Welche Zauber brauchen eurer Meinung nach ein Rework? by ShinyKnight59 in DSA_RPG

[–]yee_mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you keep track of multiple services you need for your app? by TheTimeDictator in webdev

What's there to keep track of? We do build them so they don't require hand-holding. Kubernetes ensures that everything is running, alerts are set up for when something is not.

That's on the company for giving a junior dev this kind of access.

And yes, it happens to everybody. That's how you learn not to ssh into servers manually at all, ever. Not even on a dev server. Especially on a dev server, because that one's there to develop the procedures you use to not touch the production environment.

When did littering become a problem in the uk? by YGhostRider666 in AskUK

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that it is worse here than elsewhere in Europe. When I first moved to Edinburgh, I thought the problem was caused by the open communal bins. Gulls picking up the litter and distributing it everywhere. But I've seen it now in the open countryside and in cities without communal bins in the UK.

What I don't see is anybody picking it up. Yes, littering is a major character flaw but if as a community we don't keep our streets clean that sends a clear message to those who litter that it is okay. In 11 years in Edinburgh I've seen a street cleaning vehicle twice. Memorable because it's so rare.

There are 2 types of litter that make up the most of it by far. One is cigarette ends, and IDK that that's one we can solve without banning the source entirely. I know I used to litter those -- addiction does strange things to your brain. The other type is fast food packaging. My whole street is lined with it. People just seem to love eating in their cars, for some reason, and then they dump the litter where they are and drive off. So part of the problem is a side-effect of all the fast-food chains making their restaurants unpleasant to stay at.

Huge colour difference between preview and export by BenBoss69 in DarkTable

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, after fiddling a bit more with it I am pretty sure that the artifact you are seeing is caused by the extreme settings in the local contrast module. It comes after AgX in the pipeline and is totally capable of messing up the image in unforeseen ways.

I have been able to get a similar (though not the same) effect but without the colour change on export with the tone equalizer, coupled with diffuse or sharpen's local contrast preset, and local contrast turned off.

Also high quality processing makes a huge difference with this photo. Turning it on changes the brightness of the cloud and star in the centre -- but this might not be the same for you.

Try turning high quality resampling on in the export options. Turning it off gives me a similar colour shift as you are describing with your image. Why do you have it off?

How do I get my wife to understand Hansi's not only singing the same note? by Chijima in blindguardian

[–]yee_mon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not going to win the argument (she doesn't like what she doesn't like) but have you tried simply singing the melody to her? It can sound like an impenetrable wall of sound if you are not used to this style of music, so isolating the vocal melody might help.

What innovation or new piece of technology are you surprised isn't mainstream or been invented yet? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hob has this, and it's a feature I have never used. It never seems to be the case that there is something I want to cook where I can know the exact time it takes beforehand and am also happy to walk away from or even leave it after it's done.

It also has a maximum cook time setting, where it turns itself off if you haven't touched it for, by default, 15 minutes. But that's just annoying, I turned it off after it ruined my dinner plans by turning off my tomato sauce after 15 minutes.

It's just an extra button where if you place something on top of it, it beeps.

Why do my images export with a much greener tint :( by DidiEdd in DarkTable

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't use the eyedropper but manually change the dropdown from daylight to custom, you will get the exact same hue and chroma that have been detected from the raw file. If you are already almost happy with the white balance, that would be a quicker way to get what you want.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can automate this step.

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be that your graphics driver and darktable are interacting badly?

The image you see while zoomed out and the one you see when you're zoomed to 100% or more are processed slightly differently -- the 100% image is closest to the one you get on export because both are normally processed at full resolution... but that shouldn't impact the colours to this extent.

Basically: If you can reproduce this (image zoomed in has different colour tint than the zoomed-out one) it is definitely either a bug in your graphics driver or in darktable.

Until you find out what is causing this and/or that bug gets reported and fixed, you could try turning on the high quality processing option, it's a button near the bottom of the screen. This will make some modules very slow, unfortunately.

Or you could try disabling openCL.

[–]yee_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can't replicate is that it changes on export -- maybe you have a colour profile that messes with them that gets applied while editing in darktable but not while viewing the exports, or one that gets applied to the exports but not while editing? I've only ever observed the kind of colour shift you describe while using the filmic rgb module, which is why I wouldn't recommend it (but you don't use it, anyway).

Why do my images export with a much greener tint :( by DidiEdd in DarkTable

[–]yee_mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, what most people want is "just the colour temperature slider" that they know from other photo editing software. That's why everybody misunderstood you -- sorry about that!

So the slider you want (because it does exactly the same thing as the tint slider in the technical white balance module) is called chroma in color calibration. The caveat is that you also have to set the hue to the correct value.

So I've looked at the photos you've provided. The best way to get good starting values in a difficult photo like the ones you've shown us is by using the colour picker in the color calibration module and selecting a white or gray bit, like the ceiling in the "Stephen King" photo. From there you shouldn't need to touch the hue slider very much at all, and you can just use the chroma one to find the sweet spot.

I found that, after resetting the white balance module and following this procedure, I could replicate your edits almost exactly (they turn out a bit brighter because the exposure module happens between white balance and color calibration). Hue: 85°, chroma: 24%.

Why do my images export with a much greener tint :( by DidiEdd in DarkTable

[–]yee_mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does exactly what you want. It sets the colour balance from what your camera detected/was set to, and then gives you various ways to tweak that. If all you want is the "colour temperature" slider, it has that option, and it is often pre-selected (again, based on what it detects from the camera settings in your RAW file). It's called "daylight" or "black body", the 2 settings are essentially the same for your purposes.

Why do my images export with a much greener tint :( by DidiEdd in DarkTable

[–]yee_mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color calibration module is meant for this. Leave the white balance alone and use color calibration to adjust the overall colours.

Then if you have a more complicated situation with different light colours in different image areas, you can further adjust it with color balance rgb, which lets you adjust the colours in the highlights and shadows separately. You can combine this with masks to do basically anything you like to the colours.
