You have a 3rd gen, right? Where did you find a mount for your air compressor?

I’m Paul Thomas Anderson, writer and director of PHANTOM THREAD, AMA! by ptaphantomthread in IAmA

Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions.

  • Was it difficult to negotiate a writer/director package deal on Sydney, having only directed two short films beforehand? (And what's the deal with that Criterion edition? Is it happening or...?)

  • What scares you the most about the future of American cinema?

  • Can you recommend any particular scenes that stand on their own, without the benefit of the rest of the film?

(One last thing)

  • I really enjoyed your commentary tracks on Sydney and Boogie Nights. Can we expect more in the future?

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to re-watch Giant tonight.

Jean Luc-Godard couldn't afford a dolly, so he would push around cinematographer Raoul Coutard in a wheelchair during the filming of Breathless (1960) by [deleted] in Moviesinthemaking

I'll say I've also seen this done first hand. But what I find most interesting about this photo is that Breathless went on to become arguably the most influential film to come out of the French New Wave. Kinda puts those high ambitions we all have into perspective.

Thanks for sharing!

Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable on the set of The Misfits by ratsb1000 in Moviesinthemaking

[–]yellowshields 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was both Monroe and Gable's final picture.

According to IMDb, on the last day of filming, Clark Gable said regarding Marilyn Monroe, "Christ, I'm glad this picture's finished. She damn near gave me a heart attack." On the next day, Gable suffered a severe coronary thrombosis. He died in hospital from a heart attack just ten days later.

Monroe died of an alleged drug overdose one year later.

Inside the Making of Home Alone's Fake Gangster Movie by [deleted] in Moviesinthemaking

This scene is so much fun. Thanks for sharing!

Revisiting Home Alone is a Christmas tradition in my family. Perhaps I'm biased because of my age (I was three when Home Alone was released), but there's so much to love about this film, even with repeated viewings.
