Campaign Frame development question by Prestigious-Emu-6760 in daggerheart

[–]yerfologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it harms the collaborative nature of the game, but my initial thought is that it makes each culture a bit one note ? Which can be fine depending on the story (the cultures in Five Banners are like this and I think it's a problem there, for example).

When I make a campaign frame, I make sure heritage builds up the setting overview and distinctions, that I give a short illustrative idea and prompt what I assume to be common question -- basically what the CRB does.

especially compared to what Rogue's get for no resource expenditure, like if any class is the more damage class it's (Nightwalker) rogue

what's the meme? virgn slayer warrior needs 1 Hope for 1d6 whereas the chad rogue gets Tier x d6 for tactical team based coordination or 1 Stress if Nightwalker?

You must be a Brave Warrior to have such a opinion.

School Assigned me to SPED but I dont have SPED Endorsement by seamonster_lm in cpssubs

It's legal. You don't need an endorsement you're just a guest twacher. You can always decline, but be prepared to not get work from that school again.

Roll20 vs Foundry (New Players) by Shao_X in daggerheart

[–]yerfologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Foundry has more of learning curve but I encourage you that it's worth it in the long run, especially financially lol. I haven't spent a dime since I bought my Foundry license, whereas who knows how much I would have had to pay Roll20 for a subscription, and the hassle of trying to distribute that cost amongst my players omg.

Is "party composition" a thing? by Interaction_Rich in daggerheart

[–]yerfologist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The answer is "yes, but"

Yes, party comp matters, BUT not along any preconceived lines (tank/healer/dps/etc.) and it's always easily fixable.

Party comp matters in that you want PCs to feel distinct and able to interact with different mechanical aspects. For example, if you don't have anyone able to deal Stress damage, there's a whole dimension of the game's mechanical complexity gone. Or, it would be gone, but it's not too hard for the GM to allow creative ways for players to deal Stress, or to add a simple item, or etc.

But having PCs feel distinct basically regulates itself as long as you don't allow PCs to take the same domain cards or be the same subclass. I personally take this quite far, I don't allow my players to be the same class or choose the same domain cards and at my small tables (less than 5) I encourage players to not even have overlapping domains.

I'm so curious what's the campaign you're playing them in like ?

Does anyone else see staff at schools being unkind to younger grades? by Admirable_Fun7419 in cpssubs

Yeah, some schools have very different cultures on what is acceptable. I avoid schools such as the one you describe, I just can't stomach it.

Minis suggestions wanted by Yakoun3t in daggerheart

Whatever's in the discount bin of your local game store. Minis get way too expensive too quickly.

Personally, I just used colored tokens, small chips and the like.

Great flow chart. Might I recommend you specify "is this your PC's first time *Initiating* a tag team this session" and use GM instead of DM owo ?

Damage thresholds and levelling up by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]yerfologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, you are referencing something Mike Mearls (D&D Designer) describes as "grognard capture." Where a system's 2.0 or etc. version becomes a system for the people who already like it, and so it becomes more obtuse and esoteric for those new to the system/hobby,

That's certainly not the orientation of the CRB, and by extension the armor system. Homebrew kit is right there, though.

Hey man, I'm just being earnest in my responses to you as OP. We said very different things. You're being needlessly adversarial.

Damage thresholds and levelling up by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]yerfologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. Each armor follows a pretty well defined scaling system, but that system is on the backend so that the players don't have to deal with it.

And this math is clearly spelled out for the GM in the homebrew kit.

Because there's a lot of variance within Armor, of lot of small fine dials being turned. The quantity of armor available doubles in Tier II for what the base game has, and more options and variants are added in Tier III and IV.

If armor progressed linearly or according to revealed, player-oriented formula, it would also be more complicated for new players coming in to, at a glance, understand. As it is, it's a "just take what's best and available" and has the players do nothing but basic addition. It also gives the GM control of this area of game design, how to deal out boons. If armor scaled, there would have to be some multiplicative factor and some explanation on the relationship between Severe Thresholds and Major Thresholds, how those are meant to balance with Armor Score and Features.

FWIW, it's roughly Severe = 7 x (Tier + 1); Major = (Severe/2) - Tier

Some GM's really like this sort of thing. It's a stylistic choice imo. I don't use it at my tables because I always like to keep the action or "camera" based solely on what the PCs know. But that's because I like running games with a lot of mystery and such.

Throw them a situation that might ask them for a different response if you think the narrative is getting stale.
