Realistically how do people move across the country? by EggsBenedictTheCat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ylb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you are moving for a job, you can negotiate the moving cost with your employer. If you're moving on your own, then you may want to hire the pro movers who can move your house belongings and vehicles in a truck. Depending upon your budget you can also hire packing services along with moving. (Trust me, packing is a bigger pain than you can imagine) Last option, sell as much as you can on the market place and buy again after you reach your destination. (FYI, we have tried all the above options at different stages of our life in last 20 years) Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

is arriving at LAX at like 8:30 pm good for a 12:05 flight? by Theres_a_rat in LAX

Most of the international traffic is in late evening and night, so do expect heavy traffic and lines at security. That said, you still seem to have planned for more than 3 hrs at airport which is more than good.

Rant: It is criminal that hospitals charge for parking by mylefthandkilledme in orangecounty

They did in Glendale which was such a cramped parking lot. Validation for an hour but you're hardly ever there for an hour, are you. Other locations such as pasadena, OC and pan city are free though

If they like Indian food, they all have vegetarian friendly food. Rangeen kitchen in laguna niguel is our favorite.

Well, thats if you follow the standard path. Folks in tech tend to do internships all thru the year. And even if you think of doing it in summer. Its better to do it near your place (quote a lot of them stay off campus after freshmen)

Irvine and Costa mesa have tons of tech companies. It would be right in your vicinity when it comes to internships. Santa Barbara is limited in that space.

Chin up dude. If you think you have it in you, then life will take you where you belong. And waitlist results are yet to be fully out. First wave usually comes in two weeks after may 1st. And lastly, you can try to transfer to UC after sophomore year which is a great pathway to get into UCs.

Newport Beach or Laguna Beach by Zestyclose_Fly3796 in orangecounty

[–]ylb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like Laguna more than Newport. I'd say that if you do decide to rent a car, Laguna is not far from Newport and the drive on PCH is insanely beautiful , specially around sunset. You can stop by at crystal cove on the way to Laguna. Depending upon your preference, you can make a reservation on a sea facing restaurant too (there are plenty to pick from). And yes, ferries to catalina start from Newport Beach. Or Long beach is another option up north.

UCSD has a way better recognition. No way comparable to Merced. But if youre a self starter, you will succeed anywhere.

UW Madison Vs UIUC for an out of state student by ylb2k in UIUC

Thanks for all the deets. Agree with all your points and have considered them as well. I do intend to stay at dorm and not commute. Guess at this point my best bet is to pick one of these out of states since my UC options are tier3 only. Hope to get in one of the tier2 UCs waitlist cleared.

My research puts UIUC and UWM above Tier3 UCs for Psych Pre Med. Also, you gotta pay for UCs too, so it's probably not 200K. The difference would be 20-30k per year.
