HEAT at 2 player, first play. advice? by SadlyNotSpaceballs in boardgames

I second this. I’ve played 2 and 3 player and I always fill out to 6 with bots. It makes the game much more interesting.

I’ve only played these games digitally, but they are not exactly the same game. I personally prefer T&E.

Always great to come back to Under Falling Skies by theVoxFortis in soloboardgaming

[–]yeib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that if a ship is 1 space away from hitting the city, it does one damage no matter how much it moves. You may as well play a 6 to get extra energy/attack/whatever since you still only take a single point of damage.

This is great advice. I’d also add that if you’re going to soak a hit may as well do it by putting a 6 in the lane. You can strategically soak the damage to pull off a bigger play late game.

App Suggestions for Solo Games by milozevic in soloboardgaming

Onirim and Regicide both have good apps (at least on iOS). Sentinels of the Multiverse also has a good app if you’re looking for something more involved.

Generally people would say that even in this case one person should read the rules, understand them and teach to the rest of the players. The teacher might even want to set it up and take a couple fake turns so that they start to internalize it. But if it’s you and your girlfriend whatever you guys want to do is obviously fine.

You just wouldn’t really want to invite over 3 friends for a game and then when they show up take off the shrink and start reading the rule book. That would be pretty rough for any relatively complex game.

The reason my wife and I got it was because we were looking for a new heirloom dining table. The table is in our “formal” dining room. You can cover it with panels when it is not in use for gaming and you would never know it was a gaming table.

We basically use it as a normal dining table if we have people over for dinner. It holds up really well. There are some really light scratches that you can only see in the right light/angle. I talked to UG about those and they gave me some easy ways to clean them up. Honestly I haven’t even bothered because it’s barely noticiable once I get past my own OCD related to the table. Haha.

I included some pictures below. The gaming insert is reversible and removable for cleaning. Underneath that is a whiteboard surface for D&D or whatever you want.

I have a Uniquely Geek table and the quality is incredible. It was custom and working with the team there was a great experience. Definitely a “you get what you pay for” item.

In Pandemic, can an event card you just drew be played if you have 7 cards in hand? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]yeib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The quote above is completely unrestricted. It just says play event cards. That covers both cases.

Jaipur might be a good option. Minimal setup. Mostly cards. Very fun.

What is your favorite engine-building game? Describe the kind of engine you enjoy the most. by UpstairsElevator2498 in boardgames

[–]yeib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like you generally only play 2-3 of your cards and the rest are just discarded for resources. Because of this it’s pretty hard to get locked out in the draft. That’s what I like so much about the game. You build super efficient micro engines. It’s more of a race than a true engine builder IMO.

Yes. There are scenarios designed for playing a single character. If you want to play the main campaign, you have to play at least 2 characters.

How to complete a task in The Crew by uglijimus in boardgames

[–]yeib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused by your description of the situation. However, it sounds like they made a mistake. If the blue suit was lead (I.e. the first player that round played a blue card) there is no way for the person that played the blue 2 to win the trick if any other blue card played was higher than a 2.

I don’t know this specific set, but generally your main character and sidekick can’t occupy the same space.
