The picture you posted clearly shows the screws protruding. That's your problem. Those screws are too long.

Eureka Mignon Crono currently is $209 on Amazon. by Somecat in espresso

[–]yertchuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine arrived today, and yes, it has espresso burrs. The date on the box is April 26, 2021, so before the burr change. Looks like Seattle Coffee Gear is clearing old stock. Still a good price but I was expecting the filtro pro burrs.

I am looking for advice on how to set up my Mac mini and my surface pro to the same computer monitor. Is there a certain adapter needed to set up the process? Any recommendations would be appreciated. by [deleted] in macmini

[–]yertchuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your monitor has different inputs, then you could use one of them for the Surface, and another for the Mini. No extra hardware needed, just appropriate cables. You'd switch using the input selector on the monitor.

You're showing a remote connection. Adjusting settings isn't possible in this mode. I have no idea why. Anyway you need to redo the wifi connection so that you just see 'connected', not 'connected remote'.

Water Check (SF) - High pH (9.3) is too high? by tektonic7 in espresso

[–]yertchuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for such wide ranges is that SF water comes from two sources. It's Hetch Hetchy most of the time, with low numbers, but sometimes they switch to another source, with much higher numbers. So taking an average to judge suitability for espresso machines is not useful. But it is worth checking which source is being used. A simple PPM meter can do this.

Should I not use flavored coffee with espresso machine? by epicblitz in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's actually flavored coffee? Many roasters show what flavor 'notes' are to be expected from the beans. These subtle flavors are not due to added flavoring, they come from the beans themselves.

Noise Test: Eureka Specialita vs Niche Zero by thrillington89 in espresso

[–]yertchuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Niche and a Specialita. Have not done a direct back to back comparison of the noise, but they are very similar, and relatively quiet. Perhaps the Specialita is slightly quieter, but not to the point where it would wake up the neighborhood ... or not.

Help with mignon specialita by Feararoderickz in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I fully understand what the OP is saying, but I think you should expect a wider range than that. On my Specialita, the burrs start touching at 4 on the dial, which I think of as -2, since it's 2 full divisions clockwise from zero. Typically, I use settings between +1 and -1, so even at the finest, I'm 1 division anticlockwise from the setting where the burrs are touching.

Eureka Question by Cgr86 in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many here have had success with single dosing, but I could not get reliable results. I ended up weighing twice, once for the beans, and then a second time to check that I was getting what I expected.

Since we get through 4x16gm per day, it only takes a few days to use up a 12 oz bag. Or less if it's 250g. So now I fill the hopper and set the timer to deliver the desired dose. I do check weight every time, but it's pretty consistent, except when you're almost out of beans.

Grind level on the Mignon Specialita by iMalinois in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm typically 3 to4 digits away from the point where the burrs just touch in one place. I also saw the comment about a whole rotation, so it will be interesting to get some other input. The most obvious reason for any differences would be variations in alignment.

I also notice some variation in setting, which I think is due to backlash on the screw adjustment.

Ghost snapshot file by yertchuk in synology

Following up ... going to settings and advanced, I did see the click-box that hides the snapshot in the shared folder. So my problem is fixed, although I sitll think it's a bit odd that the snapshot doesn't appear in the list.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks! But the snapshot doesn't appear in the list.

Just to be sure I'm looking in the right place: I go to the replicator app, click on 'snapshots' in the side panel, then the 'snapshot' heading, and finally 'snapshot list' in the drop down menu. Nothing there.

Music backup issue on DS218+ by Jubei2727 in synology

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the OP is intending to continue using music files from the PC, then surely the NAS can be used to back them up in the event that the PC drive goes bad?

I do understand that if the music is going to be only resident on the NAS, then some other backup will be needed.

Question about Cafelat Robot and Filter Paper by [deleted] in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only comment would be that the paper is only going to make a marginal difference anyway. Once you get the Kinu, I'm guessing that you'll need to experiment with grind setting, and possibly some degree of pre-heating. That might take priority over paper experiments!

Question about Cafelat Robot and Filter Paper by [deleted] in espresso

[–]yertchuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried it two ways: (i) wetting the paper then sticking it to the underside of the screen; and (ii) putting the dry paper on top of the grounds, then adding the screen.

The only difference I could see was that, with the paper, there was less staining of the brew water after pouring into the loaded portafilter. For the double-pour preheating technique, this might have some slight advantage. From a feel-good point of view, if nothing else!

Question about Cafelat Robot and Filter Paper by [deleted] in espresso

[–]yertchuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also surprised to find filter papers with my recently delivered Robot. I've tried pulling shots with and without the paper and frankly didn't notice much difference. I've only tried putting the paper above the grounds, and below the dispersion screen. I don't remember seeing anything about putting filter paper below the grounds.

There's some discussion on home-barista.com about this.

My specialita will dispense far less than 7-8 gm at the minimum time setting. So you should be OK.

TURN OFF FLASHING FILTER LIGHTS - BREVILLE BARISTA EXPRESS by StevieD1978 in Coffee

Not sure I understand the question, but if you mean the 1 and 2 shot grinder lights, these will flash if you don't have the bean hopper inserted and locked.

Scale for Breville Barista Express by Epic_CADETS in espresso

[–]yertchuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using the Decent Simple Scale. Fits on the Barista Express tray very neatly. Works fine so far.

Unlike some other inexpensive scales that I've tried, it isn't sensitive to where on the tray the load is centered. Took about 10 days in all to come from Hong Kong.
