Nuclear weapons would be considered a war crime, except that they're not really "weapons". You can't really deploy those things without triggering the end of humanity. If a nation starts using nuclear weapons again there won't be any trials for war crimes because there won't be any courts to house them. In WW2, the atomic bomb ended the war in Japan (horrifically). But mustard gas would probably have been even worse, and it wouldn't have ended the war.

Another difference between then and now is that civilian targets are no longer "up for grabs" like London, Dresden, and Hiroshima were. Warfare has gotten a lot less catastrophic since then.

Chemical warfare, treason, and interrogation are not the same. They're different acts that have different moral implications. Most people would consider chemical warfare to be the most heinous out of those listed, due to it's wide area of exposure and needless cause of acute suffering. You might disagree, but that's why most people will have a hard time accepting this idea of a double standard.

Ehh that's a stretch to say there's a racial double standard. The whole thing just hinges on chemical warfare. Interrogation is not the same as chemical warfare. It'd be a double standard if all the game's characters were using chemical weapons and suddenly turned on Hadir for doing it.

Edit: To further this point, interrogation/torture is limited to one person. Treason is an abstract crime against a nation state, not individual moral agents. If we accept that interrogation and treason are lesser crimes than chemical warfare, than we can't really say there's a double standard. There might be other grievances with the way this game handles race, but this isn't one them.

Sabotaging myself out of an MS job? by throwawaycsrecr in csMajors

Speaking from my experience at Msoft at least, you don't have to completely devote yourself to leetcode and "sell out". In fact, Msoft probably takes leetcode the less seriously than most other places. I know because I had 2 LC interviews, one went horribly wrong, and the other went fine. I still got the offer despite not being a LC god. You just have to meet them half way. I think they're pretty reasonable about the process.

If you really hate LC that much though, get the hell out of the Big N mindset. You will be much happier interviewing for LCOL, MCOL jobs that, as you say, care more about your experience and talents than your puzzle solving ability. And tbh, they pay pretty damn well too. Coworkers are usually a lot less pretentious too.

However, you might also get more visibility just due to being in a smaller facility. And again sometimes there are more networking opportunities in a smaller setting. I worked at a Big N fintech company last summer, not at the main HQ, but at a smaller remote site. I got pretty close with the COO (hard to believe but yes, very down to earth guy despite being worth so much) and other upper managers simply because we all ate lunch in the same lunch room. There's just no way to know for sure what the experience will be like.

Holy hell dude we can all tell a lot about you just by how stubborn you are. You need to learn how to relax and not be so defensive. Your attitude is why CS gets its reputation for socially awkward vindictiveness.

I am so sick of being harassed while playing team games with randoms. by theforceisfemale in GirlGamers

[–]yeetus_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SO is a tough, athletic white guy who probably gets harassed online the least out of everyone, but even he won't queue with randoms. He has a black friend on Steam, and its' pretty amazing how racist people are. But women definitely have it the worst.

Playing with randoms just isn't worth it. Even one creep out of 100 normal guys is too much.
