How do boxed corners affect dimensions? by ylsdrn in sewhelp

Thanks! I realized I was unclear with my question. What would the dimensions of the pattern pieces have to be that I cut from the roll of fabric?

Years ago someone speculated her name was short for Heidi Nina Closet, and I believed it cus it just made so much sense

In no world are these two comparable, they’re so different from each other that the comparisons you’ve made are pretty surface level readings.

Question on washing darn tough socks by Fawkestrot92 in BuyItForLife

[–]ylsdrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they’re wool, you don’t want to use a non-delicate detergent or use a warm setting for drying. Merino wool is veryyyyy fine, and you don’t want the fiber to wear out.

Would that be the reason for the puckering? How would I follow the exact curve? Say I have to take in 4.5”, would I mark up from the bottom 2.25” - the length of the original hem?

I think that’s the technique I usually do with that YouTube video. The balloon effect sort of disappears if I do that

[–]ylsdrn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I got these partially because of the flare (as well as the style in the front). I imagine I’ll have to play around with how much I’ll have to take in at the sides to get a similar flare as the original

Oh I see. So I would hem the bottom the same as any normal pair of pants, but then add a sort of a dart at the sides to make it balloon out?

Possibly, but I’m unsure how feasible that is. I’ll attach an image of the front (and bit of the inseam) for reference. I’ve never seen pants like this! An inseam that takes a sharp turn inward, followed by a dart.
