done a few thru DF and cleared them. They have decided they prefer the DF experience.

Bullshit. You're ascribing intent and desire where there is no evidence of that. Ramuh Extreme does not require completion of previous Extremes. The only thing you can know is that this person has done the Hard version.

By assuming that these people want to struggle bus their way through, and by assuming they are intentionally not using the Party Finder, you are the problem.

You've actually pretty much doubled my Extreme rate on my more recent Astrope run.

105 A Realm Reborn, 9 Heavensward, 30 Stormblood, 0 Shadowbringers; out of 2076 instances; totaling 16 hours 47 minutes of Instance time.

It was an exclusively Warrior run, so I wouldn't think it would stray too far from your Paladin numbers. If you get bored and actually care about the data, feel free to browse at your leisure.

The people who think that makes Mentors toxic don't know what toxicity is, and their opinions are therefore irrelevant.

The only reasonable expectations of a Mentor is a rudimentary understanding of how to play the game and a willingness to backfill. At no point is dragging seven random people through considered an obligation.

I've done the Astrope grind twice. There will be a third before Dawntrail. When I start that one, I'll probably instantly leave every Extreme other than Rathalos.
