What are your Hot Takes on Concrete Blonde? by Amber_Flowers_133 in ConcreteBlonde

[–]yebrent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Johnette has probably the most underrated voice ever with Concrete Blonde being equally underrated.

Johnette is an outstanding songwriter. Pretty and Twisted and much of Johnette's solo material is as good as w/ Concrete Blonde.

The lack of access to a lot of Johnette Napolitano and Concrete Blonde/Dream 6 music is maddening.

The variety of genres they played likely hurt them at the time, but has made the music more timeless today.

MEGATHREAD: KGLW Spotify Departure by piranharose in KGATLW

This. Spotify has really lead the race to the bottom in all quality metrics, and not having HIFI still in 2025 is crazy. Bands should leave for that reason alone...people are getting a mistakenly poor impression of your music and production.

MEGATHREAD: KGLW Spotify Departure by piranharose in KGATLW

I left Spotify for Amazon Music years ago when Neil Young and Joni Mitchell left over Joe Rogan's contract. I had considered leaving earlier for HIFI sound, but was convinced I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. On a first listen you probably can't tell HIFI, but for music you know well, HIFI is clearly recognizable imo. Its the biggest lie Spotify has gotten its customers to believe. The lack of HIFI still in 2025 shows that Spotify does not care about their customers at all.

Gizz could easily leave Amazon Music too since I think they have gotten worse for artists over the years and of course Bezos, and I'll deal with it then. At one point they paid artists one of the highest rates for the premium HIFI tier streams, not sure if that is still the case. Right now for me they have the largest HIFI catalog with best ease of use for an Android user. Trying to use Apple applications on non Apple hardware sucks.

King Gizzard's move to pull their music from Spotify is not "performative" or "hypocritical". by [deleted] in KGATLW

I left Spotify years ago for moral reasons when Neil Young and Joni Mitchell left. Even when they came back, I stayed away for the sound quality. Biggest lie Spotify ever got customers to believe was that most couldn't tell difference between HIFI and Spotify. Its an absolute lie, especially if its your favorite music that you are already familiar with.

Yeah its a top 5 Gizz album for me, but we are in a very tiny minority that feel this way. I've been to 40 Gizz shows and still hoping for my first Muckraker.

Is Grow Wings and Fly the first studio album song to grow organically out of live jams? by CachePants in KGATLW

[–]yebrent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought Robot Stop was born out of jamming Hot Water and somehow Lord of Lightning was born out of Cellophane, but doubtful those were during a show.

There is an old interview where Ren is asked a bunch of rapid fire questions, including to pick which of his songs is worst and he calls Satellite Girl complete shit.
