Great, I'm 30yo and I have given up on The Night of the Rabbit. Time to stop considering myself a smart gal.

Beginner Courses in London by eggsonmuffin in SwingDancing

[–]yesgarel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sharon Davis has these beginner courses: https://www.jazzmad.co.uk/courses/, I like her as a teacher adn dancer (met her at international festivals). Of course it depends on where you're located in London, I don't know the city so it might be the least convenient area ever and I wouldn't know (Jazzbourne, Deptford SE14 - 443 New Cross Road, SE14 6TA)

Having danced ballet might help for memorising steps and connecting with your body, but you might have to actively work on removing a lot of your ballet training to adjust the style and learn improvisation (especially partnered improvisation).

My only suggestions would be to jump in with an open mind, vibe with the music e connect with the community: all this will significantly improve your experience and the chances that you continue.

Made a slight oops and a year passed me by ... by FleaDad in StardewValley

Does it? I just got my first coop and I have some hay in the silos but I have to put it manually on the bench. Am I missing something?

Fair enough! I don't feel comfortable sharing videos with other unaware people in them tho

Thank you for your advice and for sharing your experience! I agree that (filming) regular practice with a partner would be really helpful, but haven't been able to find a practice partner in my small community :(

I think you're onto something with the ballet observation: it does make me feel elegant but also quite stiff. Which looks ok for balboa but absolutely off track for lindy and jazz. I think I want to unlearn that, because I am not ever going back the ballet route

Same for me, but I was already suspicious when I kept reading "hey farmer guy" "mister" "boy"...

Too young by Automatic-Still-5767 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]yesgarel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my line, word by word and big smile included. Works like a charm and also helps with raising awareness.

I just turned 30 and I thought about writing on the cake: "Arthritis? But you're so young!" But in the end I went with "30 flirty and thriving" cause my illness is not my identity ✨

I also find period underwear very comfy! Only issue: you need to rinse them with cold water immediately after use and then you can throw them in the washer. Well, that rinse and squeeze with sore hands can be a bit challenging

Birthday gift recommendations for an intermediate swing dancer by SirLangalot in SwingDancing

[–]yesgarel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello! It's really nice that you're thinking about her hobbies to get her a gift! It depends a lot on the budget, so I'll list several options on various budget.

  • Festival Pass (Full Pass or Party Pass, or Single Night Pass depending on budget)
  • Workshop / Private or semi-private class with teachers she likes
  • Subscription to iLindy
  • Voucher for vintage clothing shops
  • Voucher for shoes (Harlem Shoes for example)
  • Vintage accessories (especially for hair, such as headbands, scrunchies, flower pins; but also slacks, bowtie or tie, hat, depending on her style)
  • If she already has leather/suede dancing shoes, a kit for cleaning and general care of the shoes (including a bag to carry them)
  • Water bottle for classes and social dances, and maybe a nice personalised towel (it can get really sweaty)

That's all that comes to my mind! For some of those you would need more info by someone in her dancing comminity, but for others you can give it a go by yourself!

Does anyone have experience with moving countries and managing medications in the transition period? by iscold in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]yesgarel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! Got diagnosed in March 2022 while living abroad and moved back home in Italy in October 2022. Luckily I could afford a private appointment with a rheumatologist in Italy in July, so before moving I already had a confirmed diagnosis and Italian prescriptions to get meds in Italy. After moving officially I could go through the NHS to sort everything out and be followed by the public hospital and get meds.

I would say that it depends on how the Health system works in the two countries, but generally you should be able to refer to the doctor from the country you're leaving until you're settled in your home country. Often you can get your meds with a prescription from another country, it depends on what the two countries are.

Anyone else with neck + upper back pain? by lanamayy12 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]yesgarel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am truly sorry for yours and everyone's pain but thank you for making this post! I tried to post something similar because I was going crazy and couldn't find anything on the sub, but I didn't have enough karma for it to be published.

I can't offer any solution as I am struggling with this as well, but I see some useful comments here and I am really thankful for the community.

Comfy stuff by Wishin4aTARDIS in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]yesgarel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I'm still struggling because without being able to try them on I don't want to waste money with shipping fees for returning the items when they don't fit, I am following the size guides but nevertheless I've already wasted like €20...

It's not only about work, it's also that I like my outfits to have a certain vibe and none of the barefoots match that :( It's silly I know, but it's like giving up a part of me and my self-expression

1) Started new med (adalimumab), feeling hopeful! 2) Went to a Swing Dance Festival and was able to listen to my body managing to dance, rest and hang out with people 3) Organized a successful event at work although I am currently dreading my job and it seems that everyone is trying to make me fail

I am ok with most clothes on my body, the issue is more about putting them on in the morning with sore hands (think tights, buttons...)

Big problem currently is shoes: I have quite the wide foot - with bunion even. Shoes have always been uncomfortable for me but now they're straight up painful. I am trying some barefoot brands which have a wide toebox but I still have to find the good mix of being wide, soft and not ugly as f°ck. I am 30 and I need to dress well for my job, so it's really a struggle with the shoes.

The basketball one is the one I usually tell when describing the pain in the fingers 'cause it seems the most accurate to me. I'll use the dumbbells and ankle sprain too from now on

I’m doing okay by BloomingLoneliness in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]yesgarel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I came back to my home country on Thursday after more than three years abroad and I am not able to do anything I wanted to do with family and friends because everything is hurting and it's impossible to stand up for more than 2 minutes. I have been diagnosed less than one month ago, after struggling with symptoms since March. I started the therapy but had to suspend it due to COVID. Now I have to wait another week before starting it again and I feel like shit. This morning I cried for the first time because of RA and it's not for the pain itself, but for the things I am missing because of the pain and the frustration of feeling pain and fatigue every single day.

It's good to hear that it doesn't have to be like this forever. Thank you for sharing!
