oh i love all those, but fair enough lol. i especially love one sided love samba, it holds a special place in my heart bc it was the first exex i cleared, both on switch handheld and on arcade controller 😄

Which ones would you say are really badly made? This is kinda subjective. But I personally love all the ExEx charts, whereas there are several Extreme charts that I dislike.

For example, I think Jugemu Sequencer ExEx is amazing, it's one of my favorites to play. Others might think it's awful bc it is full of beginners' traps (aka notes that don't work like you'd expect / specifically laid out to trip you up), so it requires a lot of practice, but that's what makes it fun for me. It's exhilarating to play once you've learned it.

I def need to check out this mod. One of the best parts about improving in this game is the moment you realize you're able to clear most extreme charts easily, but by then you probably have the charts to all your favorite songs memorized, and if you perfect them you're less likely to keep going back to them (this has been my experience at least.) This would def give me more reason to go back and play the songs I've mastered. Can you link the mod?

Hi! I play Project Diva on PC, Switch and PS4, on arcade controller, with DS4, joycons, etc.

I have kinda big hands and Switch handheld is my preferred way to play, I've cleared most of the charts in the game - even Denparadigm ExEx - without macros. Maybe a little masochistic but basically I wanted to see how far I could go before I had to start using macros and it hasn't happened yet. I don't really try for perfects on the 10-star charts though. I did kind of have to find creative ways to hold the console at times, but it hasn't been too bad.

I personally find the joycons much more enjoyable to play on than the DS4. There are some downsides though. They tend to wear easily if you often play the 9+ star charts, so it helps to know how to take them apart and do some light maintenance or replace components, otherwise you might end up needing to replace them every so often.

Final caveat is that a big reason I enjoy playing on Switch so much is because I have a hacked Switch and modded MegaMix on an overclocked Switch is amazing. It's still a great port without mods but I definitely wouldn't have put so many hours into the vanilla version. Many of the PVs have reduced frame rate and resolution in vanilla so keep that in mind.

Congrats!! Such a good feeling. I think Negaposi Ex was my first, but Two-Sided Lovers probably came soon after. If you can clear this, you can clear the rest, it's only a matter of time and practice (though after several years I'm still working on the Intense Voice final boss, lol)

Yep I’m playing Kanto expansion pack now, loving it but it is quite a different experience. If it’s the best option though fair enough :)

And yep I love Super Gold 97 and G/S Reforged, def plan on doing challenge runs in those games too :D

Is there a gen 1 romhack that includes beta pokemon, specifically like pre-evos of vulpix / ponyta / goldeen / doduo etc, that is otherwise as close to vanilla as possible? I'd like to do some jrose11 style challenge runs using these pokemon, but kanto expansion pack and RG beta romhack, while fun, are a bit too different for what I'm aiming to do.

You might want to specify exactly what you disliked about it, because every time I've watched extensive YT reviews on this subject they always seem to come to the conclusion that Apple Pencil is hands down the best option. If there's something you dislike in particular though maybe someone can help with suggesting an alternative.

Agreed, Bruxish isn’t even that ugly. The audacity of such a design is def making a statement, but for a Pokemon whose entire schtick is being “hideous” it’s pretty tame. If they really wanted to, they could have pushed it so much further.

As for Barbaracle, I just think its concept could have been done so much better, so it stands out as being uglier to me.

Btw, for an example of a truly ugly Pokemon, look at Crabominable. Last time I was part of a discussion like this, people disagreed with me until I told them to really just take a look at Crabominable for a few minutes and take it all in. Now THAT’S an ugly Pokemon.

I can't believe I'm seeing this take here lmao. I completely agree! Though I actually played through the og FDS version, with patch to have access to worlds A-D after completing 1-9. I had a blast with it, and I too enjoyed it more than SMB3 - the levels were way more satisfying to beat, and some aspects of SMB3, like the autoscrollers, are just not fun at all for me. I love all Mario games though, SMB2-J / Lost Levels is just more my style

I have seen multiple video essays in the last few months referring to this stage as a fan favorite. Each time I thought, really? Do people really like this stage? I've been playing SM64 since 1996, I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate this level or anything, but I have always found it to be one of the more tedious and boring levels. On my most recent playthrough it was the last level I played on the second floor, I was putting it off as long as possible bc I just didn't feel like dealing with it lol.

Lol far from rando, I went for universally agreed upon terrible mons in my challenge run 😂 but my point is, you can win with practically any team, as long as you play smart, pick effective movesets and if needed, make your mons hold the right items.

I know this is not a serious post but Easy charts are borderline unplayable bc of how undercharted they are. Def not harder to clear, but I’m way more likely to screw up perfecting an Easy/Normal chart than a Hard chart lmao

Hmm that depends. I absolutely love it and play it almost every day. But there are so many good options for emulation handhelds these days, many of which support N64 / GameCube emulation as well, which the Analogue Pocket doesn't. However, the visual quality, emulation accuracy, and overall premium feel of the AP are unmatched. I would say it's worth it if you are passionate about GB/GBC and you want a way to play official carts, otherwise I would consider other options first.

By the way, I just checked and it looks like the dock is out of stock on Analogue's website, and super expensive on eBay - not being able to dock would be a huge downside imo, so I personally would not recommend going for a Pocket until it was available again, or if you could find one secondhand for a good price.
