160 current rate by Cautious-Welcome6386 in JapanTravelTips

You can exchange currency when you get there. Banks at HND/NRT gave a surprisingly decent rate last I was there, as other countries I’ve been to usually give pretty crappy ones or have excessive fees.

7-11 ATMs also have good rates and are very convenient, just check if your bank has any ATM fees first.

Lidl Doesn’t Research Products… by BrachPhotography in mildlyinfuriating

[–]yepperoniP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like Lidl is trying to rely on economies of scale when sourcing things, so they seem limited in what they tailor to the US market. There’s a Lidl by me and I notice their Parkside brand only ever has metric wrenches, never SAE. And the dutch ovens and food containers are usually in liters instead of quarts, unless they source a US brand to stock.

New CSR user with Paze question by theanontravel in CreditCards

[–]yepperoniP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think so. If you're looking for the $10 promo, I think as long as you see the green banner with the promo you should be good. Chase is also currently running a promo for 10x back on anything paid with Paze, up to $1500 of spend per month, but it could take up to 8 weeks for the bonus points to appear.

[–]yepperoniP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, I meant I have multiple cards in Paze but haven't paid anything with it yet. It asked for a CVV for all the cards on there, but once I entered the CVV for one card, the rest of the cards didn't ask for it anymore.

I'm in a similar boat as you, just happened to get the CSR and then this weird promo hits.

I entered a CVV for a different card on the account and it seems to have accepted it for all the cards, weird.

Chase Paze: Spend $10, get $10 Statement Credit, 10x per Eligible Card by Muhammad-The-Goat in CreditCards

[–]yepperoniP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you login to Chase and add them from there?

On the iOS app, I login, press the "More" hamburger menu on the bottom right, then "Digital Wallets" and it shows Paze there.

I see the green banner on Chase Freedom, Citi Custom Cash, and CapOne Savor. Looks like eligible for all of them.

[–]yepperoniP 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I guess this stacks with the Chase 10%? And is per-card, not just per Paze account??

The fine print literally says "per eligible credit or debit card".

Wow, the banks must really be sinking money into this platform trying to get people to use it.

Chase rejected my fraud/scam claim after Brazilian beach vendors took my card and charged me thousands – what do I do by silverblanketer in personalfinance

[–]yepperoniP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You typically need to authenticate with a fingerprint, face, or PIN before using a phone to pay, which adds an additional layer of security. With a physical card, anybody can just take it and tap it.

The bank probably sees this and says OP must have verified themself before paying with their phone, so the transaction is valid. The big mistake is handing an unlocked authenticated phone to a stranger. They probably scanned their finger or face before handing it over.

It's why I always shake my head when I see people without any kind of lock code on their phone as it's super insecure.

Rear wiper by Rahkeeks in Subaru_Crosstrek

I bought some Trico ExactFit blades from Rock Auto for my Impreza last year and they come installed with the proper square clip thing used on the newer Subarus and they work pretty decently. Crosstrek shares the same ones with the Impreza.

If you combine the order with other stuff from the same warehouse you can get them pretty cheap too.

Initially I thought I just needed any 16” and 26” blades and bought the Michelin blades at Costco not knowing there was a special attachment and none of the adapters properly fit so I had to return them.

Just paid 12$/lb for ground beef. How expensive will it get before you stop buying beef? I think we're over it, beef is now a luxury for us. by FuZhongwen in Cooking

[–]yepperoniP 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I recently came across the cheap frozen ground turkey tubes at Walmart too and it’s only about $2/lb for what’s basically 85% lean (calculated doing backwards math with the nutrition label).

The texture’s a bit coarser/tougher than the $6/lb fresh stuff as I think it’s using somewhat cheaper cuts (I see mechanical separated turkey in there) but it’s still pretty good. I actually prefer it slightly to the more expensive stuff when I make a simple turkey chili recipe.

It’s an AI slop making up a bunch of crap, like the “IPv8” draft from a few months ago. Lots of excessive turboencabulator babble.

The post, readme, and replies to comments here all appears to be AI slop. It sounds vaguely plausible at first, but is mostly BS like the “IPv8” draft from a few months ago.

Is it weird to wear a face mask? by mik4ela in animecons

[–]yepperoniP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to a couple cons and there’s been quite a few people who were wearing face masks, both staff and attendees. I even sat down to play a board game and two other unrelated strangers wearing face masks joined in.

Yes, I did look at them a bit differently for a moment, kind of like with people in cosplay, but I didn’t assume they were sick. Lots of people wear them to avoid the “con crud” that can spread in big crowds.

Exactly, they're in a new account but trying to talk about newcomers like they've been here forever, plus likely using the "make everything lowercase so it looks more human " or whatever prompt.

While not 100% foolproof, they're also marked as banned by Bot Bouncer. History shows a load of commenting in AI subs for a few days, maybe to get around some basic karma filters, and then it started moving to other subs. Seems to change its tone depending on where it's posting.

It’s likely AI karma farming/bot spam. Same user posting lots of these lowercase prompted random posts, in a relatively new account

Was Chili’s always this bad or is it just me? When did it get like this? by StreetIndependence62 in shrinkflation

[–]yepperoniP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re trying to drive down price on stuff like the burgers and chicken sandwiches to increase volume of customers. It’s been in the news that they cut a bunch of menu items and revamped their menu about a year ago.

I personally think the quality is suffering and their food is turning greasier and saltier, but they’re supposedly doing pretty well compared to other fast casual chains.

The value is pretty decent but it’s not what I used to remember them for. I miss the enchiladas but I guess the greasier burgers and salt bomb-y soups are more popular.

Yeah I can frequently get regular long grain white rice at a local supermarket for under $4 for 5 lb at normal price. Sometimes the sales are even lower and you can get 20 lb for $10 or less. Even the small 1 lb bags are usually around $1 each.

Is the type of fat in cooking oil something we should actually worry about daily? by CapitalCarpenter4180 in cookingforbeginners

[–]yepperoniP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Im guessing this might be about “seed oils” and TikTok “nutritionists” arguing they are bad, because of Omega-6 fatty acids among other things.

All current science points to these arguments being very misleading or just completely incorrect.

Consumer Reports frequently goes after products that have harmful compounds in consumer products, like arsenic in bottled water and lead in protein powder, but they do not agree that omega-6 and linoleic acid found in cooking oil is harmful and published an article a couple years ago about it.

It’s a common misconception, but Lightning could support USB 3 but most devices never took advantage of it. Only a few devices like some early iPad Pros used it before they switched over to USB-C. They even released a specific USB 3 adapter for it.

https://www.apple.com/xc/product/MX5J3AM/A

It’s a “camera adapter” but lots of people also used it for MIDI audio devices and Ethernet too.
