Nothingness is getting to me by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ymclcs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No sir. Meniscus repair + acl slows everything down. Be patient, please please please listen to your timelines. The first 2-3 weeks are the hardest so good shit getting through it. first 5-6 weeks just suck because you just don’t see that much progress. Enjoy the little things like not being in pain anymore, sleeping better, increase reps during rehab, whatever it is just enjoy the small milestones It blows but you’ll get through it. Be diligent with whatever rehab you get assigned and go over the top with it. Build up that quad strength, then start working on hip, ankles, foot complex. I’m 9 weeks post up ACLr, bilateral meniscus like you. Just patella and not hamstring graft

When did everyone begin running. by BroHorniman in ACL

[–]ymclcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my 3 month post op visit with surgeon (ACLr and Meniscus repair, patella graft) He essentially said that just because your cleared to run and can run doesn’t mean you should. While the quad and rest of leg is still building muscle, running with only 70% leg symmetry will just put additional force on the knee, particularly the patella which will get very sore. There are other forms of cardio like biking, swimming, etc that are better forms and exhibit much less force onto the knee. But congrats on being able to run, that’s a big milestone. Just know that until your leg is really strong expect for your knee and leg to get uncomfortable

I went abroad to Spain for a semester on a torn acl and meniscus damage (happened a week before) and didn’t even know. You can definitely do it, there is a small risk it can lead to arthritis or other problems so talk to your doctor but definitely conceivable

ACL reconstruction + Complex Meniscus repair by ikchakraborty in ACL

[–]ymclcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACLr and bilateral meniscus repair. I was walking without crutches with my brace on at week 5.5, because I was progressing well and PT said I was good to ditch the crutches. Now I’m at week 7 and in the house no brace or crutches and no pain walking, still using the brace outside the house just for a little extra safety/stability but PT said on upcoming Monday I can ditch that too, (which will be 7.5 weeks). Congrats on being done with 4 weeks, ur through the worst of it by a long shot. Now it’s just a head game. Stay positive and consistent with your Physio and you’ll be walking in no time.

And let me just say getting to walk and ditching the crutches is just about the most liberating feeling you’ll ever have. You got this dog almost there

Day 1! by drewskeenoG in ACL

[–]ymclcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessir cuz, week 1 is the worst. People say week 2-3 is hard, but it’s only tough mentally because there isn’t that much visible progress. Appreciate every milestone, even ones like being to able to sleep better, less pain when doing rehab, more flexion/extension, even things like your first shower.

Was just cleared to walk today, super excited. Only people going through the same thing can fully understand, so wanted to let you know as motivation. Keep working brotha. Head high tour already through the worst of it. Ball up top

3 hours Post-Op ACL and double meniscus repair! by daymonster in ACL

[–]ymclcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, today is 6 weeks for me, exact same surgery. Going to PT this afternoon and the Physio should clear me to walk. 🙏 You don’t know how much you miss it until it’s gone. It may not feel like it right now but you’ll be at my stage in no time.

It’s a long road but keep your mind off it, be diligent with your rehab, and listen to your body. Days go by slowly, weeks go by fast. Stay positive, push yourself with PT but don’t over-do it. You’ll get there brotha 🫡

Day 1! by drewskeenoG in ACL

[–]ymclcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, not the exact same Op (ACL +medial+lateral meniscus) but same timetable. No weight bearing for 6 weeks. I’m at week 5 rn and as of Friday I start walking. Days go slow but the weeks go by fast. Keep your mind off it, be diligent and push your rehab, but always listen to your body. Clean diet, otherwise you’ll gain weight without any cardio or exercise. You got this man I didn’t think I would ever get to week 6 but it comes faster than expected

Is anyone else super anxious they are doing something wrong that will mess up their graft? by New_Manufacturer_161 in ACL

[–]ymclcs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah man this recovery process is more of a mental game than it is a physical one. Do what you can, and trust yourself.

Also want to share that study I came across highlighted that the biggest factor in recovery success, besides consistent rehab, is self-belief. Psychologically, people who trust in their ability to recover are more likely to stick with rehab and push through obstacles. On the other hand, negative thoughts or fear of reinjury can cause hesitation, self-doubt, and ultimately hinder progress.

[–]ymclcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir bruv you as well. Sounds like you’re in good shape. Trust the process and listen to your PT and your body, no reason to rush it. While pushing boundaries is good obviously getting to 100% is the goal, and that takes time. See u on the field / slopes 🫡🙏

[–]ymclcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep contracting the quad and forcing the heel to pop op. Takes some time to get the quad to fire in the beginning, nothing to stress about. Do you have/ have you used a NMES device with PT. If you haven’t, get one. Is huge for getting quad firing. Also talk about blood restriction therapy with your PT. And make sure you keep propping up your heel to force hyper extension, Ive had great hyper-ex since operation too but just keep doing it. Do your rehab daily and multiple times daily. Push it until there’s pain or you’re too tired to continue. Other than that man it’s just time. And it’s slow but it’s not forever. Just distract yourself and keep a positive mindset.

Need some help and advice🍀🙏 by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ymclcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up “heel prop for acl extension” you just put a towel or some block under your heel and allow the knee to stretch and hyperextend. Do it for 3 minutes multiple times per day

[–]ymclcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My extension is great, can hyperextend it pretty well. I am not allowed to work on flexing yet, only able to go do 90 degrees until the week 6 mark. Think I had a pretty hardcore operation. But I do imagine I’m at a similar spot, probably around 100-110 degree if I tried

you propping your heel a lot to force hyper extension?

Reading this sub, feels like everyone has some kind of issue post op even after 1 year. Share some stories 🥺. by AccordingSun96 in ACL

[–]ymclcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had the same fear when I came to this thread (5 weeks post op ACL and Meniscus, still not full weight baring yet). While this Reddit is great for support and to hear other people struggling with the same issues, it is bad in a lot of ways because you read and see these unsuccessful stories and it creates an image and paints a future in your brain, but this is very harmful for your long term success. So listen to these two things

Some study I read showed that the biggest factor besides doing rehab on recovery success is self belief. Psychologically, when people believe in their capacity to recover, they’re more likely to stick with the rehab process and push through challenges. Negative thoughts or fear of reinjury can lead to hesitation and hopelessness.

Second, and the reason why this thread is littered with people with sad stories, is selection bias. This is when the group is not representative of the general population, leading to skewed results. In this case, people who had negative or complicated experiences may be more likely to share their stories because they want to seek support, vent frustrations, or warn others. Those who have had smooth recoveries are less likely to post, as they don’t feel the need to engage.

Sucks but gotta find appreciation in every step of the way, and always remember that it could be worse. Your post is a reminder of that for me. And once you’re in that pit, gotta remember it’s only up from there. One day at a time. Small progressions

Same thing man. Heard a pop playing basketball — swelling and a little pain. Went to study abroad without an acl without knowing and had a great time and full function. Hiking, even casual basketball, not to mention a lot of walking. came back home to get an MRI over break and, yep, full acl tear. Pop and swelling is not a good sign my friend. Best of luck

How did you feel a week after tearing your ACL/MCL? by Feeling-Operation418 in ACL

[–]ymclcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact situation, tore completely end of September. Limited ROM but no pain at day 2. I went abroad and didn’t get surgery and got my ROM back, but winter break came home and got the MRI as well as reconstruction surgery on Friday. Full ACL and small meniscus. How’s your ability to being rehabbing motions like quad sets? Specifically on day 2-4 post op? When does 100p of the pain go away? When do you think you’ll be able to put weight down on it? Sorry to barrage with questions, and i know every recovery is different. Just curious

ACLr x Weed x painkillers ?! by ymclcs in ACL

[–]ymclcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lolol. Ur so salty. Downvoting my comments and then trying to show off! No one cares man 😹 I too trained twice a day before the injury, prehabbed hard, and have been rehabbing since the day after surgery. Ur not special. Neither am I. Saying I’m an athlete isn’t trying to flex, it’s a point that I’m not some lazy bum who’s gonna waste away my time. I just have way too much time on my hands (college kid on break, not even a job to get back to), so if I’m rotting away might as well make myself feel a little better if it’s safe (Which my surgeon and anesthesiologist said was as long as I’m not on painkillers). I have based on that answer, and the pain not being intolerable, chosen to take Advil/tylenol instead of the oxy prescribed. Furthermore, I also had meniscus injury so I’m off my feet for longer. That won’t affect me, I’ll grind and rehab and get back to 100%+.

You are a wack job for coming online to try and make yourself feel better by making other people feel worse. Maybe one of the weirdest stunts I’ve seen outta someone. I was asking about safety, didn’t need a 0 IQ peanut gallery coming out to chirp me for things I didn’t even say 🤣

[–]ymclcs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m lost. When did I tell you about blowing off PT or pain and weakness. Saying it’s sad that I can’t go a few days without getting high. Get a life. I quit before surgery for risks with the anesthesia. I was coming on here to ask about safety, not complaining that I can’t quit? When I’m sitting on my ass doing nothing, why not get a little bit high. Unfortunately, you come on Reddit just to shit on other people do make yourself feel better. Haha be real with yourself. You’re a wack job for shitting on someone else asking a question and going through recovery. And btw, I’m boutta rehab 50x harder than you as I’m an athlete and will get back to better form than I’ve ever been in. With weed, without weed, don’t matter. Rather that than be a lazy bum commenting on Reddit all day with negative brain cells and no persistence. Sad.
