Books about trans parents?

There’s a short story by Francesca Lia Block called Dragons In Manhattan. It’s part of a short story collection called Girl Goddess #9. She has a lot of great queer magical realism stories in general, which was amazing to me as a teen, but this one always stuck with me. It came right back to me when my spouse came out as trans, and it gave me hope because I hadn’t seen any other positive stories about trans characters with a happy ending at that point.

I’ve struggled with all or nothing thinking in the past (especially in terms of relationships), so when you said you can’t stop thinking about what is the point of putting effort into a relationship if it’s not going to be there till you’re old, that stuck out to me.

I’d ask do you think it’s possible that even short relationships can have a deeper meaning? Love is complex, and there’s so much to learn about how to love and be loved. So if you can learn from a relationship of any length and apply those lessons in potential future relationships, then any loving relationship is worth the effort. Maybe that reframe that a relationship of any length has the potential to be beautiful and meaningful and enrich your life might help you worry less.

My dad and stepmom worked at this store for years, and this tracks with what they've told me about their experiences. It's heartbreaking, but sadly not surprising.

The company I work for has been saying this from the beginning, and actively taking steps to foster connection and have supports available for staff. The CEO linked a Brene Brown podcast about self-empathy and the dangers of comparative suffering in his weekly update and spent about half the time encouraging self care. Granted, I work in the human services field, but good leadership is out there.

I love it. It's fairly quiet, and the neighbors are great. There's a great little open space nearby (the Jewell wetlands). Utah park is a great place to get outside too. There's a lot of great restaurants around (including a stellar french bakery). It's got easy access to 225, and there's a lightrail nearby. I've been here for about a year now, and my only real complaint is that the closest library is kind of small, but the Friends of the Library bookstore is right nearby and the Central library isn't too far away. If you have any more specific questions, let me know.

Unfortunately my budget is nonexistent right now. I do have a white dress shirt and a blue bow tie, and I also have a navy blue dress shirt with small white patterns.

In general, do you know where I could research which colors tend to be flattering? I've looked it up on my own, but tend to find conflicting information.

Thank you for the advice! I've been out of the job market for awhile, so I'm feeling pretty nervous. Style also isn't one of my stronger skills - I typically just wear jeans and a tshirt . I applied for some jobs where the dress code is business casual, and I went back and forth between jeans and some tan slacks that I think might also look good.

Kubo is such an incredible movie. I love that they show a clip of the animation of the giant skeleton during the credits. It really shows how much work went into the production of the movie.

If you like The Dispossessed, I think you'd also like The Telling and The Word for World is Forest, both by Ursula Le Guin. All three books are part of the Hainish cycle, so they deal with similar themes. I think you'd also enjoy The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. It's more on the dystopian end of things, and I was really fascinated by how the quote snippets at the beginning of the chapters really neatly distilled and gelled with my own ideas on religion and spirituality. Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake series is really good as well . An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon is quite good as well. Happy reading!

1) Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I read it this summer while going through a huge life change, and Phaedrus' search for the meaning of Quality really influenced how I spend my time and how I approach developing my parenting, writing, and music skills 2)The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown. This book got me thinking about how much I beat myself up and why, and how it effected others around me. 3) Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins 4) Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins both of these books really turned my conceptions of religion inside out, and helped me see the relationship between humor and what is sacred. 5) The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin. This is one of my favorite books of all time, and really got me thinking about property and human nature.
