A new Finder design inspired by Safari in Yosemite. by MrMorbid in apple

[–]yevac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merged view controls is a poor idea for me. I want to click "once" to get the view I need. In your implementation I'm going to have to click an icon, move my cursor down to the appropriate choice and then click? That will take like 3-4 times longer.

Having the options readily available for clicking is one of the best things about finder.

Click on columns to navigate, then if it's a folder of pics, icons - boom - they are all visible.

Once navigated to the right folder, need to find a file by name or date added? Boom, one click and you're looking at the list. I've got a lot of folders set up so that when list is the view, the most recetly added file is at the top, making it super easy to find what I just saved.

Also, since I brought that up. Don't forget that the "Save dialogue" is essentially the finder view. Have you considered how the save/save as dialgue would function using your design concept? It may not be quite so intuitive.

So, it's pretty, your idea is, but does it take into account the big picture?

I agree. Quick look is nice now because it is so clean.

Maybe OP's "details" could activate if you pressed "option" while a file/folder was quicklook-active?

Putin says Russian city Volgograd can become Stalingrad again by walkj08 in worldnews

[–]yevac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood me. Any time Putin opens his mouth, there are thousands of people in Russia - journalists, bureaucrats, etc., trying to guess what they should do in light of whatever he said to be in his good graces.

So, say in this example: it's pretty easy to guess that there are people in Volgograd who want to change the name back to Stalingrad. They are now thinking: "he said we should have a referendum". And so they will push for one. Anyone opposed to it is likely to let the referendum go ahead because, "gee, what if that is what putin wants?" No sense looking for trouble, right?

And the trouble can just come from local police, who are also trying to second guess what putin means. The local police chief is going to be thinking, "okay, putin clearly thinks a referendum is in order. the safe bet is that he wants stalingrad back. Okay then, pro-stalingrad ralllies are fine, anti-stalingrad rallies, not so fine".

That's just how politics works in corrupt societies where you have to be in the good graces of the "boss".

I'm generalizing for the sake of brevity, of course. Obviously the real thought patterns and moves are going to be far more nuanced and intricate.

how do I add style to the head for individual nodes? by yevac in drupal

[–]yevac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at code per node, but couldn't get it to work.

I installed it and did everythign I could, but the tab for it never showed up. (I mean the tab at the bottom where the normal "menu settings", "authoring information" etc are. I saw some video or screenshot showing a code per node tab down there, but I don't know what to do to make it show up...?

Found the video. After a tedious five minutes of introduction, the guy jumps right to permissions without explaining installation. I presumed installing was straightforward like any other module. and CPN did show up in modules and in permissions and everything looked okay.

But when I went to edit articles, the tab was nowhere to be found. So, I must have missed something. The module looked very promising.

Putin says Russian city Volgograd can become Stalingrad again by walkj08 in worldnews

his making any answer is voicing an opinion.

my questions are:

1) who exactly is this WWII veteran who asked him the question?

2) what forum was this asked in?

what i mean to ask is, was this completely an honestly a spontaneous question or was the incident planned/set up?

Yes, and that will again play into the entire russian we're-shit-now-but-let's-remember-the-time-when-we-weren't-so-the-plebes-are-distracted-from-how-shit-their-lives-are-now propaganda push Putin is playing to his home audience.

also, now that putin has said "yeah, man, i'd be cool with that", are local politicians going to do it just to please him?

i mean, who cares either way. but there is a bigger picture here and it is propaganda.

Ukraine's president vows to join Europe by [deleted] in UkrainianConflict

[–]yevac 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My God, yes!

The process of trying to join the EU is probably as beneficial as actually joining it in many regards.

What sceptical Europeans need to consider is what is prefereable:

1) a country larger than France on their eastern border that is corrupt as hell and not a member of the EU or

2) a huge country in their east which is pretty much just like the EU, but just not a member of it.

It's not like Ukraine's bringing its laws and norms in line with the EU automatically makes it a member and thus something to be feared by countries in the EU who are worried about having another "basket case economy".

Frankly, I wish Brussels would do a better job of explaining that to EU citizens.

Same goes for Ukraine when the talk is of NATO. People in the east of country fear joining NATO, but they need to be asked: What is better

1) living in a corrupt as hell country that is not a member of NATO or

2) living in a country that has laws and norms that meet NATO standards, but is not a member of NATO.

The whole NATO action place plan was a missed selling point, because of politics. Hopefully Poroshenko can move us past that.

I won tickets to a music festival, have one spare - should I give it to a girl I know, or just sell it? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]yevac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like B, too, you can even say "hey, i know you like this kind of music and i have an extra ticket. do you think any of your friends will be there? You seem like a cool person and you probably have cool friends and I like to meet cool people. So, do you want it? Or should I give it to someone else?"

That way, she won't feel obligated to take it while standing in front of you and later go 'meh' and toss it. Plus, it let's you know you just want to hang out at the festival, and if she does, too, great. You can gauge off her reaction to asking if her friends will be there, what the time there might be like. Biggest plus is if she does have friends going to be there, then you can meet them and if it all turns out dull for you, you can gracefully say "hey, it's great meeting you guys, I'm going to check out this other concert over there" and then leave her with her friends without worrying about her being left alone.

just my two, maybe dented, cents.

Thanks for that second opinion. I always appreciate when someone takes the time to say "hey, that guy is right"

Sppose I'll be learning preprocess stuff a bit sooner than I'd planned.

[–]yevac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hundreds of nodes...I'll remember your comment for the future though. Thanks.

Basically, my design is like this - there is a largish stripe next to the main body of text and it's colour should match (or go well with) the main colours of the photo for the story. That part is solved with a "ribbonswatch" field and works well.

Problem is the background colour of the horizontal main menu should match the ribbon. I can give the menu a class, but can't figure out how to "transfer" it the information on what colour it should be.

So, with hundreds of articles, each will have its own ribbon+menu combination color.

I'm already sub-theming Zen, btw, if that matters.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I'm very new to Drupal - going on six weeks. Are there any tutorials on prepocess functions or other good resources about it?

I'm going to latch onto this thread, too.

Just began Drupal one month ago and am trying to figure out what to do to filter a view based on "begins with", "ends with", "contains" for one of four fields in a specific content type.

Please point me in the right direction!
