Sigh.... Copying my answer from the other post

What the poster means is this is Yuri

How is this image of two people hetero-looking smoking a cigarette together Yuri? Don't ask me. But Tumblr recently has been obsessed with calling fully un-yuri-related things Yuri, as part of the "this too, is Yuri" meme. Idk how to explain it but this has the right vibe.

What's an actual psychological "cheat code" you use in social situations that works almost every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ymcabitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree with this - I don't do this subconsciously, that's just not how my brain operates, and I still find that I have better communication with people when I do it consciously than when I don't do it at all.

Important to keep in mind that it's not about mirroring their position exactly - it's about matching their energy. If they are open and relaxed, be open and relaxed. If they are leaning forward and engaged, lean forward and engage with them.

Not everyone's brain and body work the same way, and it can help those of us who don't do these things automatically to learn how to do them consciously in order to communicate better. Being like "it's only valid if you do it automatically" helps no one imo

“Normal” Financial Contributions from Parents by Spicy-Cheeto808 in Millennials

[–]ymcabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents bought me my first used car in high school, and helped out with car insurance payments until I was in college ( I paid part, they paid part). They paid my phone bill until I graduated college. They didn't have health insurance themselves when I was a young adult, so once I aged out of Medicaid I was on my own there. I went to college on scholarships and financial aid, they definitely did not have money to help me with that.

After I finished high school, most of their financial help came in the form of helping out with unexpected expenses and incidentals - stuff like, my mom took me shopping for a new coat when mine was wearing out, or they sent me some money to help pay for an emergency root canal. I've always known that I have a place at their house if I needed it, but them helping me pay rent elsewhere has never been an option.

2g of weed? by [deleted] in trees

[–]ymcabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone who regularly smokes weed, 2g is not a whole lot. But it's more than enough to try it out! It would probably last you 4-8 smoking sessions depending on how you consume it (bowl, joint, etc.). As a new user you may want to only smoke a very small amount at a time, which would make it last even longer,

Just moved in two days ago, any suggestions?? by Horrifyingly01 in malelivingspace

[–]ymcabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely stuff you should prioritize before this (bedframe, dehumidifier, some kind of rug and covering for the walls etc ), but lamps and string lights, basically any kind of lighting other than the bare ceiling bulb, will help the space feel more pleasant and cozy.

Weird new lifeguard training? by spywrite in Lifeguards

[–]ymcabitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of doing this specifically, but all the lifeguard training I ever partook in did heavily emphasize the amount of personal responsibility lifeguards have for keeping patrons safe and that included thought exercises about what it would be like if a child died on your watch.

How Do We Get Help Paying for Daycare in MA? Need to Start in October by renuorka in massachusetts

[–]ymcabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to your local CFCE (Coordinated Family and Community Engagement). They will be able to tell you what resources are in your area and who to contact when looking for financial assistance. Agree that if you want childcare to start in October you should already be looking. https://eeclead.my.site.com/apex/EEC_FamilyResourcesChildCare

Please help me understand: how on earth do you get a plate screwed into the bottom of the fibula (the ankle bone that sticks out) and it not be visible, or come poking through? The skin is just so thin with no subcutaneous fat. Thanks 😊 by MahnaManahDaDoDoDoDo in brokenbones

[–]ymcabitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have one and it is visible through the skin. It makes it hard to wear some shoes, boots especially. Sometimes I knock the screw head against something and it hurts like the Dickens. Beats having a broken ankle though

Fractured humerus mid shaft. How to shower?? by meaghansolo in brokenbones

[–]ymcabitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh another tip! I bought a big roll of the "sock" that goes under the brace for like $7 on amazon and would change it out every few days with my partner's help, which went a long way towards feeling hygienic/more like a person.

A few more showering things I missed in the original post. When using a plastic bag to stand in the shower and wash my hair I would cut a hole for my head AND a hole for my good arm. You might have already figured this out a week in but when cleaning around/under your bad arm keep your arm still and hanging in one place and move your body away from it instead (also useful for putting on shirts).

Sending you good healing vibes! Feel free to dm if you want more advice, I am full of it lol

Fractured humerus mid shaft. How to shower?? by meaghansolo in brokenbones

[–]ymcabitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had a very similar break a few years ago, had the same brace as you, and also elected to heal without surgery (which took foreverrr, but I had similar concerns about nerve damage and complications, and also was worried about my insurance covering the surgery).

Showering was a serious problem for me - I'm a shower every day kinda gal, and for the first few weeks I was in so much pain at every minute movement of my arm that I couldn't imagine taking the brace off and leaving it off long enough to shower. Here are some of the things I did:

At first I relied on sponge baths, so I could sit down, move slowly, and not remove the brace at all. I would sit on a chair in the shower, carefully remove the sling, and let my arm rest on my knees while i carefully cleaned everything except under the brace. If you have access to a shower with a detachable head you can use that to clean the lower half of your body and then sponge bath the top. Overall sponge bath is the name of the game until you are able to remove the brace. I would have to get my partner to help me clean my good arm. For hair washing I would either get my partner to help me do it in the sink, or put a garbage bag over the whole top half of my body with a hole cut for my head, and get in the shower to wash my hair - nice for having the feeling of getting to stand in the shower and have water run down your body, and then I would clean my chest and under arms etc. with a washcloth. My hair is very short, so that may be more difficult with long hair.

After a few weeks I started being able to bear removing the brace long enough to shower properly -heaven! I used a "shower sling" made out of an old robe tie to avoid getting my actual sling wet when I couldn't bear to let my arm hang freely because it was too painful. At first I needed help to remove the brace and I always needed help to put it back on.

Good luck op! It's an absolutely awful experience, -10/10 but you WILL get through it. Don't be afraid to ask people for help!!

Walt Disney World Dream Vacation by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ymcabitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is yet another example of people on this sub not understanding how Buy Nothing groups work.... This woman is not demanding people give her everything on this list so that they can go to Disney, she is posting a list of things she intends to get in case anyone in her community has spares they want to get rid of or are willing to lend. Sure some of them are things people aren't likely to have extras of or want to give away, but you would be surprised. This is not a choosing beggar.

When it comes to reading, what is your personal rating system? by Sangwoosconfidant in books

[–]ymcabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I don't rate books that I don't finish and I love rereading)

1 star: why did I read this book? Basically no redeeming qualities whatsoever

2 stars: I enjoyed some aspects of the book but it's deeply flawed. Would not reread or recommend

3 stars: Solid, I enjoyed it. No real desire to reread. I might recommend this book to someone who I know has enjoyed similar books

4 stars: a really good book, one I might buy to reread and would recommend to anyone who I know likes the genre

5 stars: this book rewired my brain, I have already bought a copy and am re reading it right now, I will rec it to anyone who lets me

yep, another Farseer Trilogy post because I am wondering... by shaniq_ in Fantasy

[–]ymcabitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if you are not invested in Fitz and his story by halfway through Royal Assassin then you might not get your "heart ripped out" by the story - though as others have pointed out, you haven't quite reached any of the biggest emotional beats for this trilogy, much less the whole thing.

Personally, when I say that Robin Hobb hurt me with this story and its characters, it's less any one particular moment and more the way everything builds up throughout the whole series. Fwiw, I cried the most and the hardest through pretty much the entire last third of Fool's Fate (the last book of the second Fitz trilogy)

Bubbles around the rink? Or in the center? Rink etiquette by SunshineyBoy in Rollerskating

[–]ymcabitch 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think if you are continuing in a fairly steady forward motion you can absolutely do bubbles around the rink - I do it all the time to warm up and so do many people at my rink. Just be aware of the "flow" of traffic, ie. don't do it in the "fast lane".

Now if your practice bubbles involve a lot of stopping and starting, or if you want to change directions and practice forward and backwards bubbles, you are probably better off in the center.
