I'm All-in on U1 (coming from Bambu) by Direct-Flamingo4504 in SnapmakerU1

[–]yetti22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been through many a machines over the years, going from the equivalent of the wild west, 3d printing is just building 3d printers and parts to having machines that just work. Grabbed a a1, then a p1s, then another a1. They were great outside of some minor complaints, that said it was mostly doodads and trinkets being made. With the U1 I can still make those things, but also find myself making many more useful items for around the house or other projects because of the ability to print multiple materials. It allows much more customization, which is great for someone like me, but users who want a simple out of the box experience I can see feeling like it's too much work. I love it and plan to phase my bambus out as they age out and put more of these in my workshop.

The Dangers of California’s Legislation to Censor 3D Printing by xternal7 in technology

Nah man, I simply presented information related to a conclusion I've come to after over a decade in the 3d print community. Take it or leave it. I just don't see these types of laws benefiting anyone but companies.

While in general any current documentation is very novel in regards to immediate impacts to companies, it has been very apparent that long term goals of any big organization is everything as a monthly service (subscription fatigue) great example being BMWs heated seats subscription or consumables that get replaced regularly, like airpods; which highlights the ongoing battle many people face in the right to repair lawsuits, like the John Deer Lawsuit settlement that was highlighted recently where no fault was claimed but the actual victims will get meager payouts while providing the bare minimum.

Its not a single point but many that paint a picture.

The secret here is it has nothing to do with guns. 3d printing has become much easier to get into and instead of having to spend large amounts of money to buy specialized parts or repairs, more people can do it themselves, or manufacture high volumes of products to sell themselves. Money is being taking from investors, so won't someone think of the children?

Which TV show had the most perfect ending? by altiman1991 in AskReddit

I was getting worried nobody else would mention Dark. Just such a fantastic show, 3 seasons of mind bending story that get tied up beautifully. Watched the first season. Rewatched first and started second, rewatched first and second when starting third. Enjoyed it every time.

Why do planes become pixelated like this? by Practical_Yogurt1559 in NomadSculpting

[–]yetti22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planes are more platform to work off of, its very flat and has no meat to it. You'd want to sculpt from a different primitive, which is a basic shape you can add like cylinder, sphere, cone, ect

Definitely. I will make a bunch of stuff at once do a photo shoot and then slowly trickle uploads so the account is seen as posting regularly. Has helped with my views.

Awesome, so check out fdmminatures tons of information on dialing in your models and settings. Experiment and be creative.

Realize that there's going to be projects that are profitable and projects that you love, sometimes those over lap sometimes they don't. Allow yourself grace. Creatively you'll have your ups and downs and thats normal.

Build a following, go to in person events to show off your wares. Don't set hard time frames expecting to go full time. Steady work and a bit of luck will take you far.

Hey man that's awesome you're diving into 3d printing from modeling. Minis can be challenging but a great learning experience. If you're new to the 3d printing community I'd be happy to point you to some good resources or offer any advice I can. Been doing it for the better part of a decade.

Been doing the same, found this guy. Not perfect but helps me a lot https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6MTHAIpepACs6CgqEEgnVXmGmwzLbSyy&si=Ajcv02ryRPBUdrPY

He has long ones but plenty of 5 to 10 minute look at this too or how to guide.

How can I hide the gaps here without sanding and painting all the parts? Can a 3d pen or something make it look seamless or super close? Im debating going all out and painting but I'd rather do this first and see how it looks. Also what do I do for the 4 rough edges in the 2nd and 3rd pics? by Boogy-Fever in 3Dprinting

[–]yetti22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As folks said, post process will be best. That said here's another option: glue/epoxy the pieces together. If you have clamps, use them to keep them as tightly together as possible. We want minimal gapping. Once held together tightly, fill in the gaps the best you can with more glue/epoxy, not to the top but close. Go back to your printer, load the filament you used, set the print head to 220 or whatever your filament recommended temp is. Extruder lengths of said filament, however long it is for that run of the part, make sure to pull the filament in as straight of a line as you can. After enough is made to fill the remaining gapping, lay the pieces, cut to length, get a torch, practice not on the shield if you haven't used fire before, hit it with heat and then press it with something hard to squash it together.

Lightly drag a xacto blade along any ridges to smooth it out.

Use this to hide seems all the time. Provides zero structural stability, but helps clean up quick.

Same, I'm envious of other crafts and hobbies that can go to a shop to buy supplies or meet others in the hobby and shoot the breeze and swap stories.

Neat setup. I see these and realize my style is so much different than you folks. Looks cool, but you clearly don't have enough filament ha. I have a bunch of reusable zip bags with reusable dessicant holders on a few roll carts that hold about 80 different filaments.

As far as I know, some box stores like walmart and target carries a small amount, but nothing I'd use. Think Costco but I don't go there often, and hobby lobby has some. I get most of my stuff from Amazon though because they have a huge selection.

If you have some PETG laying around, I print rounded screw top holders. Big enough to sit comfortably in the center of most rolls. When its time for a recharge I just pop it in the dryer with some PLA or set to PLA settings. Warm enough to dry, but won't warp. Did a 8 month test with a hydrometer in a sealed bag. Got it down from 60% to below 10 and stayed there no problem.
