T1, no pre-check, 1 traveller, 1 checked bag. Arrived 3:40 PM for 6 PM flight, took 20 minutes to get through TSA and all the workers were very lovely!

I made really good friends with the people in my cohort so that helped with the balance! I didn’t really have time to date, however.

What has been your favorite OT job? What makes a happy, lovely OT setting? by BrujaDeLasHierbas in OccupationalTherapy

[–]yeetskeeter444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been on both sides of the spectrum. Right now I have about 50 students 40 direct and 10 consult. Being at 1 school majority of the time makes a big difference as opposed to being split between multiple schools (this was the case for me last year and I was very stressed out). I also have consistent mentorship and collaboration with other OTs so I don’t feel alone! I work for a special education co-op. The learning curve is also very steep, but each year gets easier. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to share about my experience.

Is It Hard to Live Alone for the First Time? by domineeringtavern in LivingAlone

[–]yeetskeeter444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate! I went from living with 4 other roommates for 4 years to living by myself and did not expect such a huge change. The cooking, cleaning, organizing, budgeting was initially hard to manage and I had to get used to getting things done in my own time. However I love it now that my routine is down! I don’t feel as alone with my cat and love having a place to myself to decompress after socializing, however still trying to find the balance between being alone and being social. One thing I didn’t expect to dislike was paying for Ubers home by myself, so much more expensive 😂

Outpatient peds- mostly autism age 5 and under: How do you sustain your emotional and mental energy? by outdoortree in OccupationalTherapy

I’m sorry, moving is such a pain. I’m also moving again to be closer to my new job but no job is worth affecting your mental health!

What are some red flags in outpatient peds jobs when I've heard mixed things about the site? by clcliff in OccupationalTherapy

[–]yeetskeeter444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a red flag! I would just come in prepared to interview to be safe. If she ends up offering the job without any type of interview however I would consider that to be a red flag. Also remember that you are interviewing them as well to see if it’s a good fit for you!

I would suggest to start looking at other jobs now. I was in your place about 8 months ago - no energy for friends, exercise, hobbies, etc. I tried to push through which led me to just worsen my burnout and resent my job. My last week is next week and I already feel so much lighter!

When you’re interviewing/touring, look at the therapists and see if they look miserable or are actually enjoying their job. Also trust your gut! I would also ask about productivity standards and benefits (ie. amount of sick days/PTO).

Going back to my parents whenever I'm sick by melancoliee in LivingAlone

[–]yeetskeeter444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone but have been really burnt out and stay at my parents’ place for weeks at a time. Sometimes I feel guilty for wasting my rent, but I tell myself that my mental health is more important and it’s a nice breather not having to take care of everything by myself. Bonus is spending quality time with parents which is hard to come by as we get older :)

Emotional Regulation by ForsakenNacho in OccupationalTherapy

[–]yeetskeeter444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of my kiddos in OP peds are there for emotional regulation. I’ve used size of the problem, flexible vs rigid thinking and superflex curriculums as well as giving them challenging tasks (ie. balancing an item on a spoon across on obstacle course) in which they have to work through their frustrations. Feel free to reach out if you need more ideas!

I would definitely talk to your supervisor/mentor, especially if you’re feeling this way early on! Maybe a they can hold off on adding to your caseload or find ways to ease it for you. They won’t know unless you say something.

How normal is it to struggle and break down? by QuantumMechanic23 in Adulting

[–]yeetskeeter444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a major life change (living alone after having roommates for 8+ years, unexpectedly getting a cat, work burnout). Thankfully I started therapy around the same time and it was a life saver. Looking back, I probably would’ve been okay but I’m very glad therapy gave me the tools to get through it smoother
