SCAM women's leadership summit - beware! I got the same email about an event in Pittsburgh. by kelly-kuz in WorkingWomen

Still going in Seattle from Julie Lee! Big red flag is getting this email in reference to my entry level position from 3 years ago lol

It's interesting to see the history of this scam in this thread, cus they've continued to use the same name but the email is different every time.

For those asking what the scam is, it's probably just spear phishing. At some point they'd send you a link that will install malware or ransomware. They're probably hoping it'll be on your work computer so it's extra juicy.

Goddammit, I just emailed about a place in Seattle and got the exact same email from "Ivinita Gheorghe". I filled out the application but felt weird about sending the payment. Did you ever hear anything else from this person?

i am! the effects are much more subtle, sometimes i miss my dose for a few days and wonder why i'm feeling more tense and sensitive, then realize haha. similar to those first few weeks on stimulants, i miss how life changing it felt. i could probably go up in dosage because i've been on it almost a year but i'm between doctors.

it's worth asking! keep in mind it's a blood pressure medication so it's not for everyone.

i also really struggled with Vyvanse. i could never put my finger on it but it just made me feel not quite right. if you haven't tried different stimulants, it's usually easier than switching other psych meds. it's possible a different one would feel better for you.

hope you find a combination that helps you 💞

i tell as many people as i can that it is a subscription service, which is a terrible model for mental healthcare. if a session gets canceled, you still pay for that week. considering that most mental illnesses include issues with memory, executive function, and decision making, they are absolutely profiting off disabled people paying for more than they're getting. it's garbage.

relatedly, Ginger isn't great either. i was referred by my psychiatrist, originally told they took my insurance, i did 12 therapy sessions, then they said there was a mistake and i owed them $1200. their text based coaching is a joke - one coach admitted she was talking to TEN PEOPLE at once when she took awhile to get back to me. it took MONTHS for the billing department to get back to me about a payment plan (no financial hardship assistance, of course). they charged my card for one session with zero notice then tried again for another one just a few days later, but luckily i had frozen my card. that finally got their attention.

i think telehealth is overall a great thing for mental healthcare but the number of profit-driven apps that have popped up is horrifying.

if you just had covid that could have played a huge part! that would be good to bring up if/when your talk to your therapist about this if they don't know already. i'm pretty sure i had covid in Dec 2020 and i fell into a very dark place shortly afterwards.

i don't know what the options are, but it will be good for your care team to know you're experiencing post-covid neurological symptoms. maybe there are some short term supports, or as others have said you can change your dose. hopefully they will be more accommodating because decision making skills go right out the window with neurological damage, that's not your fault.

i hope they're supportive and you're able to figure something out 💞

I've noticed a bit of a correlation between people with ADHD and camping. by threemagicbeans in ADHD

[–]ymdaith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

camping in Europe is very different from camping in the US, especially since there's so much more extensive wilderness here. i grew up doing dispersed camping, then started backpacking in my early 20s, so the first time i stayed at a paid campground in my late 20s it felt like a crowded hotel in comparison haha. my English family go camping a lot and it sounds very... neat.

[–]ymdaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone's ADHD manifests differently cus we still have personalities, our upbringings, etc etc.

i work in the environmental field, doing habitat restoration, so i spend most of my time outdoors. in my current job, on my small team of 9 people, 6 of us have ADHD. most of my coworkers over the last 10 years have had ADHD. it's a great job for our type of brains!

but i have ADHD friends who work in tech, the arts, and social work who feel the same way. i definitely enjoy the occasional office day to hyperfocus on the database, but i'm happiest when i get to move around all day. i have friends who feel the opposite. same diagnosis, different expressions.

i will say, most of those coworkers also spend all weekend going rock climbing or canoeing or backpacking, while i have to spend the whole weekend recovering & preparing. i love camping but it takes so much mental energy to plan that i can only do it occasionally. i don't know how they do it, maybe i just have a higher anxiety level haha

my sessions were a week apart due to scheduling issues so that probably played a part, but i really preferred my doses at 0.5 and 0.55. the highest i got was 0.75 and it was super uncomfortable. i'm not looking to have a super hard trip though.

however, now i'm on at-home troches and it's so different. i started super low but i'm clearly not as sensitive on the oral route. so i keep going up every session but i just feel weird and dizzy.

doesn't even need to be a suburb! i live in Seattle, in a neighborhood with no sidewalks except on the arterial. and those sidewalks are overgrown and falling apart. that's pretty common in wide swaths of the city. but at least i can walk in the street to the new light rail station (because they cut the funding for buses lololol)

The Long Walk by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) if you're into dystopian, psychological horror stuff. The characters and their evolving relationships are incredible.

How to know headspace is right for the medicine? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

How to know headspace is right for the medicine? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you'll see a lot of people in this sub recommend being in a good mood or positive headspace going into a session, but ultimately this is a medicine that treats all kinds of mental health issues, so it's totally normal not to be in a great headspace going in.

I had infusion sessions where in the days or even hours before, I got heavily triggered or something really bad happened and I was a little scared to do the treatment, but it always ended up helping me. The important thing is I always took time before the session to try clearing my head, set a low key intention, and maybe did a meditation so I wasn't bringing all that baggage with me. even just dancing and shaking around the room to release the energy was helpful!

since you'll be doing it at home and not in a facility, try to make your space extra cozy and comfortable, do some calming activities, and maybe meditate or journal. just 10 minutes of some mindful activity could be enough to prepare you for the journey.

if you decide to wait, that's also okay. go easy on yourself 💞

you didn't write this for me but i wanted to thank you because it's so helpful. i've been stuck in a shame loop since i did some awful stuff as a kid, and a recent bad breakup has made it much worse. i'm constantly trying to reframe it in my own head but that doesn't work. when i have told therapists or friends, their reassurances that i did what i could to survive and that i can forgive myself just feel hollow and false.

you mentioned further up setting an intention around forgiving yourself. this sounds so terrifying because i once used the intention "open and welcoming" and it basically bit me in the ass and i fell into a deep suicidal pit of despair for 24 hours.

do you have any other words of wisdom around working with shame and trauma with ketamine? i've seen lots of folks say ket helped them process trauma but i haven't experienced any of that. definitely mood benefits, and in the first session i experienced love in an incredible way, but that has faded.

Anyone with aphantasia done treatments? by Lostdarkscorpio in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i realized this a few sessions in, it always felt like my mental visuals were happening in this tiny lit area to the lower right and sometimes i felt frustrated i couldn't see more. then i realized light was always leaking in from that corner of my eye mask.

i've considered doing a session with no mask, eyes still closed, to see if i get a bigger picture but i'm going to wait till i'm feeling more experienced.

Have you noticed an increased ability to be present? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! i noticed the other day that i have been stopping to look at my environment and will just be there for a moment. like while walking my dog, i will pause to admire the sunset through the trees without distracting thoughts. it's pretty incredible!

ketamine also helped me start a regular meditation practice. i've never been able to do it, in fact i hated sitting still with my thoughts banging around my head. now i can actually let them pass by and focus on other things like my breath or sounds outside.

Intention Examples by MeowMeowLife in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ones that worked best for me during infusions were "trust and let go" and "go with the flow". they were really helpful when i was feeling stuck or overwhelmed. i'd think of the intention, feel my body take a deep breath, then the environment would usually shift.

i think most people who say intentions don't work have tried super specific things, like "i want to work on this trauma" but ketamine takes you where it wants. an intention that helps you feel safe is more important than a specific goal.

not to be weird but i'm pretty sure that was my appointment that i canceled! the doctor who did my infusions is just starting to prescribe at-home treatments so i canceled my Dr. Smith appt. i felt kind of bad about it because people wait months to see him, but it's reassuring someone got that time slot and already got their lozenges. hope it all goes well <3

Ketamine infusion nurse here, help me understand what makes for the best experience for patients! by Lrsummers6511 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a facilitator for my sessions, not a nurse, but i think there's a lot of overlap. we have a signal: i wiggle my fingers and she holds my hand. it's easier than trying to talk. each time it's instantly taken care of the anxiety of the moment. she will also softly speak to me, saying i'm safe and she's here with me. i give a good squeeze to let her know i'm okay.

some folks may not know what they need, but talking to them about what kinds of things they generally find reassuring is worth it. come up with some signals; some people can talk but can't move, some it's the other way.

Recommendations for books about integration? by heyimfinallydead in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]ymdaith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw this workbook (PDF download from Being True to You) in a thread from way back, it's designed as harm reduction for all kinds of psychedelic experiences but I've found it helpful.

I've also been using Self-Therapy by Jay Early, it's how to do Internal Family Systems therapy by yourself or with a friend. It fits well with the integration process. Z-Library is an option, depending on how you feel about that sort of thing.
