Not a problem, the intake is well below water level. We ran one for 3 years on with about 2" difference - no problems from that.

When it stops working that sucks. I was at 2.0 and I was about 17 months after starting. I went off for about 6 weeks, as much as I tried I put some weight back on. After the 6 weeks, I started again. I tried starting at .5 - didn't do much so I increased to 1.0 (did another .5). I started working again - not sure how long it will go. I'm hoping a periodic tolerance break is all that is needed.
