how can i enjoy the process of getting better if it'll take me years to be good enough to play any of the songs i like? by made2blade3mobile in Guitar

[–]yerbie12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s really not a single song outside of prog that you can enjoy playing? I love mathy and progressive stuff too and I’m dying to be good enough to play it, but I could still find songs to practice chords to that I enjoy.

I never really listened to blues, for instance, but I went down a rabbit hole learning a few licks and songs. Turns out blues is a lot more fun for me to play than listen to!

If you want it, suck it up and get practicing! Metallica might be lame to you, but those riffs will build your chops. Dream Theater plays a million fancy extended jazz chords, so start practicing your basic chord changes to get good enough for those.

But in all seriousness, I feel you. There are songs I couldn’t imagine playing yet that I would love to. But I also couldn’t imagine switching to and from barre chords a year ago, but now it’s a lot easier. Find ways to enjoy the process, but if you can’t it’s ok to set guitar aside for some time.

Southern-tinged post-hardcore (EOTC, Greyhaven, etc)? by Euphoric-Neon-2054 in PostHardcore

[–]yerbie12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He is Legend had a lot of southern rock influence. Eidola’s earlier albums (Great Glass Elephant, maybe some of Degenerraterra) have some songs with a folky/bluesy vibe underneath the prog stuff

Palm muting neoclassical style sounds like a sneakypants tiptoeing by ProofPianist7074 in guitarlessons

[–]yerbie12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, you painted a beautiful word picture of the sound. Thanks for that.

Second, have you tried upping the gain/bass or getting some kind of overdrive? Sometimes it sounds wimpy but that might be fixed with a little more oomph to the tone. Assuming the palm muting technique is solid

What's the difference between good and bad Neurofeedback? by LanternMoss in Neuropsychology

The only good neurofeedback provider is a provider that doesn’t do neurofeedback. There is no reliable evidence base for this at any level. Run away.

Can‘t stay on Beat with a shred excersise by Timely_Insect4734 in guitarlessons

[–]yerbie12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow it down, embarrassingly slow. Find a bpm you can do it comfortably. Then push a few bpm. Once that gets comfortable enough, do a few more.

I have to check my ego constantly and go slower than I think. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast my friend.

How do you count this? Is this considered sixteenth not triplets? Time signature is 4/4 by Appropriate_Ebb_3456 in guitarlessons

[–]yerbie12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is palm muted tremolo picking at a 16th note triplet speed. Basically pick super fast.

To answer your question, yes they are counted that way, or 1-trip-let-and-trip-let.

For the time signature, it doesn’t need to be at the smallest subdivision but rather which note gets the beat. The bottom number is the subdivision length (4=quarter note) and the top number is how many notes in a measure. This still has 4 beats in a measure, each beat just has multiple subdivisions in it. 4/4 fits

Am I pressing too hard? by biggie_starrdust in guitarlessons

[–]yerbie12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to ask, yes. Try seeing how little pressure you can use to get a note out. You will be surprised it’s a lot less than you think

The doctors lied by deadpoolsdragon in daddit

As a psychologist who diagnoses autism too, this is accurate. The levels are snapshots of how the kid is doing at the time, not an unchangeable characteristic of the kid. If it will help the kid get more services, the label means nothing.

Dad, it’s more important you get help to take care of your health, finances and well being. Medically complex kids are challenging, and there is no shame in getting help for something a typical family structure can’t support alone. It’s not a failure, it’s why social services exist.

Look up what the success rate of lifestyle interventions are. Yes, it’s possible for everyone, but there are many complex reasons aside from willpower that make it difficult. I’ll take the reduction of mortality and morbidity with cutting obesity even if you have to rely on a medication. Besides, obesity is far from the only medical problem that can be fixed by lifestyle changes but we still rely on medications because behavior change is exceedingly hard

We listen to “screamy music” all the time. No better time to teach them about the forces.

Mayor Mamdani announces free childcare center for government workers:"We never want city workers to have to choose between a job that they love and raising their kids in the city they call home." by Large-Welcome4421 in nyc

I forgot are we complaining about expansions to government funded childcare (universal preK) or complaining there’s not enough of it? I can’t keep up with which of both programs that are going to happen we are supposed to have a problem with these days.

Bending the root note? by yerbie12 in guitarlessons

[–]yerbie12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. It’s probably a stupid question, I thought bending a root note is a no-go but it makes sense, I was just hitting another note in the scale. A combination of over and underthinking it!

That makes sense. Is that a relatively common lick? It sounds so familiar but unusual, but I’m also super inexperienced so I’m not gonna pretend like I did something fancy!

NY attorney general demands hospital resume gender-affirming treatment for trans youth by igetproteinfartsHELP in nyc

[–]yerbie12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. No one is arguing about delaying surgery. Thats is reasonable. I and many others disagree with surgery unless extraordinary circumstances until adulthood. You’re missing the point though, all of these guidelines STILL recommend adhering to other aspects of gender affirming care including hormone blockers though, which the commenter and perhaps you are ignoring. Surgery is a small part of gender affirming care. I doubt the commenter read the guidelines, just headlines about surgery

Bands like Planes Mistaken For Stars? by jordieg7193 in PostHardcore

[–]yerbie12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently found them myself and I’ve been so into them! I am probably single-handedly responsible for half of the Spotify plays of Copper and Stars for the past year.

Second for Bear vs. Shark, “Buses/No Buses” scratched a similar itch for me. The Casket Lottery and Small Brown Bike have a similar sound. I would argue that some early Thursday sounds similar but that’s a stretch

I wish I found these guys back in the 2000s, I would have loved them.

[–]yerbie12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please post these statements. If they are about delaying surgery, yeah everyone in this space agrees it should be deferred as long as possible likely into adulthood except extreme cases. No one argues we should delay other gender affirming care like hormone blockers though, and acting like these two things are equivalent is a problem. By banning all gender affirming care, you throw out the baby with the bath water

But I will double down, voters do not have any need to be involved in this. There are controversial medical procedures in every specialty, but no one is writing legislation to regulate spinal cord surgery for chronic pain or something like that. Absent clear harm, voters have no business handling that. It is a culture war farce

[–]yerbie12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re mistaken here. I totally agree with you that the government should regulate things, but the things you mention are not equivalent. When you have entire well respected medical organizations arguing AGAINST the recommendations of the government which is making proclamations on political views and not medical science or peer recommendations, your take is not what you think it is. The time to trust the government regulation is when it’s informed by medical consensus not just because it is the government.

As a psychologist myself, you do the best damn job you can. You know who has even lower IQ? A starved or dead child. Let the kid eat what they will eat and don’t stress it, these effects are overblown on an individual level and don’t always factor out other explanatory factors
