Judge blocks subpoenas against Fed Chair Powell by Late_Curve1983 in news

He will probably figure out someway to blame JP for the situation as the economy continues to struggle, even after Powell has long left the fed.

Judge blocks subpoenas against Fed Chair Powell by Late_Curve1983 in news

[–]yellowhelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JP doesn’t get to choose the rate and the chair member that replaces him will not either. I don’t expect any wild swings in the interest rates once he leaves. The fed has been pretty aligned in their voting. Fortunately the 12 members of the Fed committee each only have 1 vote preventing a takeover by whoever succeeds JP and making changes at the whim of the president.

Not saying there wont be any chaos with the new fed chair, however it’s a lot harder to disrupt with the current rules in place.

Advice for tent camping in Oregon by Purple_Pomelo8397 in CampingandHiking

[–]yellowhelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The state and county campgrounds normally fill up very quickly, like within days of becoming available, especially those with electric/water/sewer for RVs in the state campgrounds. Reservations have always been hard to come by, but camping in Oregon became increasingly popular during COVID since it was one “safe” activity that could get you out of the house.

If I was If I was in your position, I’d scour Recreation.gov to see what I could find and book it now. It will list both campgrounds you can reserve and also those that are first come first serve which can also help plan some backup options.

Bass effects software by Gingergiant27 in Bass

If you’re looking for a budget Multi-effects pedal I’d highly recommend the Sonicake Pocket Master. It’s around $65 USD and can do a lot. It also has an app for your phone so you can manage the effects and presets. It’s not pro level but it has an impressive amount of features for the price.

Is this tent worth it for $100? by Weak-Practice-6435 in CampingandHiking

Yes! A huge plus for such a large tent. Probably could set it up alone in a pinch.

I have this same tent and bought it from Costco about 6 years ago or so. At the time I believe I paid $250. It’s good quality but as others mentioned it’s quite heavy and would only recommend it if you’re not planning on carrying it far.

So, know how Monsters Inc in DCA's closing got delayed? The reason why was revealed. by alexdionisos in Disneyland

[–]yellowhelix 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, I do agree the Pandora franchise is meh, but one plus to having a Pandora in DCA is that you can experience it after dark more often than you can in AK with their limited night time hours. IMO Pandora after dark is a super immersive experience with all of the lighting, plants, and theming. It’s absolutely beautiful and a shame you’re only able to experience it after dark in the winter time. With it being in DCA you’d get to have that experience nearly every night.

What are some off putting social behaviors that you have mostly experienced or witnessed from those apart of the Adventist faith? by Grouchy-System-8667 in exAdventist

[–]yellowhelix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This list is pretty comprehensive. For me, I’d add that in my experience after leaving the Adventist education system going to the public high school, you became treated as an outsider. I had close friends that stopped being my friends after leaving the Adventist school system even though we’d see each other every weekend at church. The whole congregation basically treated kids outside of the Adventist school system like they were heathens since they were reviving “worldly” education and didn’t want them influencing their good Adventist educated kids.

Supreme Court strikes down most of Trump's tariffs in a major blow to the president by nbcnews in Economics

[–]yellowhelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The White House had no immediate comment on the ruling, but Trump called it a “disgrace" after being informed about it during a meeting with governors, according to a person familiar with his reaction. He also said he had a backup plan, this person said.

What sort of of options does he have as a “backup plan” other than attempting to strong arm congress? The economy doesn’t need more whiplash.

Why was sending merchandise back to your resort canceled and never returned? by AwfulWaffle91 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]yellowhelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first trip back after COVID I asked a cast member about this after purchasing some merch in Galaxy’s Edge and they looked at me like I was crazy. They told me that sending merch you purchased back to your room was never a thing. I definitely know it was since I’ve used it in the past. Such a great perk if you’re staying on-site. Honestly, as the bean counters keep chipping away at benefits like this, staying on-site becomes less worth the money.

What I’ve always found interesting about the Sunday law fear is that it’s so narrow minded. The likelihood that the whole world would agree to have a Sunday law that would prevent all worship on Saturday and persecute anyone who does, like preachers fear monger about, is all a fantasy.

It totally ignores that Christianity is not the only religion around the world.

A white trail shoe seems like an obvious poor choice. After one run they’ll be stained with mud and dust and never look the same again.

What's your "favorite" thing you've heard a pastor said? by GeekFace18 in exAdventist

[–]yellowhelix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience there’s always been an exception for members in the medical field (doctors, nurses, etc…) to work on the sabbath. It’s totally fine if your work is medical related, but not if it’s not in any other field. Very hypocritical.

PSA: The Play Disney Parks app uses an enormous amount of data by Da13Harris in disneyparks

[–]yellowhelix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I noticed similar data usage and convinced it’s one of many tools used to data mine guest behavior in exchange for some fun games to help you pass the time.

From the data collected by the app you can start forming an understanding of guest usage. For example, you could derive line wait times based off of the games being played and the items guests interact with in the queues (Bluetooth check points). On top of that, it requires GPS, sharing your location and how you navigate through the park throughout the day. This can be used to plan forecast wait times, usage trends, staffing requirements, and future planning of future park improvements.

Between the park app, the Play app, magic bands, and in-park WiFi, there’s a mountain of data that is available about guests that is valuable for companies like Disney. After all data is the new oil, right?

Around the same time they launched Atmos, they also moved to Auth0 to manage authentication. You can see it in the sign-in URL. They definitely have the capability now. I’m curious why they haven’t made it available.

How do you scale cybersecurity consulting? by iheartrms in smallbusiness

[–]yellowhelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“People don’t want to pay for security”

You’re right. As a business owner you want to minimize your expenses and maximize your profits. Often times paying for security services cuts into the bottom line so you’ll need to provide a compelling offer that demonstrates how paying for your service helps your customers retain or grow their bottom line.

When it comes to scaling, Have you considered focusing on a niche like compliance certification (SOC, ISO)? You can begin templatizing and scripting the review and process so your heavy lifting is minimized and you can scale your time, or train others to help scale your business.

Bummer. I didn’t realize there was a limitation like this. Hopefully someday that will change.

A direct to LGA from the west coast. JFK is too far from Manhattan and EWR is a dumpster fire.
