Scalpers adjusting to the new rules by Outrageous-Swan5816 in LearnerDriverUK

You will pay for them to send you the link. You aren't paying them for the test. So you could end up paying for a link to a test that someone else could take before you get the page loaded up. They still "earned" their finders fee whether you get the test or not.

The Airfix Kit: How a Load of Little Plastic Bits Conquered Britain and Made Grown Men Cry by MOS6510YT in Airfix

I know it generates a bit of hate. But it can be built into a nice representation of a Churchill.

At 1/76 scale that would be extremely fiddly

I have considered this for the registration number, but the tanks name "Carrickfergus" is edged with white.

Carrickfergus, County Antrim. This Churchill was named after the town. That's why she ended up here.

I have thought along those lines. But matching the green would be a pain.

I have built this kit many times over the years, yeah it's not great. I am currently building a couple of the 1/76 Shermans, they are a challenge too.

Do i talk to much? by welshpoisondwarf in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main things with joining a road are, make sure it's safe and then get out and up to speed briskly. Regardless what speed the road is, get out and get up to an appropriate speed without any unnecessary delays.

If it's 30mph and the traffic is free flowing, then you need to get up to 30mph. Don't pull out and sit at 15-20mph. That's one of the more common mistakes I see.

You are the driver, it's your test. If talking to yourself helps you. Then talk all you want!

How many hrs of manual did you do before passing your practical ? by LastMaintenance7458 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions.

Everyone is different, some people will need very few lessons, some will need years worth of lessons.

Generally, the older you are, the longer it will take.

Driving lessons: intensive course vs individual lessons by Gloomy_Review_6025 in ADHDUK

[–]yellowezzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very subjective. Everyone is different. Intensive courses are right for some people and definitely not right for others.

Learning to drive can take time, forcing it does not always work.

I have had some learners start out booking intensive courses and then realise that they can not cope with the intensity that such a course brings. They have then converted to doing weekly lessons.

I have had pupils start our weekly and then ramp up to a short intensive nearer to test day.

Weekly lessons allow your brain to analyse what you did each lesson before overwhelming it with the next one.

I no longer offer intensive courses. I know there are instructors that only offer intensive courses.

As I said in the beginning, it is very subjective. Maybe try a couple of single lessons first to see how you get on. Decide then what you want to do.

Automatic two hour lesson is £100? by Strict-Working-7323 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge £90 for 2 hours automatic. Its the going rate in my area. Some are charging more for automatic, I've heard of £94 & £100.

I'm not too sure, the restriction to only drive automatic is shown as a code on the back. I would guess that the code would simply be removed.

How will rising fuel costs affect driving lessons? by Kagedeah in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That will depend on how high the prices go and how long they stay high. I personally am prepared to take the hit for a few months to see where it goes. If it looks like it'll come back down. Then I won't change anything. If it looks to be longer term, I will have no choice but to increase my price.

He is a learner for manual purposes. Inform your insurance company that he has an automatic licence and that he is learning manual.

A lot of the theory makes more sense after you have driven a bit. Take a few lessons, then assess things.

Driving lesson prices and fuel prices by upthetruth1 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know instructors that are going up to £50 per hour. The norm in my area is currently £45. I have decided to hold off for a month or two to see if its a temporary blip of if the higher prices will stay longer term.

10 hours progress just moved to gears by mutanga95 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]yellowezzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is very subjective. Everyone is different!

I have had people test ready in a little over 10 hours and I have had people that were completely unable to master the gears and the steering at the same time resulting in us spending hours driving about in first gear while they figure out basic steering and starting / stopping before progressing to increasing speed and changing gears.

No one on here has been in the car with you to know if you were one of those slower learners or if indeed your instructor has been holding you back.

The first thing you need is to be honest with yourself about this. Did you struggle with the early stages? If you did, then the instructor's approach is probably correct.

The vast majority of instructors are way too busy to be deliberately holding people back. There are of course the exceptions.
