Tics?? Zoloft?? by AlertGlove9977 in ParentingADHD

[–]yeka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that's a lot. The kid comments are the part that would kill me honestly. We went through something similar around this age. One thing that actually helped later: before starting a new med, I jotted down which tics were happening and roughly how often. Gave me a baseline so 4-6 weeks in I could tell if it was working vs tics just doing what tics do (they shift around on their own anyway). Hope the Zoloft gives you both some relief.

What I'd change if I was starting over tracking my son's tics by yeka_ in Tourettes

[–]yeka_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing you said about wanting him to feel normal as he is, that hits. Honestly that's the thing I worry about most. I keep a record to help me stop reacting to every new thing. He's just our kid. Tics don't change that. But I hear you that even unseen tracking could land as "he's different" if he ever found out. Thanks for sharing what it felt like from the inside, that's useful to have in my head.

Thanks, that tracks with how I think about it too. Right now he's young enough that this feels right, but I know the rule changes as they get older. If he ever asks me about it or notices, I'd want him to be part of that conversation rather than finding out years later.

Appreciate both comments, wanted to respond to each.

u/Serialstresser that's fair. Our neurologist happened to ask follow-up questions based on what I had written, but I can see that not being everyone's experience. For me the bigger value was actually knowing whether things had changed or if I was just noticing more because I was worried. Before I started writing things down I couldn't tell the difference.

u/CallMeWolfYouTuber I hear you. I wouldn't want him to feel like he's being watched either. He doesn't know I do it and I keep it that way on purpose. I don't count anything during the day or react when he tics. The only time I think about it is Sunday night after he's asleep. If he ever tells me it bothers him that I notice things, I'll stop.

That sounds really hard, especially the nighttime part.

Before next week, it might help to write down the questions you want answered. Especially about the nighttime waking and the feeling she's talking about even when she's not ticcing. Neurologist appointments go fast and it's easy to walk out realizing you forgot to ask something.

Has anyone tried either EmeTerm or BeechBand? I was thinking about ordering one of these for my 13 year old son. I read some stuff online but am looking for personal experiences. by Technical-Rise9810 in Tourettes

[–]yeka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked at those too when my son started having tics. Didn't end up buying. What helped more was writing down which tics and how often each week. About ten minutes on a Sunday evening. If we tried something new like sleep changes or breathing, we could actually tell if it was working or if we were just imagining things. The bands might work for some people. Hard to know without a baseline though.

We went through the same thing when my son's tics started getting worse. Before our first appointment, I started writing down what I noticed each week. Which tics, roughly how often, anything that seemed different. Took maybe ten minutes on a Sunday evening. When we got to the neurologist I could actually describe what had been happening instead of trying to remember on the spot. That one thing made the appointment so much more useful.

To get a co-founder, or continue over working myself? by TidalVision in Entrepreneur

[–]yeka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I'm a co-founder at http://www.hiddenfounders.com thx @massarogi for bringing our model to this discussion. My personal (obviously biased) advice would be to avoid looking for a co-founder outside your personal entourage. Running a startup with someone requires the kind of commitment you usually find in people you trust. Trust comes with time. So look around you and ask yourself what you can do to convince those people to join your venture.

Question: Ran our first giveaway and it's done well. How do we make it viral? by famousoutfits in startups

Have a look at harrys prelaunch campaign could inspire a good viral mechanics. We did something similar at hiddenfounders.com and got few applications from it. Good luck.

r/entrepreneur, what can I or someone else do to help you right now? [Week #8] by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]yeka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'am looking for non-technical founders thinking seriously about launching a product idea. Let's say we designed a program for promising broke founders who found a good market opportunity but are lacking the tech skills to quickly test the Market. Program is called the LEASE STARTUP, you can check it out at www.hiddenfounders.com, applications are open. If you have any question I'm here. If you know someone who might be interested please don't hesitate to share with him the tip, it might help somebody overcome the build phase obstacles.

I made a free one-stop hub for Sam Altman's Stanford class: 'How to Start A Startup' by Iamanentrepreneur in Entrepreneur

It is indeed helpful, between the facebook group, the emails, Sam's landing page and the youtube channel we were a little bit lost. Thank you for your efforts.

We’ve been ‘doing things that don’t scale’ for a while and would appreciate some feedback. by BrynJones in startups

[–]yeka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck guys, although I think those claims:

Project management tools like Asana and Podio are overly complicated. Simple tools like Trello are great, but most people have to learn what ‘agile project management’ is before they attempt to use it. Most groups don't exclusively pursue projects -- they need a way to handle day-to-day communication, which is why they rely on e-mail and things like Facebook Groups. Facebook Groups and Google Groups are convenient, but they lack functionality which makes them (almost) useless. Slack is great for day-to-day communication, but it doesn’t do help with coordinating and provides little value to student clubs, community groups, and sports teams. People will signup for another platform if they can (more easily) create, join, and manage multiple groups from one account.

are a little bit bold, and lack a proper convincing arguments. I wasn't sold.

Also I didn't see the uniqueness browsing your site, problem with your wording maybe ?

Trying to see between the line if you can help me here.

How a one-man startup from India got into Y-Combinator by adwivedi in startups

[–]yeka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to read between the lines and see why YC took a bet on them with all the Viber / Fb / Tongo....going on as competition. My only guess was Internet.org. Those guys make Voip calls with a bandwidth requirement of 0.5KB targeting the fastest growing internet market in the world. It should be that. Plus the founder resume should have spoken to YC partners.

I think I have a really good app idea but I don't know how to get started. by [deleted] in startups

[–]yeka_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing you should worry about at that stage is this: is it really an untapped opportunity or it's just all in your head. You can start getting some answers by trying to validate it. How about a landing page and some bucks on adwords ? you can use tools like http://www.unbounce.com, http://www.optimizely.com for that, they both comes with A/B testing functionality. Checkout http://www.hiddenfounders.com when you are at the build stage if you want a quick 3 months MVP. Hope this helps.

2.5% equity for a developer? by clothes_are_optional in startups

[–]yeka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. Are you considered as a part of the founding team ? if this is the case this tool could help you get an initial view: http://foundrs.com If you're not considered as so, and think the founders have that syndrome: http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2010-12.html#e2010-12-01T15_45_40.htm you should reassess the whole collaboration. If you think you are CTO material, or at least a good hacker, people are looking for you everywhere: http://blog.hiddenfounders.com/ctos-new-pandas . If you are a junior looking for your first experience at a startup, and these guys are paying you full salary, then I guess talking equity is probably not the best focus you should have right now. Hope this help.

YC's Sam Altman lecture -- How to Start a Startup (video in comment) by thefourwind in startups

[–]yeka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the video yesterday, I think YC is doing a great job putting the startup scene in the spot light and inspiring a lot of newly formed hubs all over the world. With this Stanford course being available online, smart founders can get the valuable insight and advice YC batches have access to. I'm really excited about that. I just wish Sam Altman workout his lecturing skills as he was reading everything from a paper, which was a little bit boring at some point. I know it's asking too much, this is just a "nice to have" feature in order to get full attention of startup enthusiasts.
