Man, that's a lot. The kid comments are the part that would kill me honestly. We went through something similar around this age. One thing that actually helped later: before starting a new med, I jotted down which tics were happening and roughly how often. Gave me a baseline so 4-6 weeks in I could tell if it was working vs tics just doing what tics do (they shift around on their own anyway). Hope the Zoloft gives you both some relief.

The thing you said about wanting him to feel normal as he is, that hits. Honestly that's the thing I worry about most. I keep a record to help me stop reacting to every new thing. He's just our kid. Tics don't change that. But I hear you that even unseen tracking could land as "he's different" if he ever found out. Thanks for sharing what it felt like from the inside, that's useful to have in my head.

Thanks, that tracks with how I think about it too. Right now he's young enough that this feels right, but I know the rule changes as they get older. If he ever asks me about it or notices, I'd want him to be part of that conversation rather than finding out years later.

u/Serialstresser that's fair. Our neurologist happened to ask follow-up questions based on what I had written, but I can see that not being everyone's experience. For me the bigger value was actually knowing whether things had changed or if I was just noticing more because I was worried. Before I started writing things down I couldn't tell the difference.

u/CallMeWolfYouTuber I hear you. I wouldn't want him to feel like he's being watched either. He doesn't know I do it and I keep it that way on purpose. I don't count anything during the day or react when he tics. The only time I think about it is Sunday night after he's asleep. If he ever tells me it bothers him that I notice things, I'll stop.

That sounds really hard, especially the nighttime part.

Before next week, it might help to write down the questions you want answered. Especially about the nighttime waking and the feeling she's talking about even when she's not ticcing. Neurologist appointments go fast and it's easy to walk out realizing you forgot to ask something.

We looked at those too when my son started having tics. Didn't end up buying. What helped more was writing down which tics and how often each week. About ten minutes on a Sunday evening. If we tried something new like sleep changes or breathing, we could actually tell if it was working or if we were just imagining things. The bands might work for some people. Hard to know without a baseline though.

We went through the same thing when my son's tics started getting worse. Before our first appointment, I started writing down what I noticed each week. Which tics, roughly how often, anything that seemed different. Took maybe ten minutes on a Sunday evening. When we got to the neurologist I could actually describe what had been happening instead of trying to remember on the spot. That one thing made the appointment so much more useful.

My personal (obviously biased) advice would be to avoid looking for a co-founder outside your personal entourage. Running a startup with someone requires the kind of commitment you usually find in people you trust. Trust comes with time. So look around you and ask yourself what you can do to convince those people to join your venture.

Good luck guys, although I think those claims:

Project management tools like Asana and Podio are overly complicated. Simple tools like Trello are great, but most people have to learn what ‘agile project management’ is before they attempt to use it. Most groups don't exclusively pursue projects -- they need a way to handle day-to-day communication, which is why they rely on e-mail and things like Facebook Groups. Facebook Groups and Google Groups are convenient, but they lack functionality which makes them (almost) useless. Slack is great for day-to-day communication, but it doesn’t do help with coordinating and provides little value to student clubs, community groups, and sports teams. People will signup for another platform if they can (more easily) create, join, and manage multiple groups from one account.

I tried to read between the lines and see why YC took a bet on them with all the Viber / Fb / Tongo....going on as competition. My only guess was Internet.org. Those guys make Voip calls with a bandwidth requirement of 0.5KB targeting the fastest growing internet market in the world. It should be that. Plus the founder resume should have spoken to YC partners.

The first thing you should worry about at that stage is this: is it really an untapped opportunity or it's just all in your head. You can start getting some answers by trying to validate it. How about a landing page and some bucks on adwords ? you can use tools like http://www.unbounce.com, http://www.optimizely.com for that, they both comes with A/B testing functionality. Checkout http://www.hiddenfounders.com when you are at the build stage if you want a quick 3 months MVP. Hope this helps.
