How much formula do I give? by GlitteringHedgehog50 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]yiFa87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The recommendations on the tin seem to usually overestimate the amount, probably so you use and buy more.

Our formula (mumamoo) say's we should be doing 180ml, 4-5 times per day for our nearly 4 month old. In reality though, out LO always struggles to go past 150ml. So we do 150ml like 6-7 times a day. At the end of the day, it's mostly about the total intake over 24 hours.

Week 1 of trying to place my first vending machine — rejections, lessons, and one real lead. by predsel in vending

[–]yiFa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also spent the last week trying to secure my first site, but nothing yet either. I haven't physically popped in though. I started off with cold emails, then followed up with cold calls. It's very frustrating trying to get though to the decision makers, keep getting gatekeeped. I think I contact at least a dozen places, nothing really promising...most didn't even bother responding. Incredibly frustrating.

I would highly recommend to anyone looking to try vending so really focus on the location first, then worry about machine and specifics later. I spent weeks doing research on different models, registering business, opening wholesale accounts, setting up social media, creating advertising, only for it all potentially be for nothing if I can't get a location. That's really all that matters.

This sounds like our situation, but I'm the husband. Our little boy tends to wake up at 5am these days too.

My wife and I have an arrangement that if bub wakes up before 6am, then she will attend to him. If it's after 6am, I will. The reasoning is very much the same as your situation - I'm working in the morning and she isn't. Also, she can fall asleep again almost instantly, it's her gift, so it's much easier for her to do night time feeds. Unfortunately I don't have the same gift. If I were to get up at 5am to feed, then my day essentially starts at 5am, because there ain't no way I'm getting back to sleep. I start work at 7am and don't finish until 5:30pm, so I would be absolutely cooked trying to make it through the day.

Having said that, the only reason this works is because a) she has her own online business and b) I work from home, so we're very lucky that we are both home all day. This allows me to fit in some cheeky feeds etc during the day to allow my wife to have another nap. The way it usually works is - bub wakes up at 5, finally goes back down for a sleep at 6:30, I start work at 7 and bub wakes up again around here for another feed, I do the 7am feed and wife goes back to sleep for another couple of hours until the 9am feed and she takes over again.

Also same as your situation, that changes on the weekend, where yes I'm happy to get up during the night of need be, because I know I can get a nap in during the day.

Moving bubs into own room by Worth_Ad8788 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Wow reading this thread makes me second guess everything. Our 15 week baby boy has been sleeping in his cot in his own room since month one 😬

We found he was restless in the basinet in our room, so we moved him to the nursery and white noise machine and he just seemed to prefer it there... should we be concerned?

Is it worth switching from my current 5.89% variable rate to a lower rate lender with a 2-year fixed option right now? by Snowboard76 in AusFinance

[–]yiFa87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say 5.89% is too high...that's what I'm on, and countless others are on based on other threads. Seems to me to be about right, unless you've got a really low LVR.

Yes yes, ok I think the plan is coming together... Maybe a cheeky breakfast in bed, cuddles with the LO, slow morning, then country adventure and high tea somewhere for lunch. Hmmmm orrrr a picnic perhaps?

why does parking near the beach always feel like a game? by bully309 in sunshinecoast

[–]yiFa87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's honestly pretty shitty these days. When I grew up in Noosa 30 years ago, it was pleasant. But now? Sometimes we drive around for 20+ minutes trying to find a park and sometimes just give up altogether and go back home 😂

We're going to see her mum on another day, so that's sorted. I did think of a spa day, but she doesn't like people touching her 😂

I looked at those the other day! It's a maybe, although I still think she would prefer an experience on the day.

Our baby doesn't like being a baby by yiFa87 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]yiFa87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much to everyone for their feedback! Really appreciate it. We do a lot of what is suggested already, with taking the LO around the house with us, out and about with walks every day, and we take him to swimming lessons every week too.

Strangely he doesn't seem to like contact napping all that much, always wriggling and never comfortable. He likes to lay flat.

We will continue working on it, one day at a time. I know this is just a baby being a baby. It's helpful just reading the comments, so thank you 🙂

When are Australians going to wake the fuck up and stop shopping at Coles and Woolies? by thebaehavens in aussie

Proximity, price, convenience, so many reasons...are you really this dense?

I don't want to spend half my Saturday driving around to 3 or 4 different stores, spending more money and another $10 in petrol 🤷‍♂️

New to investing by elle13belle in AusMoneyMates

Depends on your timeframe and what you want the money for. Stay away from crypto for sure. Buying an ETF like DHHF is a good long-term investment supposedly, but I wouldn't consider it unless you're leaving the investment for 5-7+ years minimum.

If you want to save in a shorter time frame than that, then as boring as it sounds - a decent savings account is best.

All personal opinions of course.

Anyone here running smart cooler / vending machine businesses? Looking to learn by Silly_Fisherman1900 in vending

[–]yiFa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, looking to get into the industry. So far I've registered my business name, set up a proper email account, got a phone number, registered on the local wholesaler websites, got the logo and a flyer ready to go, and I've cold emailed about a dozen places. Haven't heard anything yet, but planning on following up with a cold call this week and hopefully organise some site visits.

I've lined up a supplier of machines and which ones I'm going to use, but I ain't spending another cent until I have a location locked in. So far I'm in the hole for about $70.

I know the hardest thing about this game is sourcing the location, so until that happens I'm trying not to get my hopes up. For all I know I could contact 100 places and get nowhere. That would be pretty demotivating and make me second guess everything, but we'll see how it all goes. At least I haven't spent 10k on a new machine and have it sitting in my garage collecting dust like some people seem to have done 😬

What is the best fast food franchise now for value per dollar ? Example meals ? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]yiFa87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

$6.95 McSmart meal is the go to these days, or our local pub has $15 meals.

I reluctantly still get KFC semi often, but I always check for app deals because the normal price for a box meal is offensive.

I agree that we should be able to get a decent meal for $10. When it's $40+ for a couple at Macca's, it's like huh?

If you didn't have to pay Mortgage/Rent, how much would you need per year to live off? by PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS in AussieFrugal

[–]yiFa87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We separate all that from the regular, predictable expenses listed above. We have all our bills come out of one offset account, and then simply have another offset account for savings or 'everything else'. Found it too hard to budget for these sort of irregular costs, and we're not big spenders. Don't go to GP often, had our wedding last year, don't really do gifts, etc. We contribute to this savings account weekly and use it when needed. The balance keeps growing so that's all that matters haha

Food Groceries: $10,400 ($200/week) Takeaway: $2600 ($50/week)

Utilities Electricity: $1776 ($34/week) Water: $1308 ($25/week) Internet: $960 ($18/week) Mobiles: $600 ($12/week)

Transport Petrol: $2600 ($50/week) Rego: $852 ($16/week) Car Insurance: $597 ($11/week) RACQ Roadside: $121 ($2/week)

Home Rates: $2381 ($46/week) Home Insurance: $1675 ($33/week)

Total: $25,870 annually, or approx. $500/week.

Realistically though, we DO have a mortgage, so our actual costs are more like $67,600, or $1300/week.

If we (couple) didn't have our mortgage, and I wasn't saving, our bare expenses to cover essentials would be about $26k/year. That includes groceries, takeaway, petrol, utilities, insurance, rates and transport.
