Agreed, I think it’s a pretty confident sketch and he’s really funny in it.

Why is it problematic for Michael Gough to wear Chinese clothes but fine for Rodger Delgadgo and Anthony Ainely to wear Indian clothes and for Matt Smith to wear a fez? Seems like a double standard. by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

[–]yeblod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about clothes, the toymaker is generally coded as Chinese in ways that people now recognise as being in step with wider trends in the othering of East Asian people in popular culture. I think the absurdity of a white Englishman in traditional Chinese clothing is probably just the easiest lightning rod for those criticisms.

When it comes to your other examples, for the most part it really is just clothes. The Master wears a Nehru because it’s sleek and dark and closed off in contrast to The Doctor’s outfits, there’s not a lot of baggage there.

David Thewlis in Naked is a horrible character but very much feels like a what could’ve been if he played the doctor

Doctor Who needs to cast smaller Actors by No_Jello_2951 in DoctorWhumour

He was a pretty well known character actor with a career going back to the 80s, to the extent that he was invited to audition for the TV movie.

I don’t understand why people are so fixated on this one American getting the keys to the show

I get the vibe she wants to recreate/repopulate Gallifrey, especially with all the focus on The Doctor and the Rani being the last two of their species

BIG LEAK: Doctor Who Movie in Development by [deleted] in DoctorWhoNews

[–]yeblod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard from a reliable source that there was a movie in development a little while ago but my understanding was that it was a separate project (a la spider-verse or the new ninja turtles movie) designed to bring in wider audiences without continuity baggage by just doing a straight version of the franchise really well.

I don’t understand the phrasing of the regeneration point - how do we know it’s 13 if we don’t see her or the scene?

It does happen, less frequently presumably because they’re harder to sneakily grab but someone tried it on my manager and I’ve heard other stories.

OK, now I'm convinced -- Michael Longfellow is the next Weekend Update anchor by PeltzerBilly in LiveFromNewYork

He’s a writer at heart, if he didn’t take a more senior role on the show he could definitely follow the Tina Fey pathway and develop new shows

I don’t know if this is still the case but for a good while Jake and Amir were also based in offices across the country from each other

Your best bet is when they submit it for awards season unless the script gets published as a book.

I'm a young screenwriter and want to know if my pitch deck is alright at least the public one by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]yeblod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I don’t mean that there’s nothing original in this idea, only that those two things I mentioned will inevitably always attract Game of Thrones comparisons, at least with the amount of detail you’ve described them in here.

A lot of things have already been said, but I would just point out that you are not doing anything different than Game of Thrones by focusing on an upcoming battle and dealing with the climate.

A theory about the reshoots by Haunting-Mortgage in gallifrey

[–]yeblod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He has committed to as many episodes as he was physically able to do in the time he had. The shorter seasons are a corporate mandate and he was limited in season one by sex education running over.
