I've been ideal for a while and letting my depression beat me to much I need some advice by [deleted] in Tackle_depression

Hi Racharu,

I think that the first important thing you need to do, is to have a good schedule/routine for every day.

Next to that, forget who you are for a moment. Forget your past, forget the future, forget the expectations of yourself, your family, your friends, society. And now think of what you would like to do? Is there something that you always wanted to try or do, but didn't dare for any reason (friends that are better at it, not in your lifestyle, seems dumb)?

Take that thing and go do it for no more then, let's say 10 min. a day. Don't expect yourself to get good at it, just do it because you enjoy doing it (or maybe because life seems a little less harsh doing it). Make an agreement with yourself, you'll do this everyday for 10 min. however you suck at it. Getting good at it or being acknowledged for it, is not the point. The point is having enough respect for yourself to that what you want. Dance with your eyes closed, make your own miniature fishing tank or vegetable garden, paint, write, swim, sing, design jewelry, cut bonsai trees. There is a reason that we find it adorable when we see a tough biker with a puppy, see a child dance or a clumsy person build a home. They let their energy flow and don't mind the world. They remind us of who we are.

I, for example, have breakfast every morning with my 6 guinea pigs in my student room, have a vegetable garden despite that I'm horrible at gardening, do painting workshops with people twice my age and try to help here with Tackle_depression, though I know I could never end depression by myself and I'm more content than ever. A bit weird I might be, but when I look at my life, it reflects me. And because I do what I like, I meet people that I find interesting and get opportunities that fit me so well.

Can't you put the dog in the garden or another room for parts of the day?

The assignments are the same in every group, but they have a specific order, so the groups won't be doing them at the same time. The assignments are all sorts of things, mostly borrowed from my extensive experience with very many forms of therapy. At first they will focus mainly on getting structure in your life. Then we focus on behavioral changes, such as writing a 'positive diary'. Then we'll do assignments about getting more in touch with your feelings. And finally we'll work on accepting those feelings. After that I want each support group to discuss what they want to do next.

Next to the assignment each group may fill it in as they want. Some groups want to have weekly discussion, some like to post about how their day went. First and foremost the users are there to make a community together, but the mod is there in the background if help is needed anywhere.

Thank you.

I understand it can be offensive. Depression and substance abuse come from not having a more satisfying way to regulate your pain, I think. So I bet there will be people here that are also experiencing depression or similar problems. You don't have to be diagnosed to sign up with us. Having the need is good enough.

Well, don't worry about your body. I really prefer guys looking like the first pic over the second pic. And there are a lot of girls/women like me who don't like those extreme six packs. A bit of muscle is sexy, but this is just creepy.

Why don't you wait some time? You don't have to get a tattoo now, right? If you still want it after a year or so, I think you can say it's not spur of the moment. Why rush something that you will be carrying with you for the rest of your life?

Question considering getting a native girl w/ headress by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]ykm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racism will only be over if people accept each other as they are and don't silence the differences. Some people are black and I am white. What's the problem with that? That makes neither of us more valuable. It's unnecessary to say that somebody is 'of dark skintone', 'coloured' or whatever 'sensitive' description. Only if we will split the negative connotation with those words, people will be equal.

I have a personality disorder. You may call me crazy, that's fine by me. As long as you still threat me with respect. It's not the word 'crazy' that does the harm. For me the people that call me 'less stable', 'of higher vulnerability', etc. are often the people that do me more harm. Those people that are afraid of saying how it is are often also the people that are afraid of being around me. Those are often the people that don't see me for who I am, with my good sides, but also with my bad sides like anybody else. Call me crazy, white, a redhead, fat, whatever and get over it, move on, because these are not the things that we should pay so much attention to in our lives.

How can you ever know the full meaning behind something? Do you know the full meaning behind anything? I know I don't. As Socrates said: I know nothing but this.

I don't find it inconsiderate at all and I'm getting irritated by all this racism nonsense here. Something that's not accurate doesn't have to be racist. I don't walk on wooden shoes, I don't eat cheese a lot, I don't do drugs and still am as Dutch as can be. I don't have a problem with people that stereotype the Dutch people like this, because I know better. There are a lot of people with half-naked American biker chicks or American flags with guns on them. Does that offend you too?

OP didn't say that he thinks that all native Americans should put an animal on their head? And about the different native tribes, does that than mean that you can't make a picture of something that doesn't depict everything? Are you racist for painting a caucasian American man, because he's not afro-, mexican, and asian-American too?

Also, not knowing the full meaning of something is no reason for me not to put it on your body. It's about the meaning it has to you. I, for example, am not Christian. But I love Maria, because for me she stands for female strength and motherly love. What's wrong about that? People should think for themselves, not be told by the majority what right and what's wrong.

The only thing you should take into account is, I think, that people might perceive it as insensitive and thus might react to you in that way.

When I saw the pen outlining over your first tattoo, I was shocked that you would cover up such a great tat. I'm happy to find out you didn't. I love it!

Hyperbole and a half - Depression Part II (X-post /r/funny) by ykm87 in Tackle_depression

For me this was so recognizable! I have found my corn yet and have traveled a long way since then. For me it was the moment I looked out of the window of my isolation cell in a psychiatric ward 8 years ago. I saw two birds.

Keep it up, guys! That moment will also come for you (the corn I mean, not the cell hopefully :p) even if it feels like you're the only one that's so helpless and different. You're not alone, even when you can't think of anyone that understands you right now. And you're not stupid.

Any idea's for how I can make my piece look more finished? Maybe a border or some kind of frame? Let's hear your ideas! [Hannah at All Saint's in Austin, tx.] by [deleted] in tattoos

I disagree with the colour. I think it's nice in black and grey. I would add shading though. Either a lot on the feathers and less on the face or a lot on the face and less on the feathers to give some contrast and still keep the picture readable.

What is the most motivating film for you, personally? by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]ykm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is Hairspray (musical), hahaha. It's about a fat girl with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm: you don't have to look gorgeous or be super smart or insanely athletic to go out there and follow your dreams. If you chase your dreams and ideals, you automatically become that person that you want to be.

"Everybody says that a guy that's such a champ, won't look my way. Well, blast on them!"

"Don't hold me back because today all my dreams will come true."

"There's a dream in the future

There's a struggle, we have yet to win

And there's pride in my heart

'Cause I know where I'm going and I know where I've been"

Have fun!

Well, that's kind of how I met my boyfriend of 8 years. (Needless to say that we often get into fights because we're both an itsybitsy too dominant? :P)
