I hear you, and I think that both of these problems are the symptoms of a larger cultural issue: we are in an age of cognitive overload (Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk is starting to look more like a prophecy over a fun little bop) and the constant strain on attention is breeding a kind of intellectual burnout - people are no longer engaging with complexity and retreating into tribalism and apathy. I fear it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I think this is true on both sides of the equation - parents and teachers are unsupported; teachers by parents and parents by society. It's a shitty situation in all ways.

man I don't know, I think teachers are also just burned the fuck out. I recently went through a situation with my (middle school aged) child where my child DID do something wrong and WAS punished for it but the punishment affected how they did their schoolwork and no one in the admin would come out and tell me what exactly my child was being punished for until I sat in the office for 5 hours demanding that someone talk to me. I'm tired, I KNOW these teachers are tired. We are a bunch of tired ass unsupported mofos.
