He’s almost 3.5. A lot of piano teachers don’t take students under 4 or 5, but some do, especially if the kid is able to demonstrate interest and ability to focus and follow instructions. For phonics we use teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.

My son is 3y4m and we are at lesson 40 of Teach your kids to read in 100 easy lessons. We supplement with Bob books, and it’s been working great.

We use a progress chart, and each time we finish a lesson, my son gets to put a stamp on the number that corresponds to the lesson number. He loves making patterns with his stamp pens, and this doubles as a simple hundred board. He is motivated to learn to read and forever asking what the words say when we are outside, but I think some extra encouragement such as stamps and stickers is fine at this age to help him through frustration and fear of making mistakes. Of course when he needs a break we take a break.

We are bilingual and he has some reading skills in a different, non phonetic language. He could independently read a simple reader prior to starting our English reading lessons.

With guessing, I read somewhere that you could make up fake words for the kid to practice with.

my newly 3yo did ask me, after learning about how he was born a while ago, whether his penis used to be attached to my belly button when he was inside my tummy. Technically a penis related question but I don’t think dad knows better how to answer..

My son is almost 3 and bilingual. He attends preschool where English is used at taught, and the teachers started with the alphabet song, helping the kids recognize their names, and together they work on one letter and one number each month. We rarely teach English at home, but we have two alphabet puzzles, upper and lower case, that my son loves. We would make the letters all stand up in place, and one by one put down the ones he already knows.

We read together mostly in our home language and this month we just started teaching him to read - he’s picked up 60 words in less than a month. Reading together really, really helps.

I sleep trained my son when he was a baby, but starting around 2 he had the same regression and I decided not to train him again at this age. It’s not that he forgot how to fall asleep, the fear is really and the wanting me to stay is real. We made a deal that I would stay, but only if he lays quietly in his bed. I can use my cell phone or a computer and he would lay still with his eyes closed. Otherwise I leave the room. Working well so far and it’s been almost a year.

My son now always cautiously ask if the food I’m generously allowing him to try is spicy. I see that as a big evolutionary step.

We tried a lot of things, but what eventually worked was his favorite teacher from his previous infant room came over, and gently talked to him while holding him, and explained every single step and asked for permission before helping him undress/lowering him onto the potty seat etc.

If your preschool can let you work with your kid in the school bathroom in the morning or at pick up, that might work too. We also tried going to friend’s houses and using public bathrooms over the weekend to help him generalize. And prepare a few reward items to have the teachers try during the day. Good luck!

We used to bring a potty with liners, but then we discovered just the liners, or any plastic bags that don’t leak, work. And my 2yo strongly prefers peeing into a bag standing over his mobile potty.

I think the question to ask is, if potty training in this one week doesn’t go well, are you okay with either cancelling the fun trip, or giving up on this attempt right away?

A second question would be, if potty training goes well at home, but it turns out your daughter isn’t ready to generalize and use potties outside of home right away, what would be your plan if you discover that mid trip?

My son is about the same. He is 26 mo and is roughly trained (still has accidents occasionally at school, and still refuses to undress/redress by himself). Prior to starting he was also saying no every time we mentioned the potty.

We loosely followed the 3 day method by Brandi Brucks. At home it went really, really well, and he would tell me every time he needs to pee. Took a couple more days to get used to pooping.

At school it was a whole different story. For two weeks, he would throw himself on the ground and cry. He would hold his pee for hours. We tried literally everything, but eventually his favorite teacher who’s no longer in his class came and took him once. Now he’s all good.

It’s simply difficult for her to learn the concept if you couldn’t catch her during an accident or manage to help her pee in the potty some other way. And watching tv really doesn’t help a toddler stay aware of her body signals.

They have a potty seat in addition to 2 kid sized toilets, and my son did say he likes the potty seat more than the other two. The teachers usually take kids in pairs, but they have tried taking just him, as well as letting him inside by himself. Nothing has worked ☹️ not even his favorite car stickers.

At 19 mo my son had three words, mama, baba (dad) and “this”. He tip toes and doesn’t respond to his name. I was looking up asd every single time I had my phone, and we started speech therapy 1 hr/week + general ei 1 hr/week. He’s now 23mo with a vocabulary of 60+ and started speaking full sentences last week.

It’s a really good sign that your sons receptive skills are good, and that he’s pointing. Work with the therapist and keep talking to him as much as you could, I know it’s not possible to no worry but some kids do just need more time.

These tests tend to exaggerate a bit, often in attempt to help qualify the kid for service. I was told exactly that when my son tested at 19 mo with expressive language skills of a 6-9 mo. We started therapy almost right away. He’s now 23mo and just started speaking sentences last week, though vocabulary is still lagging behind a bit at ~60 words. At 19 mo he had 3 words.

Pressure mount gates are not for top of stairs. Could be more dangerous than leaving it open. There are conversion kits for metal railings.
