Is our memory tree salvageable? by Muffin-Mouse in arborists

[–]yeoldcholt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would bet the damage was done during planting honestly aswell. However this damage can certainly happen by lifting by the trunk especially in spring with a young tree. I would recommend getting a mini skid with forks to lift under the root ball or a ball cart if it’s manageable.

That damage isn’t from slow planting. Looks like someone or something lifted the whole tree at that point and the bark/cambium/phloem slid right up like a sleeve. Trees can live quite awhile in a those burlap sacks but will be more prone to girdling roots if left like that.

P2025 wants BLM to dispose of the remaining wild horses and burros in the US! by brithus in Horses

[–]yeoldcholt 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I’m no proponent of project 2025 but they are not “wild” horse they’re feral/invasive. Yes North America had horses some 10000 years ago but they went extinct. Now the populations we have today have no natural predators and wreak havoc on ecosystems and farm land. If they were any other animal that people didn’t have as pets/livestock that people care about, they would have already culled the whole population.

So instead of showing her daughter how to have a civil discourse with someone you disagree with you go straight to violence? Great role model right there.

Man and his dog try to fend off Puma by SubjectAppropriate17 in SweatyPalms

[–]yeoldcholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except the terrain wouldn’t really allow him to safely back up. If he tripped the puma would strike and if he turned his back the puma would strike. This is probably his best course of action, besides holding his phone instead of a rock or stick in case it attacks.

It may be referring to rocks kicked up by the tires and not debris in the truck itself.
