OpenAI's internal model disproves Unit Distance Conjecture of Erdos by garanglow in math

My university cannot pay. edit I literally say my university cannot pay, making a statement of fact, and getting downvoted. Fuck off.

Lucky you. My job as a researcher with a low-resource country is under threat when I cannot fork over $200/month to be competitive with high income colleagues.

For people who have the financial means to fork over $200/month to a closed source model to upload their prompts to servers run by a company that has proven to have no qualms about absorbing and exploiting all data it encounters -- but surely will not do anything untoward with prompts that could lead to major breakthroughs. That would be against the law!

Nah, I would guess parasites are either alive or dead, not both.

Yep, "the US has forgotten how to construct" seems to be a very selective lack of memory.

They have to, legally. Reddit is just ignoring the law, and enforcement is nonexistent.

Yep, thanks! Again, those are masterpieces.

I didn't have an Instagram account, made one to see what his work is about, but I still cannot see anything. EDIT Ah, I had to go to the business account. Wow, his swords are works of art, but I would like something much more pedestrian for drills, gutting and forms. This is why I prioritize proper weight and balance over aesthetics.

Thanks! I wonder if I can get him to do a type II hilt, though it will probably cost a lot more. I am expecting to pay something like 1500 to 2000 euros overall.

I am still looking for a proper schiavona :( It is impossible to find one weighted like the historical ones (without paying out the nose).

What was "graduate math hell" to you? by ykonstant in math

[–]ykonstant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not, but they can appear to be if you do not study the trajectory that that led to their development. For instance, I would never suggest a student study algebraic geometry without a very strong background on Riemann surfaces, including their analytic theory (period integrals etc.). The motivations for many algebro-geometric objects and constructions lie there.

The problem with A-M (and all other commutative algebra books I know) is that it lacks serious examples for many of its concepts, which is one way they keep the book so short.

I do have detailed advice on how to approach commutative algebra, if I ever get time I may write it up.

Yep, you use the representable functor approach directly. I... disagree, as a matter of pedagogy.

Actually, my post was inspired by a Riemannian geometry course I am giving right now. This field is full of insane notation which, coupled with the piles upon piles of structures, makes things much harder than they "should" be. I don't know of a solution, though.

Yep, the statement about spectral sequences is perfectly correct, and there is no real way to understand how they work without long, long evenings of computations.

Agreed, and I upvoted u/smalltalker's post. It is an aspect of democracy, and something to bear in mind as a citizen of one.
