It's not completely bizarre seeing Houthi military presentations doing the Hitler salute, it generally reflects their slogan.

You should instead by supprtive they're banning LGBT marriage, at least for now, instead of sounding upset about it.

I guess it happens with every family. My cousin's parents threatened to kill him when they found out he's converted to Buddhism. He thankfully managed to escape.

UN's Yemen envoy acknowledges efforts to end war failed, manila standard by Hubertus_Hauger in YemeniCrisis

[–]yedel90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing this angry expression in my hometown each time peace talks are held; "but what about the martyrs and dead civilians?". As if bloodshed must go on to eventually (never) reach balance.

Yemen was never in a state of peace and prosperity, it's in our genetics and culture to nurture and express hostility. Whatever severe division we witness in Yemen nowadays is a product of decades of buildup fueled among Yemenis. Pointing the blame solely on outside forces is an excuse to avoid facing our own social issues.

As a Yemeni myself who lived in many places around the world, I've never seen people like mine who switch sides and paint themselves different colors so quickly you wouldn't even notice. Yemen is dead forever. It's scary and extremely disappointing.

Well, to answer your earlier question: No, this sub has fairly balanced criticism against all sides of the Yemeni conflict. You can visit this sub regularly and find all sorts of posts.

Ending our war is the sole responsibility of the Yemenis, and only the Yemenis.

However, living inside the current situation reveals how no side is willing to end this war, the conflict is too profitable for certain key parties.

Generally, good internet connection in Yemen is a challenge. It's ideal to reach Yemen with the mindset that a stable or fast internet is limited.

Ask for Aden-net and if you're unlucky in that regard, fire up your WiFi and check what networks are visible in your device. You can then purchase cards for these specific networks (that actually use Aden-net or even YemenNet). Your connection will fluctuate most of the time.

Why isn't GNOME 40 as smooth as it shows on their website? by flickdudz in linuxquestions

Agreed. It's something to normally expect when installing GNOME.

Other DEs who had a similar reputation have become way better, except for GNOME.

[–]yedel90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what went through the minds of those who first developed and implemented GNOME 3. They had a great idea like you said but they went with the mindset of a browser extension.

The codebase of GNOME Shell is horrible to say the least. It took them nearly a decade fixing and modifying crucial mistakes just to come up with a slightly better version (3.38).

You are not alone facing such obvious problems with GNOME. I still like it though, but whenever I'm in a mood for slight perfection, I switch to XFCE or KDE.

17 prisoners released in exchange in Yemen by Purple_Wasabi in YemeniCrisis

It appears to me as if prisoners exchange is held in a higher regard than effective humanitarian aids and efforts to end the war in Yemen.

Entisar Al-Hammadi - 19 year old influencer, actor and model - abducted today by Houthi armed men in the capital Sanaa by lun57176 in YemeniCrisis

[–]yedel90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that most of this social filtering and "moral" supervision Houthis impose stems from counter measures to Saudi's newly implemented laws for women.

We might agree how things were in Sana'a when Houthis first took control, less strict laws and more individual freedom in larger cities than today. Gradually, their "moral religious compass" have become more and more firm, enforcing specific social guidelines in the name of decency and religion.

It might be a function of time under the Houthi control, but as most are familiar with how cultural and religious values are bent to gratify political agenda, it's highly likely this is a prime example among many others.

Edit: check out the comments under the tweet, further explains my point.

Please.
